Ordered the Reebok Trail trainers from Sports Direct, which are advertised as being Gore-Tex (and still are!). Turned up and they are anything but! Needless to say, the customer service makes it impossible to return. Still won't acknowledge they're incorrectly advertised. Never again.

The inside footbed and lining is goretex accord to spec. It should feel like goretex. It might even have goretex branding on it.

What would be the advantage of this over something like walking boots? Is it waterproof?
    Haircut_100's avatar
The advantage is that it's generally going to be lighter than a walking boot, and depending on what boot you are comparing it it may well be more comfortable and easier to walk around in all day. The disadvantage is that it may not offer the same support as a boot. But then again there are good and bad walking boots of all different varieties, just as there are good and bad walking trainers. It all depends on what exactly you are wanting it for, the type of surface you'll be using it on, whether you value comfort, longevity, support, breathability, waterproofness, etc. I haven't tried these Ridegerider GTX shoes myself, but I've got a different pair of Reebok GTX ones and they've been absolutely fantastic for years, easily outlasting my North Face GTX shoes that started leaking and had the sole wear away whilst the Reeboks have kept my feet dry in heavy downpours and have lasted for a serious amount of miles. Feel like I should comment on these because they are awesome. I have used these as walking shoes for years and they are amazing, comfortable and my feet still don’t get wet in my current pair that are two years old. Yeah colour isn’t everyone’s taste but for the price point you can’t go wrong 🏻 I have expensive walking shoes and these are better in my opinion
    whyhellothere's avatar
thanks! good to know. so do you prefer these 'trainer' format over the more traditional walking 'boot' format? I'm just worried about lack of ankle support on these for hiking vs walking boots!

Can anyone who has these advise on fit, i.e. are they true to size, or need to go size up/down?
    BenjaminDover99's avatar
    Agreed - true to size.

Expect them to leak within 6 months though.
  5. Roadie82's avatar
I got these a few months ago. I'm a postie and wear these every day. Very comfortable from day 1
  6. neils31's avatar
These are nice and comfortable. But soles don't last very long.
  7. jb90's avatar
Remember, if you want these shoes but you don't like who is selling them, just pay with PayPal. Easier to get money back if they refuse to refund etc.
    shortfry's avatar
I get not wanting to buy from sports direct because of who they are but returning a pair of shoes bought online is easy. They literally can't say no, assuming not worn outside and within the returns window.

I have an older pair that I use for walking the dogs. Can walk through almost anything and not get wet feet. Heat.

Will the same deal be available in store?
    Bargainsrule's avatar
I thought that and went in-store for a pair of boots recently only to find they were £12 more expensive in-store plus the fuel I'd wasted getting to the store of course the wife was happy as she got to go to Dunelm, next etc
  11. pagehamillton's avatar
Are these wider in toe box or narrower as I have bunions thanks
    BenjaminDover99's avatar
    Wider than most
  12. redserpent's avatar
I got the black ones. They are very comfortable.
  13. paully's avatar
Great price, I won't order from Sports Direct though. Bunch of cowboys.
    sashforth's avatar
Normally I would agree but this is such a good price that I am sorely tempted.

    Hate the delivery £4.99

How do you think "free delivery" is paid for normally?

It was s good deal until I read sports direct.
    I'm out.

What's wrong with them? Return issues?
  18. OhTheMajesty's avatar
Get decent non goretex trainers and use waterproof socks
    jb90's avatar
So the shoe can get wet inside and rot?
  19. laccc's avatar
Thanks, ordered, but don't know why...still haven't touched the last 2 pairs..
  20. lordrobs's avatar
Even allowing for delivery that is £10 less than the black pair I recently ordered from Amazon which I haven't even opened yet. Another advantage is that my wife also has an almost identical pair in black so with these at least we wouldn't be one of 'those' couples if we wear them at the same time
  21. egonspengler's avatar
The title says 'mens' but the description says 'womens' I'm confused who these are for.

Comfy trainers but both mine & my wife's leaked within 6 months & were sent back to Amazon with no hassle (- we paid nearer £40 I believe). I doubt Sports Direct will be as accommodating.

I've just ordered the gtx ASICS from a deal on here - if they leak the same way, I'll be ditching Gore-Tex as too many bad experiences in the last few years.
    blueyes74's avatar
The tread on my Reebok went after about 4 months and I had to send them back. Got a full refund. I've had an ASICS pair for around 3 months now and the tread has stated to go. Apart from that both pairs were completely waterproof.
  27. justabout72's avatar
I have a pair of the non gore tex ones very comfy but the soles are very hard and do not flex a lot. Also very slippy considering these are aimed at walking shoes (edited)
  28. Wangmashta's avatar
I had the non goretex version of these. Absolutely awful. Fell apart with 6 months of light use.
  29. Roarster26's avatar
I have these for the dog walk across nature reserves. Hold up to wet morning grass and mud, comfy & decent for the price paid here.
  30. nazlfc's avatar
What are the sizes like? True to size or go one up?
    BenjaminDover99's avatar
True. If you are around a 9, ignore anyone that says to go up.
  31. ES02's avatar
Got these in September 2022. They did me good for a couple of hikes in the snowy alps that winter and occasional walks in the English Countryside after that. Now they won’t even keep my feet dry in London. Think it’s worth spending a bit more if you’re looking for gore-tex trainers. I still wear mine as my rough pair of trainers and I guess they keep my feet dryer than most shoes, but I can no longer walk through shallow water or snow like I could when they were new.
  32. Iceman7k's avatar
Ahh no size 12. Do I dare take a chance on 11.5
    BenjaminDover99's avatar
They are a wider, comfier fit than most trainers out there so you might get away with it.
  33. dickybow's avatar
Anyone know if these are instore?
  34. David_Williams71's avatar
True to size, I've got a pair of black ones, wear daily to work and they don't stink !
    Will be getting another pair
  35. Ouzoherb's avatar
These come up narrower than the standard ones and superfeet won't easily fit
  36. Bunf's avatar
Great price but I've seen this too late for me as very limited sizes left.
  37. Carpetbagger's avatar
Good deal heat. I can't stand sports direct, yet I continue to buy stuff from them.
