About this deal
This deal is expired. Here are some options that might interest you:
Just had an email from Amazon telling me that the Prime Instant Video app will stop working on 14/9/15 for Samsung TVs from 2011, known as D-series and as a subscribing customer they have offered a unique discount code for an Amazon Fire TV box. The TV I have is a Samsung 40D6100 so if anyone else uses the app on a TV from the same year then they may also have had an email. Hope this helps some people

sorted bySo I pay for prime TV, then they take it away and ask for 39 squids to get it back. They can sit on it and swivel s far as I'm concerned. I hope the person I speak to tomorrow isn't too sensitive because I am cancelling and want a proportional refund plus interest.
This is not a deal is a con of the first degree.
I have put some ice cubes into the pot
So you want to be rude to an Amazon representative solely because Samsung TVs won't support an Amazon App?
As an owner of a 51D8000, 2011 top of the range model. Getting a far better smart TV solution for £40 is a revelation. As the built in services suck.
Be grateful rather than miserable.
So its Amazon's fault n not Samsung's then?
Great logic....
Double the RAM, Ethernet port, optical out and possibly, at a push, the voice remote.
When you're currently discussing a +£4 difference, the Fire TV outweighs the Fire TV Stick.
Totally agree, it's also pretty reasonable for Amazon to try and keep customers offering this
imagine if you only bought one of those TVs in a sale in 2012/3 and this happens would you not feel short changed?
it appears that amazon are helping but in reality its all just one merry go round and customers are the ones to pay.
maybe with the advent of android TV's this wont happen as often if they all use the same software but i cant see that happening, there's no money in making anything last
don't get me wrong, these devices are great if you don't have smart TVs but i just wish manufacturers would stick by customers a little longer than they do and maybe then we wouldn't have some much working tech being taken to the tip. i don't think 3 or 4 years is enough support as that could be less depending on when purchased, even Dyson give you 5 years on a hoover???
Sure, here it is
Hello,
We're writing to inform you that the Amazon Video app will no longer be available on your Samsung 2011 TV/Blu-rayafter midnight on 14th September, 2015. We are sorry for any inconvenience that this may cause. BBC stopped supporting old tvs ages ago it's hard to support aged tech
And in fairness to Amazon, it was LGs fault as they were responsible for supporting the app and had decided not to. So yes I kind of do think this is a good deal because at least Amazon are recognising a problem here.

You can only support old technology for so long. I think 4 years is a pretty good show to be honest. I have a 2012 Samsung TV and the Netflix app has been useless since I've had it because it doesn't support profiles.
At least Amazon are making a pretty great gesture here. All of the other content providers that have changed technologies and just killed support for devices haven't done anything of the sort. PLUS you are getting a much improved interface and experience with the Fire TV, the Amazon Prime app on Samsung TVs is painful.

That is strange, When they stopped supporting my LG player in 2013 I was sent a discount code which enabled me to get a Sony Blu ray player from Amazon for free. Did you maybe miss the email? I sold the Sony as my LG still continued to work with Amazon prime. I to received the email yesterday giving me a half price Fire TV.
Or just, you know, use them and save a few quid at the same time..

The exact same thing will happen with Android tvs. Realistically you can't use a 3-4 year old Android phone anymore without it running frustratingly slow. Best option is always a separate box like the Fire TV as very cheap to update to a newer model. Whilst yes it is always extra money for Amazon at least they open the Fire TV and stick up to other apps like Netflix, BBC iplayer etc. Compared with the cost of a tv £30-£40 every few years for a new "smart" box isn't too bad.
If Amazon did continue app support for older smart tvs then it damage their own reputation as people would be using an old slow frustrating system and blaming them for it when in fact it's the tv that's the issue.
I bought a 59D6900 in 2011 and it's an amazing TV, worth every penny, but I've barely used any of the smart features. If you don't have a set-top box/game console with all the apps you want then things like the Fire devices will give a far better experience than even a brand new Smart TV let alone one that's 4 years old.
I just hope that if I log into the app now on my TV I'll get an email, I've been fancying a Fire TV for Kodi for a while!
That is the dual core stick not the quad core box
I've just emailed them, let's see what they say.
Hi mate,
i got a reply back... because I didn't register on their application before the 19th August they won't provide a code. It was worth a try. I did reply back appealing this as when I downloaded the application on my TV, it was showing an error message anyway... so let's see what they say. I have since then ordered the Fire Stick as a back up.
Hi mate,
I put my point across that i couldn't register the app on my TV because of this error message (even sent them a photo of my tv with that error message). Today I've found out they have honoured me the discount (50%) and replaced my stick with the FireTV box (and paid the difference obviously).
On this note, I like to thank Luckyshopper99 for the email help too.
Good luck normal, hope it works out for you too.

Hope someone is able to make use
Luckily I had done this with all my "trial" Prime accounts hence all the codes I had. Anyone with one of these Samsungs will know what a pain having to enter new log in details was each month when each Prime trial ended! It was almost worth signing up and paying for Prime just for that reason alone!
Thank you!
I can't understand why even with the discount, you'd want the fire instead of the fire stick though. Better and cheaper
True
Having done work on the field of App development more often than not the reason for ending support on the device is due to the manufacturer either stopping supporting the app platform on that generation of device or giving it less of priority which can make pushing required updates difficult to do as they often need the manufacturer to do it and everyone is focused on handling tasks for the newer platforms.
When it is the services choice it's then either a case of the device being unable to support a change usually due to being underpowered (often due to new requirements from the content providers with these kinds of apps) or they have noticed most of the users on that platform have migrated away from that platform (be it getting a new TV or getting an additional device that handles it faster and better) so the time spent supporting the platform for so few users isn't worth it, it's more cost effective to give them a free or subsidised device (in the past for example when some Bluray players stopped being supported they handed out free new Bluray players to customers)
**edit** If anyone has a spare code That they don't want to use I would be happy to take it. Been thinking about getting a second one for my other TV but at full price it's a little too much. I tried the stick which was fine but I had audio lag so had to return it. I need the optical connection of the box which solves it
(edited)
Yeah. I got the email and I'm buying the box and selling my stick. The specs are way better on the box. Why would you not??
