Looks like this is effectively the replacement model for my 5 year old Alpenchallenge 02. Similar frame but with internal cable routing, and the addition of a rack integrated into the mudguards.
Mine's the version with Shimano Nexus 8 speed hub and Gates belt drive which makes it a really low-maintenance winter commuter for rainy Glasgow. Spec on this is a bit more conventional which keeps the price down. BMCs are expensive for the spec at list price, but this is a bargain for a great city bike.

If this can handle Glasgow then it is a bargain… I personally would go for specialised Sirrus but this is dead on f you can afford it.

Would this be better or a road bike?
What would the weight on this be?
    Whiteside's avatar
Depends what you think you would be using it for. This one would be decent for commuting and leisure rides. If you are more into longer, speedier rides then a road bike would be bit better for you. In saying that I know someone who did a 100 mile ride on a hybrid without a bother.

Be aware that you could get a cheaper bike from somewhere like decathlon. If you are just starting off that will still be decent but won’t waste as much money if it ends up being a piece of static garage furniture if you don’t take to cycling, (edited)

Looks like the perfect commuter bike. The only thing I would have loved is to have integrated lights. Other than that, great: drivetrain, brakes, Thru-Axle, comfortable saddle, mudguards, integrated pannier rack and kickstand

Absolutely. Integrated lights would make so much sense. Seems an odd omission but I guess maybe different people have different preferences for their lights.

Not sure about the colour of the mud guards but maybe that’s for visibility to other traffic.

I would be all over this if I didn't already have something similar.

You can't find the weight anywhere. There's no way this is worth the original price. It's barely worth the sale price. (edited)

Alloy fork won't help the ride quality, most BMC bikes have carbon forks at this price.
