I am curious about this tool.

Is it used primarily in a commercial environment, or are crimped connections/terminations something your supposed to find in homes/flats too for reg purposes.

I.e in what environment is the investment (all be it £7ish) good value?

Ferrules really help with making secure connections into screw clamp terminals. By holding all the strands together they make a much more firm end for the terminals to bite onto as it's being screwed tight.

Without this all the strands are free to move around and will deform as the clamp is tightened

Bootlace ferrules are not always the best choice though depending on the terminal, some terminals work better with fork crimps on the end.

This sort of stuff is mostly important within industrial equipment, controls panels ant the like. It's not as relevant or important at the domestic level, however as above said they are still good practice. Whenever I redo wiring in my house I remake wire end terminations with them. But, that's only cos I already had the tools from industrial work/use. I probably wouldn't bother if only doing the odd thing around the house. (edited)

Good for either 47p or the normal price.
Personally I would opt for the hex crimp rather than square.

Depends on what you are doing, eg cage-clamp terminals square is best. If you're using quick connects like WAGO etc square is better.

Trapezoid/Hexagonal ferrules have smaller sides too so limit contact patch but often if its a round hole its going in go for trap/hex, if its square go for ... square.

Ferrules are an interface between two conductors. Crap, high resistance ferrules generate heat and can easily contribute towards loose wires and ultimately an electrical fire.

Keep the crimper, chuck the ferrules in the bin. Replace them from a local distributor. 100 packs for a couple of quid at TLC.

Your house and life are worth more than 47p.

FYI - Aldi/Lidl does a similar set but to EU standards with a 3yr warranty.

    Keep an eye out.

So how does AliExpress work, do you always get charged customs fees etc?
    shortfry's avatar
No. You won't get custom fees on this

It’s important to know the limitations of Section 75. Here’s what isn’t covered:

    • When a purchase is less than £100 or over £30,000
    • If you used a third-party provider to pay instead of buying directly. Third-party payment providers like PayPal will usually offer their own payment protection scheme, and third-party holiday providers should come with specific holiday protection
    • If your purchase wasn’t a single item, for example, two single train tickets cost £60 each, so £120 in total. This is because the single item is under £100

I would check reviews,i got a similar one off Amazon and the ferrules are crap basically tin foil they don't grip the wire ,useless. The tool was ok but had to buy decent ferrules that won't burn your house down because they come loose. Knipex ferrules are a good brand.

Whatever you do don't knock the box over with all the ferrules in it scattering them far and wide over your garage / shed floor. This is a rally bad thing to do

I have never done this, honest, just a warning to you

really a pain to have a defective/faulty item from aliexpress.

I bought a defective drone from there a few months ago. Surprisingly had a really positive returns process. Free tracked return and refund processed in 3 days. Not saying it'd always be the case but I was pleasantly reassured.

How to get it for 47p? just come sup £6 odd for me
  19. let.them.eat.JAZZ's avatar
This type of crimp tool design is the best of all I've tried. Like someone else said get the tool cheap and then buy good quality ferrules separately

Ordered for 47 pence. Can't wait to see this.
With any deal like this from these Chinese sellers, in my experience, the customer loses out. In spite of the pictures it turns out to be one pcs instead of ten or you are charged ten times the apparent price! Or the size is much smaller than it appears to be, or it isn't stainless steel.
It's even worse with anything electrical.
But what can possibly go wrong with this?
