    No tethering

Dear Customer, please be informed that we do support Tethering/Mobile Hotspot. Personal hotspots and tethering are methods of sharing your mobile device’s data connection with another device, like a laptop or games console. So, if you’re in an area with no Wi-Fi, but you have a 4G or 3G signal, you can use that signal to go online. If you do this frequently, we recommend you monitor your data usage by dialling *137# and follow the instruction.

A personal hotspot lets you share your device’s data wirelessly, so it’s also called ‘wireless tethering’ or a ‘Wi-Fi hotspot. Tethering lets you do the same thing, using a USB cable instead of a wireless connection. Iphone users may need to enter personal hotspot’s APN: data.lycamobile.co.uk under the setting.

Mobile Data:> Mobile Data Network:> Personal Hotpot :> APN :>

Didn't realise they had moved to EE
    Resonate's avatar
Yeh but it’s not “real” EE. No access to certain bands and speed capped.

No mobile network operator can dictate what device you can and cannot use a SIM card in, in order to make calls and use data. They cannot prevent tethering either, there have been cases raised by ofcom against Three and Vodafone in the past in regards to blocking/charging extra for tethering. The way EE, for example, restrict tethering is by having a limit on the amount of devices connected via tethering/hotspot to a phone at any one time, which is unfortunately acceptable. So if Lyca are blocking, preventing or stating you cannot tether/hotspot, then they are in clear violation of the rules.

Spot on, used to be - trying to snatch as much profit as they can do! Not anymore as Ofcom is regulate such behaviour so it’s against Ofcom regulation to limit your service to handset only! (edited)

Worst company I have ever dealt with, dishonest, rubbish CS. Had to use PayPal resolution for refund
    johnnyflyer's avatar
I second this - I have used pretty much all of them over the years and Lyca are by far the worst. Clear breach of Ofcom regulations and they will just lie to you over and over again. I would stay well clear even if it was free.

Can it be used in router?
    dickybow's avatar
working fine in my router here

Has anyone on Lyca, on an iphone, suddenly lost the ability to use the personal hotspot feature? It's very weird, it's been completely disabled on my phone around the same time Lyca switched to EE!
    KodaBear's avatar
Just add the APN again to the hotspot settings and it will re-appear again after a reboot. It’s just the carrier profiles updating.

Did not expect much of Lyca, no matter on which network it is. Their SIM cards works on roaming basis so all services are on lowest priority here in the UK or abroad. iPhone shows only EE with Lyca sim and EE/Lycamobile on android. Clear sign of roaming. Tested speeds and no more than 47mbps right now on 5G. My EE work contract sim with unlimited speed goes to 971mbps same place.

Still better than when it was on O2 around me
That's the speed I'm getting as well
  8. Zameen's avatar
Does the move include WiFi calling now?
    kingsalad's avatar
Sadly that wifi calling is not available now
  9. illusion786's avatar
Does anyone know if there is a speed cap? Like the ee essential plans? (edited)
    femxiii's avatar
When I was with them last year, 5G was capped to 100Mbps. Not sure if that’s still true though.
  10. shef0072's avatar
    No Wi-Fi calling

    Fair use 650GB ?

Do they charge for roaming now as opposed to before.

Dear Customer, Please be informed that the bundle (Lyca Mobile 30 day SIM card for only £8.99 per month for first 3 months, £24.45 thereafter) includes EU roaming. So if you are using the sim card in any of the EU countries: (Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovenia, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden.) You can use the allowances of the bundle activated. However if you are using the sim card in any NON-EU countries, then you will be charged according to the PAY AS you go rates lycamobile.co.uk/en/…es/

tried calling and sent them an email and no reply. Be careful signing up for these crooks. The direct debit doesn't even appear on my regular payments. May need to call my bank to cancel
    KodaBear's avatar
There is no direct debit. You pay by CPA.

If you want to cancel you can just disable auto renewal on your Lyca account. Otherwise you can block the CPA with your bank. Most let you do this in the ‘subscriptions’ or similar area in online banking. Otherwise you’ll have to go to your local branch or call them up.

