I recently bought an Aeron from this independent refurbisher (all he does is office clearances) and honestly, it came like new and the chap, Michael is excellent.

Because I chose an unusual colour (Green), it was £350 inc. delivery and I can't see me ever needing to repair the thing.
If I did, he has a million components in stock he can send out.

Oooo nice I’ve been looking for a good one. How long was delivery?

Clicked thinking “oooh I could do with a new chair, maybe I can get one for £50 or…. Jesus!”

    I’m sure they’re brilliant though!
    Starbocks's avatar
They are hands down the best chairs you can get.

HOWEVER, chairs are super subjective. Always best to go to a shop that sells them and try the different models / sizes.

There are also lots of great deals for used ones on fleabay and other websites, like these:
    The Office Crowd
    or City Used Office Furniture
    Corporate Spec (edited)

Bear in mind you can get some of these chairs for less from authorised resellers - I got a Verus Triflex a couple of years ago for more than 20% off the Herman Miller price (from here officefurniturescene.co.uk/off…ack). It had more customisation options. Comes with the proper warranty too.

You are right with this, but if need to claim on the warranty, looks like need to wait for the company you bought it with to raise with Herman Miller, as appose to dealing with HM yourself

I've had my eye on the Mirra 2 with a few authorised resellers, for example its here for £800 - Herman Miller Mirra 2 Office Chair. Butterfly Back | Back2

But with the 20% (and further potential 10%) it bridges the gap in price and may aswell go direct (edited)

Heres a link to a useful Herman Miller chair buyers guide on Youtube that I found useful in the past. It covers the most common chairs but the guys also got more in depth videos of the Aeron and Embody etc on his channel. Maybe check out ebay uk for the latest uk prices on the different models. Chair colour will affect price as well.

Used to buy these for a large energy concern. If you bought a few thousand a year, they cost £400 each.   Helps no one I know, but I can’t buy one knowing they still made a ton of money at that price.

Always suspected this, but still crazy to have it confirmed.

The high-back Cosm chairs with adjustable arms are an absolute engineering marvel. Honestly, forget the aero with the million levers and knobs. The Cosm chair auto adjusts based on your weight distribution, just go to a John Lewis and test it out. The best investment for my healthcare I've ever made.
    frozen's avatar
Interesting didn't know they had one that auto-adjusted, I like the aeros forward tilt though.

Also consider the ebay outlet as there are some bargains to be had. I got my Aeron from here and it was as new (may well have been new). Lacking in warranty but mine has been faultless for a couple of years and used daily on long days.
  10. C0mbat's avatar
You would mad to buy new. Refurbished or second hand from ebay or a reputable company like Corporate Spec will save you hundreds. I got a nearly new Sayl for £300 last month.

In before the £50 chair crew check-in. I've had about 7 HMs now and the Embody (w/ Atlas headrest) is what I've stuck with. I can get in 14 hour sessions (which I don't recommend) without feeling like death but then again I'm pretty fit.

I got this with the 25% last time. You're paying the premium for the warranty here. Is it worth it? After the last 3 price hikes, they're taking the biscuit. I'd love to see a cheaper competitor. Alt jump on FB marketplace.

I've done 24h gaming session (which I highly recommend) on a 100£ chair without feeling like death and I'm not fit, what does that mean

Check your local charity shop, picked up two Aerons about 18 months ago in my local one for €50 each.

Office clearance companies flog used HM stuff for very cheap.

Currently sat on a £861 chair I paid £140 for, not a mark on it.
    stu1892's avatar
    And are these companies online?
  14. Kidsteruk's avatar
Also, they have an eBay outlet worth checking too. I paid less than £700 for my aeron

Steelcase or Herman Miller. Well the vote for me is for Steelcase. It is contentious though and people can get very Internet angry over it so I will say if you're team Steelcase you are doing it right and if you are team Herman Miller well you don't like money, at least not spending it correctly :P

These chairs are crazy expensive and most companies don't even buy these. They buy much cheaper versions so if you WFH I don't think you need this. They are what I call luxury chairs. You can get cheaper and they will do the job. The real main thing is to move about and stretch. That helps your back and does wonders. If you do want a decent chair on a budget, sit on a gym ball. They are good for your back and you end up having to balance on it. May not be the most comfortable but they work well
    White5tar's avatar
I wholeheartedly disagree. One of the main benefits of buying a proper office chair like one from Herman Miller rather than a "cheaper" chair is that these last and hold resale value - especially the Aerons. Personally, I picked the Embody over the Aeron because it allows me to move around and stretch as I work/play.

A £50/£100 or even more expensive "gaming style" chairs will eventually break or give you back issues - they just cannot compete with quality or the research that goes behind proper office chairs. Also, these cheap chairs are not built to be used for more than a few hours at a time, unlike proper high-end office chairs. HM and other proper office chairs are rated for long hours of use with lots of R&D going into their development. It is easy to say - get up and move around, but it is not always easy in practice. I work from home and play on my PC in what little free time I have, so "normal" cheaper chairs are not suitable at all as, again, they are not built for long hours of use.

