  • Rated at MTTF greater than 1.5 million hours for extended longevity and reliability, Crucial 5-year limited warranty

Sequential write performance

4290423_1.jpg

"The good news is, the P3 Plus can absorb up to about 550GB of writes within its pSLC cache. This indicates that all of the QLC is capable of acting in single-bit mode for a total cache capacity that’s one-fourth of the flash. This cache will diminish in size proportionately as the drive is filled based on how much space is left free. A large, dynamic cache is a good way to hide weak native performance. The P3 Plus’s cache is ample to handle typical, bursty workloads."

Brill price - heat added - works perfectly in my PS5, for anyone wondering I use the below linked heatsink and no issues for past year

It wasn't a few months ago but 7 months ago.

I have this in my PS5. Works well.

What heatsink do you use ?

Bit OT but does anyone know of any good software for testing an SSDs true capacity is usable (not saying this one won't be) but I got some extremely cheap 4TB ones on eBay of a brand I've never seen that are recognised but short of copying over 4TB of data and painstaking checking every file not sure how to confirm fully functional.

Can you use the same tools as for micro SD like H2TestW and fake flash test? (edited)

These do not have DRAM, which to some is important. They also have QLC NAND so transferring a huge amount of data at once will slow them down.

Perfectly acceptable as a Steam or OS drive and a great price.

So no to PS5 usage before i buy?

I’ve currently got a 2TB in my PS5 and want to update it at some point to this one.

Is there any way of using both on the PS5 as I know it only has one slot? Guessing I can just put it into a PC/Laptop but don’t really have any compatible so will just have a 2TB lying around lol.

I could put into an enclosure but assuming that won’t necessarily work on the PS5?
    dfunked's avatar
An enclosure would work, but only for PS4 games.
External drives allow you to store PS5 games but not play them.

Presumably this needs a heatsink to go with it?

An heatsink is useful but the P3 Plus is a cool running SSD according to the reviews.

Still very much active, £154.99 is the price after £20 quid discount.

That's the non-plus gen 3 model, not the gen 4 model of this deal.

I'm torn between do I really need it, and do I really want to miss out if prices are going to go up. Doubt you'll get 4TB for anywhere near this price again this year... Slightly under spec for PS5, but works flawlessly from what I've read. (edited)

Works with no issues in my ps5.

If any future game requires a faster SSD (unlikely) then move that game to the internal ps5 drive.

Some people don't realise when you 'upgrade' the ps5 SSD you still keep the existing internal drive. The upgrade is a second drive.

Perfect for gaming. Any large transfers and you might as well use an abacus tho

According to Trendforce SSD prices will skyrocket this year so might be a good idea to fill your boots should you need this capacity at some point in 2024...

That's a good price for the capacity and relatively decent speeds. Would be great for gaming, or as a secondary drive. Heat added, I've caved for extra storage before the suspected price increases! (edited)

wait for this to hit sub 100, already got 2tb, so can wait, no rush
    silencesanctuary's avatar
It's good you're in no rush because prices are forecast to hit the roof in the coming months, and stay high for considerable time.

Is it worth putting this in a synology NAS or just sticking to HDD and using a small capacity SSD for cache?
    Potterified's avatar
I struggled with the same conundrum recently, and have gone ahead with 4 x 16TB 7200 rpm drives rated for NAS. The cost difference is just too much per TB. And because you'd need to use adapters anyway, thereby butchering the speed, not much point, in my personal opinion.

I've had mine delivered today to replace an old 512GB TLC DRAM boot drive. Moved my OS and Steam games to it no problem and so far I've noticed no difference. Saving my other 2gb TLC DRAM drive for game records and other video editing.
    Lukus's avatar
Curious if your Steam downloads are fine to the drive, or if there’s major speed ramping?
  18. Robert_Boulton's avatar
Can I still use my old SABRENT M.2 NVMe PS5 heatsink with this?
  19. ZeroHikari's avatar
any good as a laptop drive for OS, Steam and Media? Got a WD_BLACK SN850 2TB right now, but needing more storage as only one slot in my Zephyrus G14 '23 model

Nice to see these keep dropping in price. My dream of an NVME based NAS is getting closer and closer.
  21. Rush_More's avatar
Time to build the nvme nas. Mirrored volume, here I come.
    Yorkshire_Donkey's avatar
What NAS housing are you using, I really want a synology based system but only qnap and asustore cater for NVME nas so far.
