I have posted this as some of you mentioned concerns about angle grinders cutting your locks - this one is the thickest and most secure for this price range so will be the hardest to remove with an angle grinder.

It's 16.8mm wide (the last lock I posted was 14mm).

Specs:

Gold Sold Secure Rating

The OnGuard Brute U-Lock has the highest security rating in the cycling world, an insurance friendly Gold Sold Secure rating. You can be sure your pride and joy is as secure as it can be when you’re at work, at the shops or just popping into the cafe.

The Brute is made from a single piece of hardened 16mm steel with a locking mechanism which is protected against drilling and picking.

To make sure you don’t damage your paintwork the entire lock is rubberised. You also get five keys (one with an LED), so there are plenty of spares if you’re prone to losing things.

How is the previous one diamond rated when thinner? And this thicker one is gold?

They are both diamond. I raised this with OnGuard when I got mine and checked the secure sold site. So they're probably just in the process of updating all distributors etc.

Will it take more than 5 seconds to unlock for the LockPickingLawyer?

No but he's probably not going to steal my bike.

I wonder if there's any point with this thicker version. The standard one is already thick enough to make it almost impervious to anything apart from an angle grinder. And with an angle grinder, the extra thickness would make very little difference. (edited)

Maybe visually it might have an impact and make a thief look at a different bike

What’s the difference between this and yesterdays pit bull lock?

This is 2.8mm thicker, it doesn't sound like a lot but it makes a big difference to the strength.

Great for defending yourself against car drivers

Stop riding like an idiot and you won't need it. I both ride a bike and drive a car (not in the same time...yet) and I've never had an argument with a single cyclist following the road rules. But if you think that the rules don't apply to you because you are better than anybody else on the road then you may actually need this lock when you meet me next time!
Now seriously, most cyclists in Bristol are a different kind of people (?), red lights? Just for the car drivers! Zebra crossings? They won't stop as they don't drive a car so they cannot hurt anybody right? Riding in the middle of the lane when the entire cycle lane is empty? Anytime! Coming from the side road into the main road ignoring 'Give Way' sign? Yeah what's wrong with that? And so on and so forth.

Cycling for many years I've never had an argument with a car driver but it may have something to do with the fact that I actually follow the rules on the road? Just maybe.

On the other hand, while driving I had to do quite few hard breaks and other manouvers to avoid hitting them. The best I got back was a middle finger, then a lot of abuse and finally a couple of confrontations.
Funnily enough none of the Knights on their two wheel horses had a camera on the helmet in oppose to many cyclist following the road rules. But that's just coinicidence I think!

I'm not sure of these locks put an angle ginder through in seconds. I have a Carbon Fibre Electric bike and I'm going for the Litelok. Hell of a lot more expensive but better than a lost £5k bike
