I have two of these - they're great, I'd happily recommend them.

They take the same screw thread as a regular stills camera, so if you want to tripod them, you can.

I have two to help with painting ceilings. Lie them on their backs pointing up, and you can make a checkerboard on the ceiling, so you can more easily track where you've got to. I've found them very helpful!

Alternatively, try this one amzn.eu/d/7WBOx0i £26.99 for red and £29.99 for green. I have the red one, it’s very good. (edited)

Got a cheap red version by the same company a few years ago and done the business. Great prices for their tools

Got tempted by this as I've got some tiling to do and it's actually fantastic. Not sure why you would pay £100+ for a name brand.
And that's coming from a Milwaukee addict

Another good brand would be Huepar without breaking the bank!

Can these be used outside or is the laser to faint?

It says for use indoor or outdoor.

But just make sure your battery is in good health first before taking it outside. But for the price you can’t complain

eBay would be the cheapest but some good ones on Amazon

    If no, why?

What do you get from the alternatives, that this can't?

Picked one up today but seem to have got a faulty one. The laser doesn't work until I try to open the battery cover as though it's too tight and, despite unlocking the transport lock, it's not self levelling. Will take it back and try another

I have this, don't expect it to work outside! you can't see it. Ok inside and good laser, it has a gimble lock that protects it while in your tool bag

I had this in past. Returned, not that good.

Bought this last minute on Saturday when finding out the one I borrowed wasn't self leveling.

It's nice to inadvertently make a 'hot deal' purchase!

I've been happy with it so far and it feels good value to me. (edited)

Someone above says it’s not self levelling, is it? Looking to get one for tiling the kitchen.