I speak from personal experience and have used cheaper chairs - my back has suffered in the past. Last time I bought a supposedly "mid-range" office chair (about £200 RRP). Initially, it was very comfortable, but after about 6 months, I started getting lower back pain. When I finally got my Embody through work and sat in it, I realised that my (not so) old chair was leaning to one side very significantly. Luckily, I could return it to Costco for a full refund, but imagine if this was from any other retailer—it would be in the dump.

Another added benefit of buying it new is the 12-year warranty—I have already had my chair replaced by HM once under warranty. £1200(approx) over 12 years is £100 a year. It's easily worth it, IMHO.
I was lucky enough to get my work to pay for the chair before the latest "financial crisis" hit when the company was more open with funding. Still, if I had to buy it myself, I would have purchased a second-hand Aeron/Embody, which is still far superior to any other cheaper alternatives. But, having used my Embody and benefited from the warranty, I would say it is worth buying on finance/credit if you can't afford it outright. Definitely worth investing in your health if you work/study from home or play PC games for any extended period of time.

I got the Aeron for about the same price from John Lewis after I permanently switched to working from home during the pandemic. Due to WFH demand, there weren't a lot of used ones around when I got mine, so this might not be such a good price now. But if you're sat in it for 10+ hours a day, I think even this much is worth it.

The Aeron was love-at-first-sit comfortable for me and forced me into better posture over time. It's built so well it feels perfectly new after thousands of hours of use. The Cosm was even more comfortable still but more laid-back and didn't feel as much like a chair for sitting up straight and working all day.

I found getting the right size and configuring it were essential. I'd not recommend picking one without trying them first.

Bought a refurbished one off fleabay during COVID, and remains one of my best purchases/investments to date.

Great chairs. Do your back a favour and spend the money on a decent office chair. (edited)

Buy pretty much any *operator* chair. Have used random cheap brands of them for for entire days for years with no issues. No need for something this expensive.

Where can I physically try out one of these chairs ? Nearest store to me is like 90 miles away in Liverpool according to the website
    Crossbow's avatar
A way to try at least one model... search on eBay for secondhand ones, then sort by nearest to your location.
Presently nearest ones to me start from 10 miles away, hopefully you'll find one much nearer.
Bought a secondhand one on eBay around 10 years ago & still doing great. (edited)

Just the three tracking cookies on the outgoing link, nice job there HUKD.

FYI Pepper employees, copy and paste still works so good luck figuring out how to get paid from that! 😁

Linked Aeron price is £1,070.40, cant find one thats £896.80

Why do you seem so opposed to Pepper making money? Do you think building, hosting and maintaining this website and app is free? :/

Like many have said, would love one but even this "sale" they are overpriced, I dont mind paying a premium for high quality, but not this much!
  24. Weehamish's avatar
Wow these have jumped like £300 since last year... i was gonna pick one up for around £800 but now the same model is £1070!
    dav31's avatar
The fully loaded model was £1,050 last year so only a slight increase of £20, not £300, you have may have been looking at different options with the arms and back support, the lowest is currently £896.

It's well worth the money if you sit at your desk for many hours each day, but make sure you try them before you buy. I personally found the Embody uncomfortable but absolutely loved the aeron and ended up buying one.
  29. Korg7's avatar
Lots of confliction on sizing, is there somewhere in the North west where they sell these at retail in a store- I.e You can sit on them and try them out like they used to do in PC world/Staples ect?
    BargainHunterUK's avatar
Go to John Lewis or Fenwicks, they'll typically both have the size B remastered on show.

I think I'd rather sit on a nest of fire ants and slowly develop scoliosis, than pay 900 quid for an office chair.
  31. frozen's avatar
I bought an old 2nd hand one and it's one of the most comfortable chairs I've used, my back is wrecked and even sitting for a few hours now is a little uncomfortable for me

The if the price is a bit steep for you check out 2nd hand and refurbished. You save 2/3rds with some risk.

These chairs are great, and last forever! we have them at my work and i found the cheapest way to get one was wait until they upgraded to the newer model and then just roll one of the older ones out to my car in the rush of chair deliveries.

    Wonderful chairs.

Man, the Embody's price really is staggering at 50% more than an Aeron. I had an Aeron for a bit (got it second hand) and it killed me; personally I think my bum was too big for a size B.
    HottUKDealer's avatar
Yeah I didn’t get on with the Aeron. Sold it and bought a HumanScale Freedom which I much prefer
  36. nightmoon's avatar
    it is too much.

I have an Aeron, an Embody, two Ollin single monitor arms, two of the Ollin laptop and tablet mounts and the Monto sit/stand desk thingy, and can confirm that each product is engineered with excellence.

One thing to note: the Aeron forces you in an upright position which is good for working but not the best fit for lounging. E.g., you cannot sit cross-legged pretzel style on or lean back comfortably to watch a movie.

I have 32-inchers on the monitor arms and they are simultaneously very sturdy and quite easy to move around, and offer great range of motion. I'm not even a paid shill
