sorted bysaw this on reddit yesterday. lol
No. National Trust tend to restore their places, whereas a lot of English Heritage places are just left as shells. We changed from English Heritage to National Trust and found NT to generally be much better.
National Trust is better but it all depends on your location and if you travel in the UK much. It’s always best to see how many places are near to you or your holiday locations in the UK. No point buying one over the other if there is not much to see near you.
Fully agree. We were near Corfe Castle a couple of years ago with the kids, I forget the prices but it would've been about £40+ quid to look round a load of (admittedly interesting) ruins, I made my excuses and left. (Went up the adjacent hill instead).
I know they need looking after but EH are like a, err, protection racket.
More than 0 children sounds the same!
Thank you so much! I work for a local authority and didn’t even know this was a thing!!
Corfe Castle is National Trust and not English Heritage - And its been left as a ruin for a good reason.... Plus its significantly more amazing as a ruin than if they restored it imo - incredible at sunset
OP / Anyone, do you know if you can use this code/ other discount codes to renew/ if you have been a member in recent X months? (edited)
There are 75 (web) pages of benefits so it is a bit hard to list them all. However their Savings+ benefits (shopping, including 3% to 6% off giftcards useable in major supermarkets) are a bit easier for me to list, which you can download (use button at top right) from here.
You might also want to take a look at this.
Hope it helps somewhat. (edited)
Maybe try CSSC and see how you get on? We used to have National Trust Scotland membership, as it gave us access to all UK properties and was cheaper than English NT membership, but I think they've closed that loophole now.
EH were restricted by not being allowed to borrow money as they were effectively a government department. Those restrictions were eased a couple of years back so they might have improved since then. We're sticking with National Trust, anyway.

Also agree. Had a bad experience once with EH, took the family to a castle (it was a long walk to get to, when got there saw it was expensive for us all to visit/go in so had a peep inside to see if it was worth the money for us (it turned out to be a long perimeter wall with a big field in the middle with notice boards to read hidden behind the ruin of the keep) only to be bellowed at by the man from the ticket office acting like I had just grabbed all the money from the till! Very embarrassing for me and I'm glad to get this off my chest!
On the other hand, have had family membership of NT and it was excellent and well worth the money if you can afford it.
Thanks for spreading.
Yet I remember walking around the Stones on many occasions in the past, stopping off for a break when heading down south... but there was something different back then.
There was no rip-off Britain, it was FREE.
They'll charge you to breathe next.
Yes, for £4.50 a month you get family membership to English Heritage (2 adults and up to 6 children) plus tastecard and lots of other benefits.
I don't think so:-

Tell that to the Radford's.
I'm on 2 and 3 kids itself sounds like insanity
I've looked at the site before and it always comes across as a scammy voucher site. I can't imagine what they're thinking hiding what you get from a paid membership, it's like the shadiest thing you could do.
Even with the PDF list (very thoughtful, thank you) the "Up to" makes it not terribly clear. Is it online purchases or gift cards or both? (edited)
It includes English Heritage sites (with some rare exceptions and not all have free parking), at a considerably lower cost (unless you visit on your own or have more than 6 kids in tow , e.g. £54/£48 concessions vs £83 as indicated by OP), plus numerous other benefits e.g. Kew Garden free for one, free cadw, free tastecard, 3%-6% discount shopping via gift cards at most supermarkets etc. etc. - you can see which one at what % in my previously linked list.
There are 11 (web) pages of kids/family days out offers but the the ones I looked up all said to be unavailble at the moment (presumably closed due to covid). (edited)
Haven't/can't checked all of them, but e.g. Sainsburys gift cards on offer are at 6% discount, with the following terms:

As a foreigner I am really confused
CSSC entitles a member to bring one (any)other adult and up to 6 (random) children for free to relevant EH sites. The additional adult can be one's parent or a neighbour etc.
CSSC Membership is on an individual basis - nobody says it is a family membership.
But think this might work - have your husband join on a monthly fee basis, once he has joined, use his (6) linked membership allocation to invite you as a linked member and once you are a linked member he can drop his membership and tag along with you on visits. You as a linked member enjoy the same benefits as a full member and can invite other linked members after a year.
Alternatively find a full member who is happy to invite you as a linked member on day one, and not bothering with your husband joining at all.
Thank you. I'm going to give this a go
Think whether one wants to join does depend on whether one has got any relevant visit/benefit in mind, and when. If for example one had wanted to visit Kew Gardens today with a friend, e.g., over 6 months worth of CSSC membership fee would have been recouped.
I found a 25% code on their own website, i posted it here: hotukdeals.com/vou…303
