Why don't we just post links to illegal downloads of these programs, then there would be no need to lie about being students?

Could have done with this a few years back when I was still a student using these programmes.

Would like to use one of them programmes again just to practice what I learnt before, but what are you putting when you register?

Fine that it doesn't need an educational email address but it does ask for name and date of birth. It also asks for region and school city and name which I assume must be entered to register?

There is an option for home schooling, if you choose that, it does not matter whether you put student or teacher but all boxes have to be filled

    Ah.

It says you must be able to provide proof of enrolment/status. Probably unlikely they'll check, although if a lot of people on here start signing up as home schooled they may well look into it and if you're providing all real details (or even if they can just find out by IP address) there's no proof if you're not a student/teacher.

The programme I want to use is thousands of pounds to buy. Not sure I want to risk saying I'm home schooled.

Quite a few of their apps free on the AppStore too! Just a heads up, dunno if they've been free all the time or not.

You can use 3DS Max to export your 3D Models as .stl files, which are supported by several 3D printers and 3D Printing services.
I believe you can also get models exported as .stl from Maya, but only after installing an externally available plug-in.

I work as an Network Administrator in a secondary school and I applied for network licences for all this software and got it. 125 site licences governed by a licence manager application running on one of our servers.

Pretty much every latest Auto desk software. For free!

I'm of the same opinion, we can't port torrents - this really isn't any better for non-students. It's the companies mistake for not requiring an education e-mail address but that doesn't make it legal and there's not guarantee they won't try to track down those who abuse it. Each application is worth hundreds or thousands of pounds, it'd be in their interest to do so.

Don't know how long ago you were a student, but they've been offering free access to the entire Autodesk collection (education, non-commercial use of course) since late 2009, possibly before, but that was when I activated my account with them.

I work in the engineering industry and use this at work (the full versions, obviously) and when I got the 2013 student version for home through this scheme, it plots everything with student version watermarks round the borders, which is a bit of a pain if you don't know how to get rid of them Not sure if they're still doing that, just a heads up though.

2008-2010 I was a student and needing Autodesk. I had to make do with trials. I searched the offical Autodesk site, googled how I could get the programmes free (legally) and I tried various searches, asked on forums and all sorts. Even the teachers sort of hinted at torrents. At no point did I find a link to get free access to the collection

I believe that the student versions put a watermark on any files or printouts - fine for learning but not intended for commercial use

Student version of autocad prints watermark around the border. Great way to learn the software though. Autocad very sick on a mac

Autodesk is rubbish hence they have to give it away now... people realise SolidWorks is the package to use for design and not Inventor/Autocad
