The company are con-artist, I’ve spoken to them about my faulty smart meter sending negative readings and they just brushed it off repeatedly.
    mocmocamoc's avatar
I had a similar problem, my smart meter was about 4 hours out and messing up my cheap EV rate. Basically they claimed there was no problem at all, then they said they'd sort it but never did. My advice is to go to the ombudsman, it doesn't take very long, especially when you're in the right. The problem gets fixed and you also get compensation.

For a company that claims to pride itself on customer service, there isn't any.

I note people who claim they are excellent aren't giving any real examples of excellent CS except they're quite cheap. Like many things, you actually have no idea if they're any good until something goes wrong.

Is this legit?? Curious as it’s on a sub domain and not actual Octopus site…can’t be too careful these days

Hi, this deal can be found available on the official octopus site via this link - octopus.energy/blo…ys/ , for ease for members we have set the get deal link as the direct to order form for this deal, which was linked directly from octopus's energys official website .

Why not just plant the tree, without this nonsense that achieves nothing?

Customer empowerment maybe? Why not just apply to plant one without this nonsense about achieving nothing and achieving nothing?

Cut our bills the price of gas on the world market is at its lowest in years . Crooks.

If you're on tracker, you would only be paying 3-4p per kWh. Cost us about £1 to heat a three bed house for the whole day. £1.5p/day when it was really cold in Dec.

octopus are a good company to be with HOWEVER because they've taken up so many customers from failing energy firms, their customer support hasn't been able to cope. I predict it will start to calm down by summer.

    Done, thanks for posting.

Nothing but praise for this company since switching.

"Turn data collection into an experience with Typeform"
It appears Typeform running this for Octopus requiring you to enter account number etc; makes you wonder where else your data going.
    s10's avatar
Octopus uses typeform alot. It's just a digital forum company.

Has anyone been told where, or even if, their tree has been planted ? Without a location or photograph how do we know this is actually happening ? Most schemes would at least give this info so you could go and see it each year, see how it's growing and maybe even have a picnic under its branches in Summer. Without proof there are no trees and it's just a publicity stunt. A precise location is required also not just 'a laburnum in Birmingham' or 'a dogwood in Battersea'. Not too much to ask is it ?

As someone who has donated to approximately ten tree planting organisations over the years I can assure you that you will never get a photo. These aren’t like “adopt a donkey” programmes.

The only thing you usually you get is a broad location/country and occasionally the type of tree. I do agree more oversight would be nice, but also I’d rather the money goes towards planting trees and not extra clerical/admin work

The facts that people actually believe that planting a tree is going to save the world.. Ok
    Matty1302's avatar
Replacing trees that have been cut down is always a good start. Trees play a vital role on our planet.

    30k trees does nada... pointless

Lot more then your pointless comment tho mate.

Pine trees are some of the easiest things to grow and can be started from your windowsill. You just need patience as they’re not super fast growers but if you really want to get into the tree growing thing they’re a good shout. I’ve started a couple..
    andiron87's avatar
The main problem with planting trees is not the tree itself - it's a land. You can't just plant it on public land, and nobody wants to give away they private one. Hence all these trees are planted abroad..

WALB. We've been with octopus for a good number of years and, as we had a multi fuel stove our gas and electric useage was very low. However, since the convid and them absorbing some smaller companies their customer service is appalling, their charges actually penalise low users and once we're settled in to our new home I'll be researching and changing supplier. (edited)
    aaad1's avatar
What do you mean they penalise low users?
I am currently with Octopus, I am considered a low user considering my electric only flat uses about 80p a day. Pretty sure I am a low user but never have been charged for not using enough

Thanks for the link, that's one more from me

I planted one at primary school almost 50 years ago.

This means I can buy a V8 surely!

You don’t even need an account and can click submit and it’ll go to the next page saying they’ll plant a tree on your behalf.

Good spot, going to sit here just pressing enter 60,000 times without entering anything

Never had a problem with Octopus, customer service on the one occasion I used was excellent, they are innovative, give more back, we get fan club discounts as we live near a wind farm, etc etc and a free Greggs coffee....
  18. Gimme-Discounts's avatar
Are they planting trees, or are they just buying carbon credits to offset/cancel out their carbon emissions? A lot of companies do this to avoid making green changes in their company.

