they are the devil in disguise & a nightmare to leave

I completely understand that you should be able to request the PAC code by texting PAC to 65075 but lyca have a trick up their sleeve. They say f you. Where da f do you think you are going.... You're mine now baby. You ain't going anywhere boy!

Sorry, your PAC request has failed for the mobile number: 44789XXXXXX. Please try again later or contact customer service!

Go on try it again... I dare ya

    PAC 011082
Bundle Top up is not done

HAHA. You think I'm stupid, eh?

    Come on... Letsbe avenue

Sorry, your PAC request has failed for the mobile number: 44789XXXXXX. Please try again later or contact customer service!

Oh but wait. Geez let's talk to a lyca advisor. Eeeemmmmm sorry please call again between the hours of 9-4 Monday to Saturday. Oh don't call on a Sunday as that's when I take me nan to b&q. She's a great bricklayer - don't get her started on crazy paving. She loves a good hard hat our nan does.
Sorry went a bit of track there.

Yeah. Lyca is crap. You have been warned
    deleted531767's avatar
You forgot to mention that they also setup a payment authorisation on your card until 2035.

In a country that had 'real' financial regulations that protect consumers, this wouldn't happen.

Just left Lyca... Worst customer service in a sector known for awful customer service. No WiFi calling. No 4G/VoLTE calling for HD call quality. Missing access to certain EE frequencies. Signal strength worsened significantly for me in the places I used it since the (unannounced in advance) change from 02 network to EE. Still, good promotional price if MVNO EE works for you without access to the added features above. (edited)

    How did you eventually leave?

Given I’m on EE (without the technical equivalent of Smarty or Voxi) I purchased a Lyca £1.99 eSIM last night to try it out and to establish if it might be a workable alternative to EE (this being the only network available in the rural location where we live). Today I was sat in a central Manchester location with 5G on full bars on my EE SIM card, whereas the Lyca eSIM supposedly piggybacking was struggling to hold 1 bar signal on my iPhone. I’d think twice about this network. (edited)

Does anybody know, if it is possible to see, when does the 6 months promotional plan expire, within your Lyca's online account please?

For example, if I bought the SIM today (14/08/23), but does not insert into my phone until 10/09/23. Will the 6 months start counting from 10/09/23, or 14/08/23?

    ---

Having tried Lyca's CS chat, I agree with some users here. Once I connect to a live agent, I always get prompted with the error message "there seems to be a connectivity issue!", then shortly followed by the chat disconnecting.

It's 6 months from when you activate your sim/account. (edited)

Just porting out of Lyca now. Signal has got progressively worse in recent weeks, it can jump from three bars to no bars in an instant. All this morning no signal. Enough.
    winchman's avatar
Also leaving Lyca, either no signal or shows signal but data dead slow..

I have a similar story but it's Lebara.
Got the 30day contract based on raving reviews.... Checked with the area checker, states I have 5G and awesome 4G coverage... So, ordered. Set it all up and in 4G there's no data - just crashes... If it goes to 3G (being stopped soon) it will work but it will then swap to 4G or more often than not "E" - which I assume is 2G... This happens no matter where I am, I can be in a 5G hotspot, in a different city where I was getting 700MB+ speeds with Smarty, it just doesn't work.
Then you have the "CUSTOMER SERVICE" which is diabolical, I mean, absolutely atrocious!!! A week to part reply to a complaint, send an automated response 18hrs later, then many more days for a part response, rinse and repeat, and this is despite me giving them every single detail that they required at the very start.
I only left Smarty because they messed around with the local mast, saying it was being upgraded but it was continually bad since and they outright just told me to leave... This is the state of customer service these days

Just a reminder that I think the 800MHz band EE use isn't used by Lyca. Good price if you can deal with the disadvantage
    Thislife79's avatar
I read somewhere, think it was Ken's tech tips (?) that the band Lyca don't have access to is one of the ones that penetrates indoors better... explains why I overnight went from 4 bars when they were with O2 to 1 bar or no coverage at all at home/work/gym. Only found out the reason through media coverage not from Lyca 🤦🤦 (edited)

Lyca are a CON. You buy their subscription and it works for a month. Later, plan (bundle) doesn't renew - they blame auto-renewal flag. Problem is they can't correct the error and will not honour promotional offer. They say offers are for the first time purchase ONLY. Its a trick to add as many subscribers to achieve goals only known to them. Stay away from them. (edited)
    Lyca_Mobile_CS's avatar
Dear Customer, please be informed that while processing the transaction, please make sure that auto renewal is turned on and you provide the consent to save the bank details for the auto renewal to continue without any issues. In case if bank card expired, you can logon to your Lycamobile number to update your new bank card before the plan gets renewed in the following month.

