It is the batteries in the airpods themselves which have degraded so much within 2 years that they are almost unusable. There is no option to replace the batteries because they are built into the unit £130 for disposable headphones !!

Yes, pointless spending many hundreds of pounds on an iPhone to then cheap out on a non-MFi charging cable. The standard official Apple ones are thin and not very robust or hardwearing. Anker and Unbreakcable are the only two third-party ones I’ve used and would recommend. Braided ones which are far more hardwearing.

metalheadkicks

I haven't even touched the topic of chargers, that's a separate (but important) issue altogether. You may have the worlds best Apple charger, but if you plug uncertified wire, Apple reduces the charge speed of the phone before power is delivered from the USB socket. To reiterate, all I want is the default speed of charging whatever it is from Apple. Maybe 1A or 5A, I dont know. All I know is when non-Apple-Tax-Paid wire is used, the phones pretends to only draw 100mA from the USB socket.

cheekster

iPhone 8 onwards support fast charging. Official Apple Support Page - Fast Charging

pedrolami

iPhone 11 comes with fast charging. The 11 has a 5w adaptor but the pro and pro max have an 18w charger. The higher power charger is USB-C, you just get a cable from that to lightning instead.

cheekster

AFAIK the only way of fast charging an iPhone (models iPhone 8 onwards) is by using a USB-C to Lightning cable plus a USB-C 18W Power Delivery wall charger or powerbank. Sure, some other charging technologies ‘claim’ to charge faster than a standard Apple mains charger but I’ve not read any reports that any of them significantly reduce the charging times. iPhones don’t support Qualcomm QuickCharge for example whereas lots of Android devices do. Just something to bear in mind.

ibz100

5 years? I go through multiple Anker cables in a matter of months just charging my phone on my bedside table. They must have really dropped off in quality since you bought your original one. I guess it's inevitable. Make a brand name and then cheap out to increase your margins.

They’ll do slightly faster charging using the iPad charger but your correct. Officially they need the USB C PD Charger and appropriate cable for true fact charging on an iPhone.

Literally never had this issue with Anker Cables (USB A or USB C). As someone else mentioned contact them and they’ll send another.

Not bad for a cable which is built to last. Great price considering there's a lifetime warranty .
Notanotherdeal

Just picked up a white one as well (y) . Cheers OP for signposting this.

Libertas

They might work. The real question is about the quality. Many apple devices cost £100 upwards. Now, whilst I have never personally heard of a poor cable causing damage to any apple device, it's not outside the realms of possibility. For an asset that cost so much, why take the risk with a questionable cable or charger. Lets be honest, if a substandard cable or charger happened to be responsible for damage to one of our devices, how many of us would go through the full legal recourse required to get fair compensation? Its about risk mitigation. I accept I could be wrong - so open to constructive criticism. P.S: Oh and these last ages. They are robust.

Am I the only person that gets on fine with these from Poundland?

(embarrassed) XD :D 😁 sorry mate I was just being sarcastic. Can't get my head around why ppl would pay 200+ for a pair of headphones. 70% of price you pay for the brand. Also I can bet the bottom dollar 70% of ppl won't know the difference, a bit like blind tasting food or wine, which is a fact

r0naldmacd0nald

I paid £224 using a debit card. It’s very easy. Most sites let you use a debit card, typically inputting the long number across the middle of the card, the expiry date and 3 digit number of the back of the card. I hear some sites may even let you use PayPal. All very, very easy.

I have loved having these however I lost one in the drink recently. Since I can't bear paying this price again ,I went with these, which are very good and I am happy enough at the price point, however they block out too much sound being in ear and I don't feel safe walking in town amongst traffic.
