sorted byBit late for me as I have realised I have had this problem (OCD, random repetitive thoughts and ADHD) all my life without knowing it. It really has held me back but that's the way life is sometimes.
If anyone has this type of problem to the point it is affecting your work, study, social interactions etc, I would suggest seeking some kind of one to one therapy even if it means paying for it. The money you you spend on developing yourself is well worth the price in the long run.
Sometimes feel like life has a 'completion' stage like a game
Is this OCD?
The basic idea is to split the tasks up into their levels of importance and urgency..

"Stop Overthinking And Get Your Act Together" by Lara Noble is a motivational guide aimed at helping readers overcome the paralysis of overthinking and take meaningful action in their lives. Here's a summary with examples:
Understanding Overthinking: Noble starts by explaining what overthinking is and how it can hold you back. For example, she describes a scenario where someone spends so much time analyzing potential outcomes of a decision that they never actually make the decision.
Mindfulness Techniques: The book introduces mindfulness techniques to help readers quiet their minds and focus on the present moment. One example might be a mindfulness exercise where readers are encouraged to pay attention to their breath to center themselves when feeling overwhelmed.
Setting Clear Goals: Noble emphasizes the importance of setting clear and achievable goals to combat overthinking. She might provide examples of how breaking down larger goals into smaller, manageable tasks can make them less daunting and easier to tackle.
Taking Action: The book encourages readers to take action despite their fears or doubts. Noble might share examples of people who took action despite their fears and found success, illustrating how taking that first step is often the hardest but most crucial part.
Developing a Proactive Mindset: Noble teaches readers how to cultivate a proactive mindset by focusing on solutions rather than dwelling on problems. For instance, she might offer examples of reframing negative thoughts into positive affirmations to foster a more proactive outlook.
Practicing Self-Compassion: Throughout the book, Noble stresses the importance of self-compassion and forgiveness. She might share personal anecdotes or examples of individuals who learned to be kinder to themselves and how it positively impacted their ability to move forward.
Overall, "Stop Overthinking And Get Your Act Together" provides practical advice and real-life examples to help readers break free from the cycle of overthinking and start living more intentionally and confidently. (edited)

Thanks Boz.
Overthinking is not itself a mental illness, HOWEVER, it can be a symptom of a more complex condition such as PTSD, trauma, depression, anxiety, ADHD, OCD, and so forth. Do not suffer: seek professional diagnosis and support. You deserve it.
