And I assume it comes with a Euro plug?

GDB2222

It depends what you're going to do with it. An SDS drill has a certain amount of play in the mechanism - it's inherent in how the drill works - that makes it unsuitable for accurate drilling, particularly in soft materials. OTOH, SDS is great for drilling into very hard materials that an ordinary hammer drill, even this 1300w DeWalt, may struggle with. If I could only have one drill, it would be the hammer drill, not the SDS.

DaChinski

Agree! And you can additionally turn off rotation to just use hammer - for removing tiles (buy a good wide flat bit) or breaking up hardcore. It is heavy at c6kg but it is incredible value for money inc a 2 year guarantee. Don’t get me wrong, I love Dewalt and own loads of their 18v kit - but this is excellent bang for your buck.

AirbusA380

For an SDS you really can’t go wrong with this from Screwfix https://www.screwfix.com/p/titan-ttb278sds-6-3kg-corded-sds-plus-drill-230-240v/97533

All the torque in the world good luck using it for long with a 1.5Ah batt, the Hitachi is a pretty good deal though you should post it.

thomasleep

Side step aldi, but the Hitachi seems good for the money and half decent battery too! But feel free to post the aldi or toolstation drills?

Bright.Star

Only 42Nm torque! Save your money and get Aldi's 20v at that spec. for £50 Agree with H&S.... Go for the Toolstation one. Brushless. Hitachi at £150 very tempting though too at 70Nm Code 63686

ameerahmed

The non brushless version is excellent. I'm on my 4th year and use it on a daily basis! They're still pretty damn good! Esp with the 4 ah.

JustinKampongsa

Because I think a lot of the screwfix ‘deals’ that are posted in here are actual done by people who work at screwfix , a lot of very random things come on here sometimes as they are trying to shift stock I think

andynicol

err, okay then :/

QuidProQuo

mine did it with no hands (highfive)

andynicol

Definitely the battery? Have you tried with another battery? You will notice a difference as the 10.8v DeWalt impact (DCF815) isn't as powerful as the 18v Makita DTD146. Makita LXT 3.0Ah Batteries are around £40 new.

andynicol

Thats not the point that you put across, what you said was 'Isn't it a little pointless buying a driver and impact driver?' , and I attempted to answer that question and put the point across that they are 2 different tools for different tasks. But to address your new question 'why do I want a 10.8V driver when I can do the same with my hammer drill?', there's a place for smaller, lighter drivers like I've mentioned previously, particularly when in tight spaces, or up a ladder where through prolonged use, the lighter tool will be noticeable and make for an easier job. Totally agree re interchangeable batteries, and for your average household, an 18v combi/hammer would tick all the boxes, and be useable in all tasks, couple that with a matching impact and you've covered all the basics, BUT try installing a new kitchen with only an 18v combi, you'll manage but will constantly be changing drill bits and screwdriver bits every couple of minutes. There's a reason tradesman have multiple tools for varying tasks, 10.8/12v smaller drivers for tight spaces etc, 18v combi for up top of the scaffold to save taking more than one power tool up there, 24v SDSplus for drilling into that concrete lintel, impact for removing stubborn screws and longer deck/fencing screws, but for most households its overkill, but don't knock them as 'underpowered' just because you don't see/have a need for them.

kaisno

Thought of doing that, but there is an aspect of laziness on my side, but will have a look at it now you mentioned it. Thanks

I'm a service engineer, and often find myself swapping from PH2/PZ2 to 8mm/10mm to T25/27 taking panels off. I also need somewhere to store the screws removed. I've tried magnetic trays, and still use them daily at work. When I have removed 20 or 30 6mm screws though, the trays get full, and the vertical hold is weak. I also tend to leave trays behind - yes, even the bright red 4 inch one from amazon is behind a panel somewhere. I'll get it the next time I'm maintaining that piece of kit. Hopefully a bright yellow box that has several bits in it, will ensure I don't lose it... hopefully... ;)

ipswich78

Useful to know, thanks - any chance you could point me in the direction of some decent drill bits? Problem I have had in the past is that I have bought brand names (bosch etc) but the masonry pieces seem to last about five minutes. Don't mind spending the necessary money to buy them - just don't want to make the same mistake again. I'm keen to buy something more in the professional range.

healthandsafety

Where?

beaufinder1

These are normally anything from £10 up

ThanksForThat

Because these cheap "all-in-one" sets are low quality. If you sort the reviews from low to high (rather than the clever default of high to low) you'll see plenty of bad reviews. You simply can't get decent drill bits for this price, end of. DeWalt do make some fairly good bits, but these aren't them.
