Just don't use them as much I think I would and then the nozzles dry up. Doubt the technology has changed since I last had a printer preventing this. Does anyone have one of these and can recommend cheap replacement cartridges that work?
    dré.'s avatar
HP will replace ink if it does dry up, I only use my printer a couple of times a month, had 1 issue, they sent new carts and gave me 1 extra month instant ink.

Bear in mind before you purchase, HP have been known to use several tactics to keep you buying ink. They will disable their printers from using ink if there isn't an active instant ink subscription on that printer. This will happen even if the printer has a set of brand new ink cartridges in it. They've also been know to disable the scanner function if the printer is out of ink.

    Honestly, it's not worth it.

Not quite. If you enable the Instant Ink Plus offer then part of that is you agree to only use HP cartriges and in that case then yes HP WILL use updates to enforce this, and disable the ability to use copy carts.

If you never take the instant ink offer then you can use clones carts.

Unfortunatly most people don't read the small print when signing up for an "free" offer.

    Which Review:
    Underwhelming HP printer.
The HP Envy falls short in some important areas – print quality is reasonable, but it’s very slow and ink costs are high. Even if you’re committed to buying a printer with HP+, there are better choices.

    Pros
    • Reasonable print quality
    • Wi-fi and Bluetooth
    • AirPrint and Cloud Print
    • Good scanner

    Cons
    • Very slow
    • Expensive to run
    • No screen"

    Freezing again.

Used to be excellent, however now they've split the business, the half that does the cheaper non enterprise stuff is shocking. Poor build quality, poor support and even the ink has got cheap and nasty.

As an ex employee of an HP reseller and qualified HP tech, take your money and go elsewhere. You'll have to eventually, probably about a month outside of the warranty period.

What happens after 3 months? You can't use it anymore?
    leigh321's avatar
Instant ink is a subscription package, you choose what package you want each month, so after the free 3 months then you decide how much printing you need each month and pay, packages start at 99p per month for 10 pages.
  8. Sir_MawT's avatar
That's a good deal. What happens if you don't subscribe to the monthly subscription and just want to use the ink it comes with? Will it stop working?
    OldGrump's avatar
As long as you don't activate the instant ink subscription by using rhe free months it's just like a normal printer. Dont think you can get compatible ink for them so you are stuck with expensive ink. Personally I use the £2.99 plan which gives 50 pages a month and you get new ink when you need it. I need to replace ours so I'll need to check our work perks scheme as at this price with 3 or 6 months free ink it's a no brainer for me

Pro tip : research HP printers before buying & will probably save yourself some money in the long run.

look at Canon or Brother printers

Do your search in the long run HP is a rip off.. other brands are more value
    OldGrump's avatar
Depends what you need. I've had numerous other brands where cartridges dry up and nozzles block when used infrequently, especially with cheap ink. Our HP and instant ink works well for us, printing infrequently. Costs £3 a month and just works.

Thanks op.ive been waiting to send back my hp2710e to amazon which is so unreliable in terms of connectivity.

HP are a nightmare. I've had 2 and never again. Canon are far superior.

Thanks for posting. Hate inkjet printers but at £20 for 3/6 months it might be worth it for me. (edited)

Whats the difference between this HP Envy 6022e and the other 2 recently posted - HP Envy 6032e and 6020e? I did a comparison of all 3 on the HP website and it shows no difference.
    dré.'s avatar
6032 has duplex and 6 months ink which worth more than the gift card if you want to print a lot (or carry over for 3 extra months)

Is it possible to use compatible cartridges with this?
    leigh321's avatar
You are receiving instant ink with this printer which means HP send you replacement cartridges when the ink is low automatically, after the free months end you choose what printing package you want, they start at 99p per month for printing 10 pages, it is a subscription service and you don't buy cartridges.

Great if you like Lines thoughout....
I am sure I just got a dud...? (edited)
  17. Goosi's avatar
Silly question perhaps but after the free subscription has expired, can you stop the subscription and keep purchasing genuine HP ink cartridges yourself from say Currys or do I need to start a new subscription plan?
  18. g00ner82's avatar
HP ain’t great get Canon tbh

I’ve had a hp printer for 4 years now and still working fine. No wifi issues. I’ve changed my instant ink subscription a number of times from low print quantities to higher depending on my usage. I’m tempted for this offer as i keep expecting mine to fail soon as most printers only seem to last about 4 to 5 years but it’s still working so no complaints from me
