Mines been excellent, no squeaks when turning over and the mechanism has been faultless with me opening and closing at least once per day. I personally think it's excellent for the money, and the build quality is great for the price. It doesn't feel cheap like some of the eBay specials.
It's been so good, that we're looking to purchase a single sized one too.
As with the low to the floor thing, personally I find this type of bed normal height and you'll find most beds of these shapes are this high from the ground. Absolutely perfect for me, although if your close to my dad's age then you'd want something a bit higher.
But they are useful to hide a load of stuff out of the way.
