'This book goes to the heart of the relationship between food and identity, and conveys a sense of belonging through beautiful, compelling and, yes, joyous recipes. I just want to eat everything in it.' -- Nigella Lawson

'Joudie Kalla looks homeward for inspiration … ‘I want to pay homage,’ she writes, ‘to the Palestine that my family knew and remembers.’ And that’s exactly what this book does so gracefully.' -- The New York Times on Palestine on a Plate

'Joudie's cooking is fresh, zingy and full of flavour... BALADI is a real stunner and I cannot recommend it highly enough' ― The London Foodie

'Joudie Kalla takes the reader on a compelling and delicious culinary journey through Palestine. A much-needed compilation of hitherto undocumented Palestinian family recipes—an ode to Palestine’s rich culinary
heritage.' -- Laila El-Haddad, author of The Gaza Kitchen

'I'm super excited to cook more from it!' ― Symmetrybreakfast

'An important cuisine and culinary tradition that needs to be understood, celebrated, and enjoyed.' -- Anthony Bourdain

The Times Food Book of the Year 2018: “I have given this book to everyone I can think of who is remotely interested in cooking. Most of us are now comfortable dabbling in a Middle Eastern recipe or ingredient, even if that’s just sprinkling pomegranate seeds on everything. But we probably wouldn’t think of looking to Palestine for inspiration. Well, you must. Every recipe I’ve tried has blown me away. Even something as simple as fried aubergines with tahini and honey is mouthwateringly good.” -- Harriet Addison ― The Times Published On: 2018-12-01

'Once again Joudie puts Palestine on the map so beautifully by celebrating the breadth and depth of our cuisine—making Palestinians everywhere proud. This important book is a visual and culinary feast that preserves our history and cultural identity.' -- Reem Assil, chef-owner of Reem’s California and Dyafa

I ate once at a Palestinian restaurant and I can say it's one of the best meals I've ever had!

    Palestine is so beautiful.

I travelled just before Covid. Did all sites and went to Bethlehem and up Mount temple. Spoke to local Christians who were happy to greet a group of Muslims from UK. They said the Christians and Muslims live like brothers there with mutual respect and love.

We've got the original book from this author. Some great recipes.

If anyone hasn't tried Palestinian food you should, it's delicious. 🍉

I haven't but this has certainly peaked my interest. I'd love to go to Palestine one day and taste their authentic food.

Another example of promoting political agenda. Culinary books are usually free on hotukdeals and still don't get that much artificial heat. It's a Mediterranean food with name variations, have any of you purchased this book?

    Lovely - thank you!

Does anyone know if the recipes require a lot of obscure ingredients or can most be easily sourced in the UK?
    fahed2000's avatar
It's authentic Mediterranean food. So most supermarkets would have everything you need; Inc Waitrose and Sainsbury's

Palestinian food is so tasty. There's not much that isn't made better by a sprinkle of zaatar 😋

Tell that to Nigella and Gordon that have the best selling cookbook . It's not for everyone, but I definitely appreciate a good cookbook. The internet has plenty of recipes and Amazon is filled already with free AI generated cookbooks from the land to the sea. As one of my Japanese friends says "Omakase" you have to trust the chef
