looks like you are gonna have to use original ink cartidges with this, probably why it seems cheap unless anyone knows different
    gavin1's avatar
activating Instant Ink Plus means HP will lock out the ability to use clones carts in the future through software updates and patches

    Ordered. Thanks OP.
No brainer with the free ink

When you go through the set up select the 700 page option, it’s all free and you can downgrade all the end of the 6 months to the right level plan, there is no charge
  3. alfiesmum123's avatar
Use topcashback also 11 percent back.
A student or someone who qualifies as 10 percent off too.
    Makes this even cheaper.

Bought a few months ago and very happy with it, not a single problem setting it up and customer support are great if any questions all this for peanuts really.

If you print any type of volume - Invest your money and buy a HP Smart Tank. We’ve had the SmartTank 555 for about 18 months. Printed over 2500 pages, not gone through the included bottles of ink yet! (edited)

I have g6050 canon megatank from past 3 years , as kids print all silly stuff.
Still parents happy as full 4 bottles costs £40 for original ink (Half if replacement ink) lasts easily 6+ months (edited)

Is this printer any good? Or is it going to be in the bin after 6months of ‘free’ ink runs out? I would be printing photos on photo paper mostly I think.
    kathyheel's avatar
It's a good printer. Have a search for a code for another 3 months of ink, select the 700 pages a month option. Keep it for 9 months then bin it.

Endless WiFi issues with these, fine if you use over USB but you need to be connected via WiFi for Instant Ink to work.
    Optimus2050's avatar
I have this and there are no issues with WiFi…. You get 6 months of 700 pages per month of printing free, fantastic deal at this price

Bought this in lockdown, it’s been amazing for <£30
im on the 15pages free per month and on the odd occasion I pay £1 for an extra 10. No connection issues for me, scanner works fine too

Thanks ordered for 25.19 with 10% employee discount.

Louis rossmann did a video recently on why people should avoid hp ink jet printers at all costs. Basically he said everyone should buy brother laser jet printers instead (edited)

Was it sponsored by brothers? :/

Cracking deal with the free ink. Ordered!

I’ll never buy a cartridge printer again. Complete rip off. Even refilling or other branding cartridges cause too many problems or won’t work at all with chip detection. Watched videos online where brand new cartridges are cut open to reveal no ink at all other than a soaked sponge. I’ve had an Epson Eco Tank for 4 years. Cost less than £200 and still using the ink it came with and my wife and I do tons of printing.

I have had a HP Envy printer for years and the free ink plan is a god send. Never had any problems with cartridges or wifi. The whole family connects from various devices.
On the plan you pay for the paper used, so its like a fiver for 100 pages, much cheaper than ink refills.
Ink refills often cost more than the printer!
  18. BanbanaNan's avatar
Just be aware these printers and the free ink deal are not that great, every time you get an issue with the printer troubleshooting it will lead to lots and lots of printing which wastes paper and ink.

Having to print using free ink and free paper, nightmare
  19. sweet_princess7866's avatar
How much is the ink anyway
  20. howbord's avatar
How long do you have after purchase to activate the ‘free’ ink
  21. shell99's avatar
Can you print on card ?
I need a hp printer which prints on card
    RedmanDealer's avatar
You will need to check the exact specs on the HP website for that printer. I know that my one can do card but only small sizes like business cards.
  22. BargainHunter1501's avatar
Most people blame the printer when they have printing issues using Wi-Fi, when it’s usually the network, power cycle all 3 devices, usually works.
    deleted2460409's avatar
    No it's the printer

    Voted cold
  23. Ben_L's avatar
How to work this if I already have a HP ink account?
    BargainHunter1501's avatar
Just add as a new device.

Also available from Amazon at the same price (with next day delivery if you have Amazon Prime).

It needs Wifi, but you DON'T NEED A CONTINUOUS CONNECTION despite what many say.

I turn it on and off with my Desktop PC

Look I get that this is great value, but it's also just a headache. Used to cycle through these, when covid hit got a decent hp laser printer for all the day to day stuff and it's been a beast. For the rare colour page I got a photo printer, so after holidays we can print out a few nice snaps as we like as well. It probably costs me a bit more but the quality is great and there's zero hassle.

i bought one they have only sent one lot of ink in the six months they are saying i still have ink but ran out weeks ago on monthly payments plan started and still not got my ink disappointed emailed them hardly 6 months free ink
    The.Fatter.Cat's avatar
They forgot to send us ink once, you can request replacement catridges for free via the HP Smart website.
  28. thelaine's avatar
    Terrible printer.
    Avoid hp.
  29. Chris_R23's avatar
so how would a really light user printing very rarely take advantage of the ink subscription, if at all
    Chris_R23's avatar
If you cancel you won't be able to use unused ink - any unused ink cartridges you've paid for will stop working at the end of that billing cycle, meaning you have ink cartridges you've paid for that won't work in your printer

ok so you cant collect the ink through the trial period for a later date, dont think ill bother with HP

Just ordered this, I’m going to subscribe for the free 6 months Instant Ink. Just a question, do they supply just ink or is there any option to get paper also. Someone mentioned you get free paper first 2 months for the 700 page option. Has anyone got this?

Just to say, I've just sent this back. Spent half a day trying to set it up. Contacted customer support who have to be the worst set of staff I've ever come across.
I'm pretty good with technical stuff and have had a HP printer in the past but could not get this set up on HP+, which is needed for instant ink.
Never ever dealing with HP again 😡 (edited)
