Just the worst C/S in living memory, would not even take their service for free (edited)

Worst is understatement. It’s beyond worst.

I find 5G on O2 very slow…From Temple station in London a walk along by the river up to Westminster station i can hardly stream internet radio.

Looking at other solutions….Maybe Superdrug mobile that runs on 3

I’m quite happy with “3”, they always give me a good sim only deal.

I've just received the email of april price rise for my existing contract. Thankfully, I'm out of contract, so I'm wondering whether upgrading to this as an existing customer will mean that I will still get a rise in April 2024?

Also does anyone know once I go ahead with the upgrade, what happens to my existing sim and how quick will the upgrade place? i.e. will my signal go down immediately, a day or two later or not? (edited)

Sim stays same. No loss of service etc. it’s all seamless.

This isn't a good deal tbh or am I wrong? (edited)

I can get 80GB for £10 using this deal, so is a pretty good deal for me personally, I doubt I'm the only one. We are all in different situations though of course, with differing opinions, 3 months disney+ included also

Fair enough. Decent for now though.

Can’t wait for my O2 contract to end. The speeds and coverage across the Wirral seem to get noticeably worse each month

In the same boat mate and I can't wait to leave to. Shocking how bad its become. I've been with O2 for a good few years but enough is enough. I only stayed last year for the Disney+ but thats mostly rubbish now to so yeah, can't wait to jump ship myself. (edited)

Does 5G work yet on O2?

They claim to have launched SA 5G in 14 areas last Thursday. But I can see no evidence online anywhere of people being able to connect to O2 5G SA.

I see speeds of up to 10Mbps on NSA 5G on a full signal.

It seems like O2 are oversubscribed still and have no bandwidth for data services in a lot of places for 4G or 5G. (edited)

That's been my experience of o2

I was with O2 for a number of years and moved out to Lebara, partly because of the price hikes, and partly because of the terrible connection issued in Oxfordshire. I had volt too (before I moved from the virgin catchment area), but I was paying £20ish for 2x contracts with more data we could ever use.
Lebara had a £1pm/6 months deal, so with the savings I think it was worth the hassle. Speed is similar, connection is as rubbish, but I'm only paying £1! (also EU roaming is important which is present on both companies)
    royy's avatar
I'm on lebara as well moved from o2 for me o2 was the worst I've ever had it was that bad I thought there was something wrong with my phone. I has o2 years ago and it was ok but now its absolutely awful. Lebara just works I have security cameras and need my phone coverage to be reliable.

Firstly, good for those that don't have network issues.

I purchased the previous £8 deal in December and it was the worst mistake I ever made! My tariff was changed due to some system glitch and upped to unlimited data. Took me 2 days to get in touch with someone who understood my issue and fixed that. Then a couple of weeks later I had no signal, tried calling myself and it said invalid number! Took another 3 days (with no access to my number) to get O2 to tell me they disconnected the number due to suspicious activity (the tariff change I mentioned). Without notifying/warning me in advance mind you.

As it was a 12 month contract, cheapest way out was to upgrade to a 30 day rolling by paying £20, then using PAC to port out. With Lebara now and no issues.

Don't care about losing the VOLT benefits as the negative experiences I had are not worth the extra speed with VM.

Edited a mistake, meant unlimited data not mins. (edited)
    curtis392's avatar
Their £8 tariff always includes unlimited minutes so not sure why youthink you were changed to a different one

This isn't as good as the £8 deal last year but baring in mind this is going up to £8.70 in April, I would be getting 3 months of Disney+ for £15.60 (over the year) and if another deal comes along, then I am sure they will still "waive" the early upgrade fee as they've done for years.
    t3r4's avatar
It doesn't increase this year, only contracts taken before 8th Feb increase in April - see the first comment.

Does Volt apply to every O2 Sim? i am looking at the £8 one.

EDIT* talked to an O2 agent, says it applys to every SIM, but say price will increase even if you Virgin media this April (edited)

    Yes!

Just reading the comments above regarding low 5g speeds with O2. I am with Sky mobile which uses O2 signal and I get pretty decent speeds on 5g. I'm no expert but could these speed issues be dependent on location? These are the speeds I have just achieved inside my house.

Update: O2 UK did finally start 5G SA rollout on Thursday.

But only in 14 cities, and nlt sure how much in SA coverage in each.

O2 speed is pretty bad in my area. However, the free drink on Thursday and free Greggs helps ... a bit ...
  16. herby247's avatar
Yeah good to remember you get USA, and Mexico roaming included having 02&Virgin Media.

Worth putting “O2” in the title?

Isn’t their standard 32GB/£8 proportionately a better deal than this? What am I missing? (edited)

I'm thinking the same, no price increase until 2025 too?

I use to be with O2, glad I left, had nothing but no signal, data, couldn’t text, they told me to drive into town to use my phone… Wasn’t helpful at all. Cancelled my contract month early, still waiting for a phone call from the complaint department for compensate. Wish me good luck for getting that phone call as I’m still waiting
  24. N1Andy's avatar
Do they still do the 20% off if you have more than one SIM?
If so, how do I do that if I am looking to get this for my daughter (and the bill sit with me)?
    sadman120's avatar
Yeah u have to text or what not but I would wait until they do the retail price index price change and then sign up otherwise it will be more
  25. Palm_Tree's avatar
O2 are great if you can get the volt benefits too. You can use your data in places like USA for free (as well as double data and a broadband speed upgrade).

Already have a sim with o2 that is out of contract, I can't seem to get this deal when I pick the upgrade option. Anyone know if you can transfer to an esim using this deal, and keep your current o2 plastic sim phone number?
    dré.'s avatar
have you logged into your o2 account, the option is there for me.

Anyone got a Disney+ free trial code they don’t want and happy to give away?
    dré.'s avatar

They don't offer 3 month free disney on plans lower than £10 anymore?
  32. gingerwarrior13's avatar
do you know if the free 3 months Disney+ is the premium, standard or standard (with ads) plan? (edited)
  33. jpoolfitz's avatar
Just letting you know that your payment method has been successfully changed to One Time. This means you will need to make payment of your monthly bill manually. You can do this using MYO2 or by calling 202. Didn't request this change or you wish to reinstate your Direct Debit? Call us on 202 (free from your mobile).

Confused by this text as set up new direct debit when signing up to new deal
  34. PeakCheckk's avatar
Do agree on signal issues, if your in main cities it is fine but if your rural good luck lol. EE was the best for me in terms of signal and speed but your paying x amount more for it. I would stay with EE but I travel and they really take the p with charges. 02 works great in most countries with roaming and is included
  35. Franklin_Goodwin's avatar
5G with O2. Good joke . This is a good deal if you're in one of the cities with limited O2 5G coverage (and it will be limited, and don't trust their coverage maps).
    KevinMcComps's avatar
There are only 14 places with proper SA 5G. Those were supposed to be live from last Thursday but no reports anywhere of anyone in those 14 places being able to use the proper 5G.

You do need to be on a monthly contract on their new 360 billing system.

You also need to have a physical R15 type sim which will have 5G4pp on it, or an eSim.

And obviously a phone that supports standalone 5G.

I'll believe it when I see it. (edited)

Could I run 2 sims.. One for me and one for my daughter? And get volt for both?
    AndrewRoss's avatar
Yes, you get O2 volt benefits for all sims listed under the address with Virgin Media installed. I'm not sure if there is a limit or not, but it definitely works for at least two sims.
