Looking a good sub £100 gaming keyboard

Hi there,

Just looking to get a keyboard for my nephew for Christmas. He has a good PC but just seems to play league of legends alot. Just wondering if someone could point me in direction of a good keyboard for about £100. I did look but don't understand the difference between red switch/purple switch etc.
Please excuse my ignorance on this!

I've never found gaming to be particularly keyboard sensitive, unlike typing. There just aren't many games where you're rapidly swapping between large numbers of keys.

If I was just gaming I wouldn't spend anything close to £100 on a keyboard.

    Hello there.

What you are looking for is called a 'Mechanical Gaming Keyboard'. You can definitely half your budget and get a competent one.

I use a model from Corsair and got it from Scan many years ago. It is still rock solid, then again I'm not bashing my keyboard playing the support role in League of Legends. Fun times.

The corsair k70 rg8 pro is below 100 now, are the keys silent or clicky do you know?

My son has a mechanical keyboard and its soo loud i want to smash it over his head, he keeps sneaking on it until 4am and waking me up before my work alarm at 5am, so i have to take away his power leads, kids and gaming mixing is a nightmare
Just be warned if he plays until the early hours, his parents will hate you, these kids spam the buttons soo fast its like they're playing an early 2000s Olympics game (edited)

Definitely go with mechanical as opposed to membrane. Do you know what size keyboard he would like? It's quite an important factor to take into consideration because gaming keyboards come in various sizes, and some exclude certain features that he may want. For example I personally prefer 60% keyboards because they're small and easy to move, however they do not have a numpad. I've tried quite a few keyboards, and personally one of the best I've found is from a brand called Ducky.

With regards to the colour of switches, I'd recommend taking a look online at the differences between the colours. It's really just personal preference. Link

I see a couple of comments have mentioned Corsair, however in my experience they aren't worth the money. I used to have a Corsair K63 and the key caps were so terrible that they would fall off without any effort whatsoever. Very cheaply built, and the same goes for Razer. They might be the biggest names, but they're certainly not the best. (edited)

Thank you so much for your reply, it's just so confusing. I was recommended razer keyboards but think I'll have a second look now, thank you!

I got my girls a couple of these a few months back and they are very happy with them. You could maybe buy a nice mouse to go with it.

I have a hyper x alloy origins 65 which is great to but has a us layout. Keys are more clicky on the royal kludge keyboards though.
