These are decent and well worth the money. One thing to be aware of is how the front light charges - it's a male usb behind the rubber cover so unless you can plug it straight into your charger you'll need a cable with a female end to charge it.

I've been using these for 2 or 3 years and hey happy with them. Can't be sure on battery life but I'd say in winter I got about 2 weeks from a charge, 15 min commute 5 days a week. I don't think I was using full brightness though.

Rear has a mounting clip so easily unclipped to charge, front the whole thing needs to come off but it's just a rubber strap.

I would say the rear didn't give much warning of low battery, a couple of times I found it was fine when I left work and had gone off by the time I got home, so I just made sure to charge it at the same time as the front one (which does give plenty of warning) and been ok with that.

I have this set of lights. Front light is bright enough for cycling through a dark unlit park. The usb connection on the front is a bit odd but I always manage to find a charger that it will fit. They fit onto your bike with rubber straps which are easy to remove and put on again. Both lights have different brightness settings and at the top setting they are really bright. I'd definitely recommend. Would get another set but there's nothing wrong with the ones I have. They will probably last several years. (edited)

I bought these last time around. Rear light is great and holds its charge for ages.

I found the front light would lose charge if I didn't use it for a week, so without regular use I pretty much needed to charge it every time I used it. Hence it sitting in a drawer.

They seem to last quite a while though I tend to keep mine topped up with frequent charging to be on the safe side. The front light is hand as a handheld torch and is very bright.

They're not perfect but they certainly satisfy my requirements and I have yet to experience issues quoted in some of the reviews. Comes with a 2 year mnufactuer warranty & also sold & fulfilled by Amazon, so shouldn't be any problems if anything is defective. I doubt they quite live up to their 1200 lumens claim, so we're in the same camp there, but not many of these things do.

Context of "trawling" in prev comment = Amazon's poor search engine where addition of random characters to search string can return additional & usually lower priced comparable items.

I'd say I really like them compared to some others as the strap is built into the light, so easy to mount/remove and no change of losing the strap. What happened to yours / how did it break?

Both snapped. The rubber deteriorates over time.
The fact the straps are attached means every time you mount the light you're stressing the strap.
A much better solution is with brackets that stay on the bike. A set of Cateye lights is three times more expensive. But they are substantially better in terms of beam shape, modes and battery life and will last longer.
Halfords brand Bikehut lights are also worth a look. Especially when on offer.

You do know we left don’t you and the UK had already moved to the Consumers Rights Act in 2015 well before that.

I returned a defective £200 electronic item in June which was purchased early in November 2020 with no problems at all, for a full refund. Prior to that an item developed a fault after 10 months of ownership in 2018. Again Amazon accepted the return and gave a full refund, no quibbles. I've yet to experience the 6 month pass off that's been referenced.

Thanks, yes I know of the Consumer Rights Act 2015. I was just lamenting that in Europe they get a full 2 year no fault warranty.
Wouldn't it have been nice to have that here too......

There we’re lots left on the shelf in the far right hand comer of the store, near the wine And opposite where the nappies and baby wipes are I think.

Mention of apparently attractive warranty is likely just to attract sales to potential victims of marketing drivel, where warranty servicing requires the potential victim (buyer) to unfeasibly return item to untraceable manufacturer outside UK.

    What the rear light lumens?

Based on this thread, best estimates/informed guessses - 25 lumens (if you ask Aldi via Twitter) and if the rear is also potentially a copy of the Lezyne Micro Drive 600XL set, then 30 lumens.

They are a decent set of lights for occasional use.
For running them every day I would say they are a poor choice. Better invest in something more sturdy. The light itself is fine but the mounting mechanism isn't very solid. Both fell apart after a few months of regular use.
  33. CatsWithThumbs's avatar

I guess another negative of the rubber strap on the front one is having to adjust it every time I attach so it's pointing the right direction, not too high/low. I was worried about their durability but they have held up ok so far after 2/3 years.

The rear does have a mounting clip so does seem an odd choice not to have the same fit the front. (edited)

The bikehut 1600 is excellent light to see with on unlit paths, just got 2 of Aldi and very good value too.

Think getting another 2 tomorrow when in store, buy also want another 1600.. decision

Seems wrong just to have 1 light on bike

Just picked these up as I want to start commuting. Noway it's 600lumens, comparing to my high end flashlights i'd guess approx 300-400 lumens at best. If you do some napkin math on the battery capacity and battery life and assume a XP-G2 LED. Then you're looking at 250-350 lumens depending on the bin (probably somewhere in the middle)

Still plenty bright for my commute on mostly lit cycle paths, will see how the mounts hold up. (edited)

It's not always together, certainly the bigger stuff like the assembly/maintenance stand will often be separate at the end of an aisle, but this time even the smaller bit were spread out, had to hunt a bit to find them. Worth checking in with someone in store though as wouldn't be surprised for some bits to be delayed. Hope your next trip goes better.
