I just added them to my 'Do not post' list. Hate when this price increase is happening...

If you are wanting global, rather than precision screen-guided hyper-local, finding then you’ll get equal performance at a lower price (half?) from one of the licensed FindMy compatible tags.
Since Apple’s tags have no means of attachment, you’ll need to budget for some sort of holder if you want to have one on your keyring, dog, bike, whatever.

Tags from Chipolo (“Spot”), Atuvos and Eufy work nicely with Apple’s FindMy apps.
They also offer holes for keyring-type attachment, some versions are designed in credit card format.
But if you have an iPhone11 or later (ie with the U1 uwb chip, so it can do “precision finding”) then you’ll need an Apple branded tag to use that facility. Note that a thief (or a stalked person) can now use precision finding to locate a hidden tag - thanks Apple!
The compatibles also lack idiot proof nfc-based pairing/setup. (RTFM!)

I’m thinking my Atuvos one might be a bit battery-hungry. The Eufy one is too new to tell.

Put one of these on my cat, collar fell off and now I can’t find it. Always says last seen x minutes ago, I know it’s close as I get a notification it’s been left behind when I drive off. Very disappointing

The quieter the environment, the further away you can locate it by commanding it to bleep.
So pick a really quiet time, and then working area by area, make it chirp and listen hard. If you can only hear it from 3 metres away, that’s the sort of distance you need to move before alarming it again. Yes, it will be muffled by a cushion on top, but should still be audio detectable. Being somewhere within Bluetooth range, it shouldn’t take long to find.
Either that, or put an iPhone11 or later on your Apple ID…

My experience is that silicone AirTag holders tend to muffle the sound slightly, which makes the no holder (so no muffling) compatibles slightly louder in practice.

Lmao he’s put the price back down to £99.99 now that the deal has ended. What a scumbag.
