£255 roadtax so I'm guessing not ulez compliant
    heathead's avatar
ULEZ requirement is NOx based, Car tax is CO2 based. All new cars registered have to meet the most current euro spec so they will by default be ULEZ compliant.

Looking at a number of reviews for this car and the concensus is that they are out of date, uncomfortable, unreliable, not particularly safe, with a rough engine. Expect to lose 50% plus of your investment within 3 years, particularly as it is a version at the end of its life. The only reason to buy this is that it is a 'cheap' new car. Buying a used Kia with the balance of its 7 years warranty would seem a better idea, but if you have to have a new car then this is certainly one of the cheapest.

Having worked with the Chinese their attitude towards safety is completely different to the Europeans (edited)

There's a completely new MG3 being launched next year. It looks like it's going to be a 48V mild-hybrid, not an EV. If they keep the price low(-ish), it could be interesting...

A lot of car for the money

(At least compared to other manufacturers)

Had a 2017 mg3 lux until June of this year. Had it for 3 years from 21k until just over 54k. The lux is or was the top spec with leather, climate control, auto lights, wipers, cruise, reverse sensors etc.

A really nice drive, not fast no, it’s only 105bhp, not crashy or noisy. Yes you will only see 37-39 mpg until you are just on motorways. Tax is £120, insurance is cheap.

Never had one single issue in the 3 years

Just traded it in for a top spec mg hs exclusive at 7 months old for £23,000.

I paid £5300 for mine in 2020 and got £3900 as trade in

Car snobs will insist you don’t buy them but they are very good.

And at least it has some engine there - none of this 0.9 or 1.0 turbo petrol junk...

This is a very, very cheap made car.
Drove it as a courtesy car for a day.

I would not pay 20% of this price to have it. The handling is terrible, I was going to get sea sick driving at 60-70 miles per hour. The fuel consumption of the car showed average 38 miles per gallon, the car had done only 450 miles. The plastic interior is very cheap. The sound from the “infotainment” system… I haven’t heard anything worse than this!
You get what you pay for

    rare... normal price car

I thought the same. Very nice to see a usable family size hatchback for sensible money
  8. GDB2222's avatar
The 3 star crash safety would rule it out for me. There's a very, very mediocre review here:

Ok if you live in Wales and maily drive local, we don't get out of second gear I think we would survive an accident going 17mph.
  9. jammyr21's avatar
An awful car. A mate has one and the car has leaked from every corner causing various electrical faults. Use you're money to buy a decent second hand car instead.
  10. gtd65's avatar
To be honest, even at half of this price point, I wouldn't bite.
    Stetec's avatar
    Good to know
  11. Technoman2's avatar
Wern't these around £8999 before covid and the model is due to be replaced in 2024 so probably getting rid of older models before the new model arrives. This will also kill the second hand value of this model. That said when you compare what else is on the market it does off good value. The BYD electric cars will be coming soon , not only do they make the batteries they make the cars.

    sanchez1st's avatar
That BYD Seal is a lovely looking car.
  12. zombie_unchained's avatar
I test drove this, feels underpowered, OK for city.
Also, it's bigger in size compared to car in this price bracket. And they have 7 years warranty so not bad either.
I bought kia because I had good experience with hyundai before ... but this car is not bad as some people think or say.
    DCollector's avatar
    It is 😁
  13. sameee's avatar
Drove one of this exact model for a rental for 2 weeks. Only had 30 miles on the meter before me

Its the kind of car that looks really impressive on a first look, but you'll be finding flaws with it within a few days that you cant do anything about

Eg : the android auto regularly lags for a few seconds behind (had like 30 seconds of lag at points). The cruise control is placed perfectly where you constantly hit it with your knee as you use the clutch. The boot covers consistently came out of the hinge. Seat was okay for 20 min trips, but any longer and It hurt. Etc.
  14. slaha11's avatar
Is this worse than Hyundai i10? (It's cheaper)
    P-7's avatar
    Absolutely go for the Hyundai

    Buy British, wink wink.
  17. bobon's avatar
Good little car, shame it never got a turbo to give a much needed performance boost.
  18. herrbz's avatar
Are they legally allowed to call it "Excite"?
  19. dhan-g's avatar
I own an MG.. it's very noisy , expensive parts , less miles per gallon. Either the manufacturer or the dealer will wash their hands , when approached within their 7-year warranty/guarantee on any non-wear/tear repairs. Painted pain
  20. fwog's avatar
    Nice
  21. RickyWong's avatar
Definitely can get behind this price for a practical hatch back - heat added
  22. borat1234's avatar
Had one as a loaner while my MG ZS ev was in for service......the MG3 was like stepping into a Peugeot from the 90s. Woukd avoid at all costs unless you want some retro driving experience.
    royals's avatar
Erm Peugeot from the 90s, they made decent cars then. 205 gti, 306 gti
  23. Will4long's avatar
I`d be considering a Dacia Sandero at this price range over the MG.
    Cremoso99's avatar
If you can get one at that price. Cheapest one in stock on Dacia website is £14,445.

For a cheaper one I assume you have to get it built and wait. (edited)

"An MG3 was tested by ASEAN NCAP in May 2018, producing a poor score of 2 stars out of a possible 5, with the car receiving a score of 0 in the frontal impact test due to poor protection of the driver's head, causing it to bottom out through the airbag as found in Euro NCAP's testing."
  25. DCollector's avatar
Having had one for a hire car recently I can see why it's "cheap". Wasn't a great drive. Very rattly interior. Not much power at all. Boring drive. But guess you get what you pay for.
  26. navneet1311's avatar
This engine is rubbish. No economy and no power. But decent car for the money
  27. deleted231063's avatar
They've just released the first picture of the new 2024 MG3. It has a distinct resemblance to the MG4 EV...

Mg make decent evs for the money. I'd not be inclined to say the same for ice cars.
  29. DJ8's avatar
Excite? Not sure the model name lives upto itself
  30. vladdy's avatar
Fugliest car. I'd rather get a Dacia
    deleted2810965's avatar
in terms of looks,it still looks better than 99% cars Suzuki,Nissan and Toyota make.
  31. surreyspireite's avatar
I need a car just to get to then end of this initial post... will this car reach it? (edited)
  32. TheRaider's avatar
Remember a test drive of this in 2021, was horrible. just a grim car and would not pay £13k for one.

Poor sub 40mpg for such a small and weak car, high road tax, horrible handling and feels really cheap

Dacia sandero for same money is a far superior car, this might be cheap chinese junk but the romanians can produce a better car for the same money (edited)
    Stetec's avatar
Except that dacia is a renault clio