Now I've read the comments im debating whether to port my numbers (which I've had over 20 yrs). I need to act fast because Plusnet are about to pack it up...

I've already placed order on Lyca, as it would ensure i was still using EE network.

What would people suggest i do, cancel and get a Lebara deal?
    matd80's avatar
You will get a code for a ee sim only deal when you decide to leave plusnet - similar priced to your current plusnet deal afaik. I know 2 people that have done it and both went from around £6 on plusnet to £8 on ee.
  11. ssc1's avatar
Does the plan start from activation. Not order. ?
    Lyca_Mobile_CS's avatar
Dear Customer, Plan will start from the date of sim card activation, not from the date of sim card order.
  12. blake4100's avatar
after reading these comments I will not transfer my number to Lyca to avoid all this nightmare after the promotion period end

I am pleasantly surprised. I have lebara and lyca on dual sim. Lyca 5g signals are rock solid. Having said this is very subjective and depends on your location.

Agree with customer service feedback. But never had any problems with txt PAC service. (edited)
    mutley1's avatar
i have ported out of lyca once and the PAC worked fine. for some people this doesn't seem to work. i had a problem with lebara recently with getting the PAC through the text but that was when their system was having a glitch. i think lyca system is more prone to glitch than most.
  15. Tighfisted007's avatar
Lyca have the worst customer service I've ever come across. Their representatives just don't care about providing customer services. Best find another provider
    deleted2904274's avatar
Must take some beating to beat Three to that title. I don't think anyone could beat that shower when it comes to cancelling a contract. I may as well have talked in Klingon the amount of English they understand.

Shocking company to deal with! I can only echo the previous comment about their horrendous "customer service"!

One to avoid unless masochism is your thing

    I guess there’s a reason why they’re half price v ee

Never had any major issues or reason to call customer services, have the 1p 3gb sim as a 2nd number and £9.99 unlimited data in a mobile router (old Huawei B900 with band selector) regularly get over 100mbps at home and 3-400mbps in a 5g phone at work.

Occasionally will drop to 20mbps and recently they've had a change of APN which you have to manually change, but after turning data off then on, shoots back up.
    afn's avatar
What is the new APN to make sure I am using the correct one please.

Got this on the 89p contract. So far can't fault it 5g too
  24. colinmessitt's avatar
No conditional call forwarding either, they seem to block you setting it.
    mutley1's avatar
because they are already doing it as they route call through their own system of some sort. my phone detects the conditional forwarding when i make a call.
  25. LEGOWarrior's avatar
Can existing customers switch to promotional plans?
    mutley1's avatar
no. you would have to port out and back if you want this plan. or sign up and have a new number.

Absolutely awful reception after they silently switched to EE without telling customers. That's even when in areas covered by EE. Stay clear...
  33. skycheapcheap's avatar
    DONT DO IT
    CUSTOMER SERVICES IS HORRENDOUS
they just leave you on hold
pass you from department to department
shocking, they don’t let you cancel
    you can’t complain
    absolutely no reception coverage
  34. keifrb's avatar
I have had a Lyca SIM for 3 weeks and used both primarily in Central London and Edinburgh. The coverage is the worst of any provider I have used, Lebara for me is the best budget option.
Despite advertising 5G coverage, I have had no 5G coverage in my time with this mob. The app also never loads up to show data left, I have had to log on to their website for this info. Also tying to Port In my number was time-consuming, involving messaging their customer service dept.
I have come on HDUK to get a new deal. Avoid this mob at all costs. (edited)

I ordered eSIM more than a week ago. Received an email saying "SIM registration successful". The email contained absolutely no orders or reference numbers of any kind and the QR code is just a blank square! Been trying for a week to get someone to help me but they are beyond useless. They give you a few seconds to reply in live chat before they leave, otherwise I get a lost connection issue. Finally got through to customer service who asked me for order details which I didn't have, nor was I ever sent. They told me to wait 24 hours, but didn't give any explanation what I'm actually waiting on. It's been over a week now and still nothing.

Is there any easy way to cancel this eSIM without having any details of it except that they took payment? Lyca are absolutely shocking to deal with.
    Lyca_Mobile_CS's avatar
Dear Customer, We apologize for the inconvenience caused. Please PM us the email you have used for the sim card order and the Full name so that we can check and assist you.

Out of pure interest I tried all the cheaper providers, Voxi, Smarty, Lebara, Lyca. They are cheap for a reason the service is substandard, customer service is poor. I pay more directly with EE but it works, customer service staff speak English as their first language, you pay for quality or reap the headaches and frustrations. (edited)

Stranded in Germany without any network. Anyone knows what to do? I have an All in One £10 monthly plan and it included 5GB roaming data. I can't connect to any German network. I use Google Pixel 6 if that matter.
