I can confirm that the drills both have LEDs....

Ah has nothing to do with power. A 1.5ah battery has identical power to a 5ah battery. The only difference is run time.

LethalSilence

??? 'Two speed all metal transmission for increased runtime and longer tool life'.

Dan3434

The higher the number the more powerful the tool you are using will be and also last longer. 2ah / 3ah more than ample for any diy at home and will still last 5 or 6 hours with casual use. If using for a bit more than diy ideally 4ah or more would be preferable.

Indeed does. That's how I came about it, didn't fancy running a 4ah in it due to weight

Bought a few dewalt items from these guys always good value
Nerak80

I'd second that. The DCF887 is brushless and has more torque and is imho a bit more refined overall. I buy my tools in general from FFX (Folkstone Fixings) and when I upgraded from the DCF885 to the DCF887 due to someone stealing the former it was £80 (bare) there a month or so back so well worth it. But this is a fair price for the DCF885 posted by OP.

andyb83

Honestly, it's worth spending a little more and getting the DCF887. It's a much better tool, although this isn't bad.

Well the dcf887 is what normally pairs with this, you can find it on ebay for about £65 (bare unit) when they have a discount day. I have both and have been pleased with them on the whole, they are probably overkill for general diy, but have some useful features like the torch mode on the drill.

Just got one of these as a belated Christmas present, voted hot thanks. Use screwfix all the time and have never had any issues apart from with dodgy delivery companies. They've been great when I wanted a replacement for a reciprocating saw that broke as well. And no, I don't work for them, lol.

Zaxxan

That's a shame. Screwfix is my favourite shop. Good price for a good drill. Voted hot.

psd99

Thanks for those explanations

andyb83

On most power tools generally the first thing to go wrong is the brushes. Obviously with brushless you don't have that worry. They have a better run time and usually more power too.

bamhicks

Brushless motor mate, they are supposed to be more sufficient, more powerful and make less noise.

You can buy an sds chuck for £5 you can use it to do with it what you want, they recommend not using it on the hammer setting but for £5 doesn't matter if you break it after a few uses, especially if you're paying £7 for a specific sds bit you're only going to use the once

Ameer_Ahmed

Definitely. Have one myself. Recommend it.. very easy to use without the wires, transformer, extension leads, etc.

Despondent

No worries. For casual use around the house Parkside at Lidl sells some decent tools. Not great, but good enough, and the range is great

nemesis600

@Despondent @martynbez Thanks for that exactly the advice I needed!

Despondent

You wouldn’t use this. You could put an adapter (sds to chuck) but even on the drill-no hammer setting you wouldn’t have torque control. For not much more than the price of the adapter you could get a decent combi drill that would do the job just fine. This is for drilling in concrete and similar materials, period.

Freddie_Fryer

Hi. First post. Bought this from eBay from powertoolmate. They also advertised it for 289.99. eBay were doing 15 percent off so got it for around 246. Just had it delivered today. I can say that what was delivered was as advertised. It's excellent value for this kit. With 2 of the 5ah batteries and charger, the dcd996 combi drill which is one of the higher spec drills and also includes the d887 impact driver. All comes in the DeWalt tough system case. So hot hot hot for me. Only downside is that it might take some time to get used to the weight of the drill. It's a beast of a drill. Highly recommended. Last I looked they had sold 320 of these kits. Their eBay rating was over 99 percent. Pay with PayPal and you should be absolutely fine if their are any problems as you are entitled to the eBay money back guarantee.

No idea why this is voted so cold. Brilliant find.

Rishi_Raja

I think maybe not the long warranty but I was also looking the Erbauer kit which is at Screwfix for 109.99 and an updated version at b&q for 150. Good reviews from what I've read and reasonably priced.

Rishi_Raja

Just to ask as my first post. Any reason why it has been voted cold?

Yep I couldn’t agree more! The regular pz2 bits are very good bits. I can’t really point you towards a decent impact set, I have been using a Bosch impact control set for a while which seems pretty good , it has the blue multi drill bits in the set too which come in really handy, iv even used them on mild steel and was very impressed!

Like these bits, the little point on the tip is simple but means it doesn't wander when starting. Drilled 24 X 10mm (just shy of 100mm deep) holes in solid edwardian facing bricks for thunderbolts with a DeWalt cordless sds with no discernable loss of performance by the end. Bit pricey at the retail but this a good deal.

DomManley

I've used the extreme 2 bits for a couple of years and always been impressed with them. I tried cheapie drill bits, and they are just a waste of cash really. Especially at this price, it's way better to buy a decent little set.

eezageeza

Yeah with you on that polarbaba, where i live aldi & lidl are in the same street and a stone throw apart. So i nip between them as one of them always has a DIY special on. I bought a spare set of SDS chisels and drills from lidl when i was building my house extension. They had a fair bit of punishment and will take a lot more yet & they only cost me about £10. Just posting one of their deals now ;)

polarbaba

The Lidl stuff is also very decent, crazy value for money. I've got an parkside (Lidl brand) bit set where the box looks more used than the bits!. If you're not in a rush keep an eye out, they have great stuff like Aldi.

eezageeza

No probs bestbitter. Everyone likes a decent deal on good drill bits. Incidentally the drill sets that can be had in Aldi are great for diy/occasional use for not a lot of notes and they come with a tidy plastic case. Just to verify i don't have any links to aldi :) I just appreciate decent stuff at reasonable prices when i can get it. Hey thats why we're all here eh.

I'd perhaps opt for the two piece set with this drill and the impact driver with same batteries, charger and the tough system box for £300, as slightly better value. But if you don't want/need the driver this is a fine price. I also used a 20% ebay code, so paid the same price as this for it. But I'll still give you heat for this find. Well done OP.

royy wrote: Are the extreme ones bettrr for impact dont know if this price is ok but the link is just to show the difference maybe To add to what Schwifty said, getting through a box of normal bits is ok for an occasional job but I regularly use an impact driver and find that torsion bits last so much longer and are worth paying the difference for: about 13p per bit in this instance. This is a very good price but orders under £50 pounds add a fiver for delivery, making these £11.70 from PTW. The same from FFX is £7.45 including delivery.

Bit holder is an extra £2.54 To confirm what Schwifty said, I use an impact driver for very long screws, into timber in my case.
