Sorry OP, but cold from me, even if it's free.

You'd be better off signing up for BitWarden. The free plan is perfectly fine but they also charge just £7 a year for premium, unlike the £48 quid this service does.

This! Been using it since Lastpass went downhill.

Proton are the only company that can back up their privacy policy, far more than the advertising friendly Express who have spent millions getting their brand out there
Proton provide actual privacy and don't make a song and dance about it, their record speaks for itself
    deleted2961197's avatar
There are hundreds of these companies and plenty of them can back up their privacy and have done so in court. Some arguably more secure than Proton; Mullvad come to mind. Proton has given someone up before, and whilst that was via Proton mail they did begin logging due to a court order and assist authorities. (edited)

    Heat added because it's obviously a good deal if you want ProtonPass. However there are other Password Managers that are factually better. No doubt PP will catch up one day but in the mean time you have a ton of good options already;

1Password - One of the most expensive managers but also the best you can get. Most features and the strongest security via it's design with an extra secret key.
BitWarden - All rounder good option. Not as powerful as 1Password but will satisfy most people, and significantly cheaper/free.
(Various PW manager apps similar to BitWarden EG: NordPass, Dashlane, Roboform, Keeper etc.)
Browser or Phone based Password Managers - All free. You can freely use Firefox, Chrome/Google, Edge, iCloud Keychain. Obviously all these are limited to basic credential storing and autofill forms. Device limited.

Don’t think bitwaren is THAT much than 1PW for a family account? Obviously the free tier is though

Can't use Revolut disposable card, rejects it.

Create a new virtual card in Revolut and then cancel it.

Just use password123 no one will ever know

Hey, that's the same as my password! What a coincidence!

Great deal and great, safe company. I highly recommend Proton to anyone looking to move across to a company that doesn’t sell all your data (Google, Outlook, Apple etc). I already have their Premium sub and swear by it 👏🏼

i got this when it was on offer for £1 a month and its great. The alias feature is awesome for all those annoying websites that make you sign up for an account, makes it so you don't have to give them your personal email address.
    khyrn's avatar
Agreed, shame the app is so poor that I’m still using Bitwarden for another 12 months.

Is there any advantage over the free Google Chrome password manager, available across all devices?
    Ama_Zon's avatar
Google Chrome password manager isn't safe. With specific software someone that has access to your computer can look into your passwords...

I get that it is free for 12 months and you say to use a card that can't be charged but 12 months flies by and then what? Pay whatever the going rate is or go to the effort of having to move the lot to a new provider and start all over again. I am a proton subscriber and don't use this due to exactly the reasons i just mentioned.
    Greyze's avatar
But that's kind of the point. Lure customers in n all that. Most Password Managers have offered similar deals in the past. Hardly a big deal though since almost all of them allow you to export/import your vault to a new app so it's straight forward to move somewhere else

Never tried proton, but was a longtime LastPass user until they hiked the price. Tried a few others such as Roboform, etc until I settled on Bitwarden premium for the pass few years. Great value for money

Use Keepass, free FORVER, and more secure.

    My password is incorrect.

I just make ones I can't remember then reset it everytime I need to logon.. Sometimes I forget the new one before logging on and have to reset it a second time.

    Write your passwords down.

In security speak, Thats called an "air gap".

    Super secure
    dahokolomoki's avatar
I leave each of my passwords in a different drawer at home. Extra air gap.

Now I need a password location manager to keep track of where I put all my passwords... Does Proton do this too?

Not sure why people don’t just use the password managers that come with your phones. Trust Apple with my information more than I would a third party - plus it’s free…

Keychain is great n all but not everyone is in the Apple ecosystem

What happens if you get locked out of the account? Does the app create local backups of the password list?

Will still keep the 12 months pass plus if I cancel after a couple of days?
I always forget to cancel these sorts of things then end up getting charged.
  23. harmony999's avatar
If you use Apple devices or share passwords across multiple devices they are encrypted as standard. (edited)

Also what about Keepass ive been using that for years and its 100% FREE. Is there a reason paid for subscriptions (even if free for 12 mths) are a better option? Or am i missing something
    Greyze's avatar
Cloud support for starters. I can add a login credential to the manager and it's automatically available on all my PCs, Macbook, Linux devices, Android and iPhones, every Web browser, Work PC etc.
  25. andersh's avatar
Great for the email alias feature. I'm still using Bitwarden for passwords for the time being.
  26. Android786's avatar
I switched to bitwarden when lastpass became paid and have had no issues with it and it works on all of my devices
  27. deleted2844744's avatar
All these Proton features are starting to be like the big boys' ecosystem.
And we all know, keeping all your eggs in one basket is anything but safe!
Avoid it at all cost or just use one thing from Proton such as Mail. That is decent, but I would not considered to pay for it and give out my details during payment.

    I just use Microsoft Authenticator.
