That looks like an excellent deal. I got the the previous £150 brushed set, but this looks like a better deal to me.

This is a fine drill for the price. I use it as a secondary drill to my larger dewalt combi that came with 5ah batteries. It did regularly appear on offer at screwfix/b&q for £100 plus vat but they seem to have shuffled thier range around now and dewalt are giving them an exclusive model with better 3ah batteries but a far inferior drill unit. I'd head for this one. Its not going to last too long if you're drilling numerous holes in timber joists, but for sticking wall plugs in and small to medium duties it'll be perfect. It'll far out perform most jobs around your home. The milwaukee mentioned in the comments is a much better drill unit, however I personally think having a battery drill with only a single battery is a waste of time.
stringsonfire6 m ago

Thanks, my mistake, couldn't see clearly if you could turn hammer mode off

Yes, and the good thing with Milwaukee drills is they have a separate selector for driving modes, as opposed to the drill & hammer settings being at the end of the torque dial. So if you're driving screws and want to switch to drilling, you just turn the drive-mode selector to drill and it sticks it in full torque, irrespective of where the torque dial is set. Then when you switch back to driving it's in the same torque setting as it was previously. It's very quick and intuitive.

Or they do a myriad of tool bags in the £10-£20 range, or just get a cheap toolbox for a fiver:https://www.powertoolmate.co.uk/Products/0040000a0002/EB%2FMIL%2FCASE

If you read what you actually posted, it even tells you that they deliver the exact same level of power. with the batteries wired in parallel they deliver the same power over a longer period... in theory 4.0ah could last twice as long as 2.0ah NOT deliver twice the power as they are all 18v battery’s...

To be fair, it doesn't say that at all. It says they CAN delivery extra power, depending on how they're wired and controlled.

Power is commonly measured in watts, and volts x amps = watts. The voltage in this instance is constant, at 18v. But the current is variable, and if the current varies so does the power; this is the case in normal usage, the drill will draw varying amounts of current depending on the load being put upon it. The amp-hour rating is a figure based on a constant- 1 amp over 1 hour, but that's in no-way indicative of the current draw of the tool.

I've over-simplified this example, but if a 2ah battery is designed to supply 1 amp, it will run for two hours and the power will be 18 watts (18v x 1a). If a 4ah battery is designed to supply 1 amp, it will run for 4 hours and the power will be 18 watts. But if the 4ah battery is designed to supply 2 amps, it will run for 2 hours and the power will be 36 watts.

There's a lot more to it than that obviously, but just to make the point that a higher amp-hour battery CAN equal more power, all depending on how the batteries are grouped and the control circuit have been designed. But it's not really a case of the battery being able to supply more current, but the tool being able to draw it. But I can't see why not.

Sorry if my opinion is wrong. I must be imagining the extra grunt. Now where did I put that little 1.4Ah I need to teach it some physics and tell it to exercise a bit to perform as well as big old 4Ah

and no I didn't get to the end of the link I posted because it bored me to sleep when the comments got repetitive. I got as far as the comment about the tool sensing a higher rated battery and drawing more power from it (overclocking the motor) and drawing less if a lower rated battery was used (underclocking the motor).
The comments made more sense than the article which was in fact incorrect.

The only thing you need to be aware of is that in some cases the manufacturers may claim you voided the warranty and refuse to honour any extended warranty.

if you register Bosch, Dewalt, Festool or Makita they’ll all give you varying levels of warranty but 3yrs is the standard (though dewalt will only cover 2yrs in the battery)

just be be aware that lithium batteries can be volatile if not look after properly and can explode although this is unlikely!

Yeah, agreed. While it did appear that some Stanley drills bare a close resemblance to older discontinued Dewalt models there still seems a distinct product line up, Dewalts are better than Stanley which are better than Black and Decker.

There are probably some common parts used and similarities in some aspects but they're not all the same.

The chances of being stuck with no charge with the latest brushless combi (like I mentioned) and a 4ah are virtually nill certainly not as a home DIY'er as this Screwfix deal is aimed for, mine goes for days of fairly intensive use (not masonry) in a professional environment, and if for some reason you didn't top it up before work and it ran out, just five minutes in the fast charger will give enough time to finish most jobs. The 1.5ah are a waste of space and should't even be offered with tools anymore, they are effectively the same size and weight as the Dewalt 2.5ah which should be the minimum standard now.

Only thing is make sure your battery has cooled down before charging.
I have one and find it is as powerful as a mains drill. Incredible for the size. Just used a 16mm blacksmiths drill through 1/4" steel with no problem (I know, I know its no way to treat a quality drill). Presumably the absence of hammer action justifies the large price drop? Shame as the hammer action is very good for the size of drill.
Battery life is also very good - far better than the ni-mh variety. You'd have to work long and hard to exhaust even a 2.0amp/hr battery.

Been waiting for these to drop in price, and just got an alert. Looks like it was briefly £1 cheaper, but this is still below my "bite-point". I've ordered one. Hope this of use t… Read more
I just bought one from My-Tool-Shed.co.uk for a £24.49.

Good effort though cheers.
I was pretty impressed when I saw these being used by the people that recently did an installation for me.
Claims up to 100kg. I've regularly wheeled around 6 Tstak boxes - mixture of small and large - full of stuff, without a problem.
How much weight can it load?
You can find these at a reasonable price at quite a few places now - eg -

mytoolshed.co.uk/p10…tml

powertoolworld.co.uk/dew…ley

both cheaper than Amazon. However, this is only on a £50 spend to get free delivery, so obviously need to factor that in.

Got one of these earlier this year for around this price and it's very useful if you've got a load of Tstak cases to cart around - it's certainly tough enough to withstand a lot of weight and very manoeuvrable on those lockable wheels. Definitely worth considering at around the £20-25 mark.

No problem.

Good quality impact rated bit set inc, holder, to go with it. You can get away with standard bits on the 1st speed setting but I'd definitely use impact-related bits on the faster speeds.

Thanks. Good if you don't need straight away and I can also add any add-on item to my order and I can always cancel this item if I change my mind and still receive my add-on items.

Don't get why this is cold - well I do:it's the standard HUKD lottery.

Great deal. If Dewalt hadn't set me up for a lifetime if (incompatible, inferior) TSTAK I'd be all over these.

Yes the FFX 400 mm larger size is a better deal as it is couple of quid cheaper. So long as you want the bigger one that is......

Ditto.I have just questioned why some have been honoured and some not.

Hi I'm really sorry for the inconvenience this has caused. Some customers had the order fulfilled and the sale price honoured, before the pricing error was noticed. After the error was noticed, all other customer orders were cancelled and customers were updated on this. Apologies you couldn't get the product you wanted this time. Holly

That's the response I got last time with the multi tool. Then they sent an email saying I'd cancelled it, and that's just the automated response. Hope you have some luck!
