I have a Pany 50" Plasma and a Sony KDL46HX803 (46"LED 3D), the Pany is in my man cave for gaming and a second PC screen, both are used for PS3 and HD contect.

The difference between the 2 is minimal in terms of picture quality TBH, the Pany has a deeper uniform black and and the Sony, due to LED tech, its black isn't true. This makes very little difference when actually watching anything. The Pany isnt as nice to look at as the Sony IMO but again this makes no difference to actual veiwing. The Sony screen is a bit reflective but its not a big problem even with us mounted opposite our main living room window. For gaming the Pany is a bit more responsive in tests but again in reality, its hard to tell the difference at all. Both are 3D and IMO both exactly the same, I dont particularly like 3D either, I find it a gimmic for most titles and have yet to watch a full footie match in it.

If you wanna buy a TV go and see one in person, everyone is different and have different things they look for in a TV. Get the remote and have a play about and adjust settings before you buy.

Pay a bit more and get the HX,much better, especially if you are wanting to use it for 3D viewing

I've had this TV for a while (without the soundbar stand) and paid a fair bit more than this for it. It is brilliant and all my mates comment on how good the picture is. It does have iPlayer built in as well as 5FWD (for what it's worth). Every media file that I can play/watch on my PS3 will play on the TV via my DLNA/UPnP server.

I can't comment on 3D, as never bought the additional 3D sync transmitter. But I think if you're looking for a 3D TV, you're probably better off getting something else.

Sony with Bravia Engine is much better than any Panasonic Plasma. End of story. Motionflow is truly remarkable technology that makes you feel part of the motion picture. At this price you'd be insane not to buy into the Sony family of home entertainment products. HOT! HOT! HOT!

Also, not too fussed about the sound bar as I have a 5.1 system anyway

Check out whathif.com, Panasonic win's best buy awards for sub 32", premium 40-42", 46-47", 50-52" and 52"+. We weighed up Sony v Samsung v Panasonic. Sony and Samsung Tv's look better but picture quality Panasonic wins hands down. We purchased the Panasonic TXP55VT30 last week and so far no regrets.

I have just got this TV.

£699 on Easter Monday at Comet, Got John Lewis to price match with 5 year guarantee.
Internet content is very sparse compared to Samsung & LG but Iplayer/Youtube and 5OD are good. Not tried the 3D yet.

Oh one more thing, as most TV content is in SD I would ask to see SD on a set you are looking to buy, that is one thing I would say the Sony truphs my Pany, its reproduction of SD broadcasting is fantastic IMO.

I didn't price match, that was the deal. I think effectively, £100 extra for a bluray player and 5yrs guarantee is worth the punt don't you? plus if you look at the link for this product on this page, they are doing 5yrs guarantee for around an extra £265....so you could say i saved myself quite a bit of money. thanks

Motionflow XR 200 is not 200hz, it's 100hz, they are playing around with numbers... Also the 3D will probably be comparable to the KDL40EX723, might be worth reading the following review.

    hdtvtest.co.uk/new…htm

Also I seem to remember the ex723 being about £500 on Amazon a while ago (haven't checked any prices of any tvs recently), so what is so good about this one to pay another £200 on top other than 6" and a soundbar stand?

Edit: oh found it. £500 for this alternative instead.

If you have that sort of money to hand then go get some demos arranged and do check out the Panasonic P46GT50 and Sony KDL46HX823, you will need to talk to an independeant retailer and probably not the Comet/Currys/Dixons shops. If I were spending this much I would buy what I liked the look of and not what has the best numbers/fanboys

i quite like the frameless look...you see we just use it as a tv,,no skype or even dvd..and movies? well an occasional kids one! so i dont think we need to pay for hi res etc...i just want a nice TV sounds good and looks good (cos i prefer it switched off!)

anyway its not on tonight so i got my wish! thanks for all your help will start a renewed search soon as we can get free time to go look round xx

The HX723 is a much better TV then the EX724/3. Fact. We have them side by side in my Sony Centre and the HX723 is better in regards to colour, contrast, definition etc etc. Model is discontinued and stock is limited, places like JL won't get anymore. Display and refurbs only. HX753 is the replacement. Glasses are the same, although 3 - 4 weeks there will be more for the demand of the B1G1F offer that is running as Sony's promo at the moment.

Use the CT550W if you want a wall mounting speaker bar. TV weighs around 17KG

As for the rest of the pointless comments I shall leave you alone

Well decided to go for this model from Costco.
I just sold my kdl-40w4000. My older set wipes the floor with the NX723. Very disappointing, fortunately I am able to return the set which is what I shall be doing.
    Will try the HX823 next.