I would be interested to hear if Lyca do restrict Sims being used in routers or tablets for example and whether or not Lyca restrict tethering. The wording in the t&C's state that Lyca can disconnect you for using the sim in anything but a handset and using for tethering but I suspect this refers to high usage circumstances but still sounds odd.
Most mvnos for EE also have a fair use limit of around 600gb but not mentioned in the t&C's.

Really tempting for 5g EE as only EE have 5g in my immediate but seems too good to be true.
    alex_uk's avatar
Against Ofcom regulations as service will be limited in your case and nowadays you can use SIM cards not only in handset but tablets and routers - the rest is provider making up B S rules

Misleading heading as it states 8.99 for 3 months, but it's 8.99 per month for 3 months. Bit of a difference price wise

Had this mob try to charge me at a rate of around £7.2mil (MILLION) per month on 3G back in 2015 for "unlimited data" which was an outright vulgar lie, they even admitted this on the phone saying "unlimited data" was about 6.5gig and they were charging something like £5/second for data on 3G speeds after that. Ofcom of course got right onto it and started doing absolutely nothing immediately.

I'm not sure what the experience is for others but I've found that Lyca appear to have become even less attractive since the change over to EE, signal strength is almost zero in the house. I left Plusnet previously due to signal issues. If they used wifi calling this would not be an issue.

The 322 phone number never seems to have the option I need (you can't go back to the previous menu as far as I can tell either?) and I've heard of people having their service stopped without any upfront warning and then being told to wait for days on end (over a week in one case) to expect normal service to resume...which does not.

I received an email the other day saying my bundle was renewed, then an email 30 mins later saying it wasn't renewed but I still appear to have service? I've emailed them about that as the chat function was hopeless and no humans available in Manila today either, it appears?

I had a local outage last month, that affected Vodafone and EE locally, Lyca were oblivious to this and said "technical" would get back to me after 24 hours.
There was no update received from Lyca (I'm conditioned not to expect one anyway, these days) but some folks on the local Facebook page said they all had signal problems due to tower problems. (edited)

Don't get this, just because they use EE it's not all good. They have the lowest priority for everything, so you won't get EE data speeds and calls and texts will be low priority.
    boboxxb's avatar
Just got the SIM today using it on my tablet.

Speed test against my EE SIM, the data speeds are similar.

Is there any issues on the PAYG side? Topped up a PAYG SIM with £20 top up twice and both times it showed that the balance was £20 but was unable to purchase a bundle as balance was zero?

When will the offer expire . Any idea?
    KodaBear's avatar
According to the terms and conditions, the offer end data was 2 days ago. So it could get pulled at any time now.

4g is capped to 25mbps. 5g remains uncapped from what I can tell.
    KodaBear's avatar
If there is a 4G Speed cap it's definitely not 25Mb as I get over 80Mb on 4G With them. And 5G runs well into the hundreds of Mb.

I found Lyca Mobile data speeds good out and about, but at home I had no signal. There is also no WiFi calling so cancelled the auto renewal and jumped ship.

It was a shame Lyca moved to EE as I was very happy on O2. Signal was very good everywhere and speeds were good. EE is faster in some places but has no signal in others. If EE is good in your area I would recommend Lycamobile.

Just got me an Unlimited data Lyca esim for £9.99 for the first 6 months, plus £10 TopCashBack. I was reluctant as I didn’t know how well the esim would play alongside my current Lebara SIM… please to say the setup was good and straightforward and the two sims can be used concurrently…The Lebara sim as my main number, and using the Lyca sim for data. Speeds of 90 - 150mbps where I live which is more than adequate
  27. TechnoDonkey's avatar
Could I use a SIM like this in a 5G router? Three has been a bit hit and miss for me
    OhTheMajesty's avatar
I don’t see why not. I will be doing that myself in a month’s time. Make sure you check the coverage for where you live first on EE’s coverage checker
  28. OhTheMajesty's avatar
That’s the one I went for, plus £10 TopCashBack. Nothing to lose at that price
