Dewfinately go for the 16 inch model, I have both of them sitting here and it makes a hell of a difference.

It all depends on how it is used, isn't it? If portability is the priority, then the smaller one wins.

I have this very spec and it’s a beast of a laptop. It’s amazing for any kind of work. Nothing seems to slow it down. For that price it’s a steal

do you use things like vmware, parallels and dual boot kind of virtual machine kind of linux/windows use with?

It was cheaper earlier this year. No time machine but surely price will drop further to clear stock

    Wasn’t that the 512GB? I thought the 1TB was £1399
    last time aswell?

the 1TB SSD on one of these is the deal maker here, for anyone interested.

It's years old and there's M4 on the horizon, but when we first went from Intel to M1, that jump was huge. This thing will be a powerhouse for creatives; running stuff like Davinci Resolve or Adobe AE barely breaking a sweat and long battery life. It is more nuanced than 'M1 is nearly three generations ago'. This jump was gigantic.

I am tempted by this, to upgrade my M1 Air 256GB, but I am planning to go all-in at the next M4 series; strictly because I want to run local LLMs (like llama3) to make next gen software, and I want to run full powered nanite and lumen in Unreal Engine 5. In these two cases, at least, the M4 will blow away this M1... but for web, email, 4K editing, motion graphics, photoshop etc - I don't think M1 vs M3 (or 4) matters as much as some say. For anyone not doing specific tasks that benefit hugely from recent upgrades, I don't think any other laptop is better value than M1 series Macbooks with decent storage. (edited)

Got M1 few months back, was an upgrade from 16” intel and it’s incredible for normal day to day use. I also tried Final Cut recently and it’s lightning fast. If you’re waiting for M4 id suggest go with pro models. Air up until now hasn’t come with fans and my research suggest it throttles when put under stress. Pro no doubt is heavy but performance is just unbelievable compared to Intel Macs. Best decision I made going with M1 Mac, specially 16”.

Tempted but I think I’d need this to be cheaper to get one with a processor from two generations ago.

    Old CPU. Especially for £1400.

It's not a slow machine by any means, I have a 16" and it's great, but I would expect 3-4yo tech to be under a grand now.

16 gbyte ram, can I believe my eyes?

    This or M3 16gb 512gb air?
    Solee's avatar
If you really want to go with Apple then the M3.

I’m guessing the 16” at the price in the title is the 512gb model? (edited)
    BaelinTheFisherman's avatar
yes and also not the greatest price, they had them up for 1299 before
  11. crack_shot's avatar
I would wait for the tandem oled version which is probably months away
    greenant's avatar
Expect they’ll be good but add £1000 to this deal.

still trying to find out how the actual improve it will be from M1 to M4.
like, in practice, how faster will Davinci Resolve render a 10 minute 1080p video on a M4 iPad Pro comparing with a M1 iPad Pro?
  13. graham_tod's avatar
Yes this is a lot for an m1 got m2 for same refurb from curry’s 7 months ago. Not being critical just better deals out there for a m2 pro 14

Got the 16” model with Costco in December. If you’re in two minds pull the trigger, you won’t regret it. Best machine I’ve had in a very long time.