    The Green Task Force-
A staggering 6% of serving and former personnel and 17% of those that have been in a combat situation are suffering from some form of PTSD. Service leavers also suffer a lot of stress and anxiety when transitioning from the service.

With this in mind the Green Task Force was established with the aim to offer these individuals the opportunity to get involved in Nature Based Therapy, which has proven to have a positive effect on mental health.

I use ecosia so i hope all my searches might have resulted in a tree being planted. This link was a game changer a whole tree planted with my account number and email so thank you for this….no tireless searching to get the number up 🌴🌲🎄🌳🎋

My daughter got me on this, I've planted 18 trees through it

An individual tree is carbon neutral over it's lifespan. Only in very large and dense concentrations do you get the sponge effect that soaks up carbon. So unless Octopus have thousands of hectares set aside for a new rainforest it's just another green gimmick to allow customers to falsely alleviate themselves of carbon footprint guilt. P.s. the term carbon footprint was coined by BP in order to shift the blame/guilt from the fossil fuel industries and onto consumers......

I'd say 30K trees is a pretty large and dense concentration?!?

Funny how so many trees are planted but so few ever grow to maturity. I guess no one gets money for tending the same trees over the next ten to fifteen years.

I never understand the phrase "plant a tree"!! In a general sense I do, but when companies use that as tag lines, they should be held accountable!

They plant a.. "plant"? Or rather, they sub contract the "planting" business to someone else, who, I can only hope, gives them a few decades (or centuries) to turn into fully grown trees! There are no guarantees that the sub contractors don't sell the land on to the next one in line, who don't then turn it into a quarry!

Personally, I think them planting 30k of trees is a great thing, no matter of the marketing. Good on them

It's meaningless, globally the UK hardly emits anything compared to China and the US - the reality is we are too small to decide the outcome of climate change.

Power companies r evil money hungry parasites! Us paying through the teeth for power while they admit they have more money than they know what to do with.

My big gripe is Standing Charges, but its ofgen's fault for allowing these. The Gov. should outlaw them.

Check out TreeApp if you want trees planted on your behalf every day - I finally hit 1000 the other day 🌳

I doubt they have planted 1000 trees on your behalf but I do believe they have got profit from you for watching the ads.
  30. xxbluedragonxx's avatar
Will I get photos and written notes as the tree grows up?
    Kornelius's avatar
They will chop your tree down in 30 years, make a paper out of it and use it to send you bills
  31. Mark_Hickman's avatar
So are they sending me a tree ? Otherwise this makes absolutely zero sense
  32. ikky101's avatar
The trees will get planted regardless of anyone opting in for it. If they really wanted to help plant a tree that’s meaningful why not send one to be planted in your own garden
    bookdream's avatar
I agree, so what's the point of this 'offer' by Octopus?

They have been the best company I've dealt with - leagues ahead of British Gas, EDF and the like. You've lost perspective - go back to the old school Big 6 and you'll know what I mean!
  34. Yoxxox's avatar
ah ....but what if I wanted to visit my tree in some remote forest...would they give me a clue with the Just Three words app?

I refuse to go with Octopus purely on the basis I hate their radio adverts so much
    terriertom's avatar
I feel the same way about Jet 2 and that dire song they've been using on their tedious adverts for ever - please make it stop. Would never travel with them for that reason.
  36. Janek_Kolol's avatar
    I want an octopus toy!
    terriertom's avatar
Stop moaning you're having a boring tree and that's that.
  37. 1VR46's avatar
Why don’t they just plant the trees without making you go through the hassle?
    Searching4deals1234's avatar
The reason is probably some kind of tax relief. Hence the need to provide a account number so that it can be double checked if needed
  38. lmukuk's avatar
Dear Octopus, can you plant the tree in my garden. In the far, right hand corner a few metres away from the garage.. thanks.

No problem! Is a Giant Redwood okay as we only have those left? 🤭
