Is this worth an upgrade over the first gen?

I don't see any difference in the 1st and 3rd Gen cameras i have so for me it's a no. The quality on both of mine are about the same.

Does this let you live view and record at the same time? Had the mini which would stop recording when viewing live and then have to turn on recording again.

Is there a subscription required for these?
    jordanc93's avatar
Yes if you want to record. If you just want motion alerts and live view it's free.

They knew they had to add the hardware privacy cover after they were caught red handed spying on their own customers.

Why all the anti ring rubbish. The spying stuff was back in 2017 prior to amazon purchasing the company and policy changes not long after that mean customers now have to give consent for ring staff to access videos. I can understand them adding a privacy cover to this as default as they are aimed to be installed inside your home. The stuff about spying has only been in the press lately as the FTC has only just got around to pursing ring for it in court. (edited)

If I have already pay for the subscription for my ring door bell, do I need to have a separate subscription for this camera or can it piggy back off my other subscription?
    jordanc93's avatar
i assume your paying for the basic subscription which is £3.49 a month or £35 a year? if so that subscription only covers your doorbell. You can either opt to pay another £3.49/£35 and cover the camera with a basic plan or upgrade to the plus plan which is £8 a month or £80 a year and allows unlimited ring devices as well offering lifetime warranty for your device as long as you stay subscribed.

Ordering the two camera pack brings the unit price down even further.

Buying more brings down the price per unit?

Isn't that pretty much expected from almost all consumer goods?

I've been read and watched a couple of comparisons between the 1st and 2nd gen Indoor Cameras and the only noticeable difference is the privacy cover. I'd just get the 1st gen.
