How does this compare to the firestick? I have Amazon Prime and Youtube premium and watch a lot of it. I like that this has a dedicated Youtube button on it. I just mainly watch ad-free Youtube. If the Firestick is better however I'll go for that.

This is definitely better. It's a lot cleaner interface. Amazon stick is filled prime stuff and recommendations.

It's probably not get one if you've already got the latest Amazon stick better though. (edited)

Same price direct from Google also

Yep probably going to pull the trigger on the 4K. Only price I've seen less recently is a couple of quid less for one with a US plug on eBay

It's never been as cheap as this, RRP is £60 and the lowest I've seen it was £45. Genuinely good price point, go for it I've got two of them

i have a few chromecasts, 1st gen and 2nd and find that when using certain platforms to stream it cuts out intermittently, is that the chromecast or my device I stream to?

i.e. when I stream plex / chrome screen from my laptop it's not really consistent

Anyone know if Chromecast 4k or Firestick 4k is better for streaming Saturday 3pm EPL games?

Wouldn't recommend this. It's slow, you essentially cant put custom launchers on this (green privacy dot persists for some reason), you can't remap buttons (again same problem), you get loads of adverts for services you've opted out of like paramount and prime, Plex transcodes basically everything. So little ram if you accidentally sit on the remote you have to reload Plex from the start.

Just get a knock off box or save for something better like a shield

I have HD one.The UI is very glitchy and bit of a mess and when playing 1080p can some times see the picture slow down.

Firestick 4K to over this (edited)

If I buy the 4K one, but occasionally want to use it on a TV that's only capable of 1080p, will it work?

    Yep

Is there a difference in UI responsiveness between the HD and the 4K? I will only be using it on a HD projector.

Been able to just use your voice to search and type is far better than Alexa. Put a custom launcher on and your laughing. There is a paid app for virtual mouse works perfectly, can't remember the name. Had it since launch on a 1080 projector. Will upgrade to 4k projector once 5g in area as I've unlimited data. It is skip android version on next update apparently. Has had a recent update too

Yep. I regret buying a new firestick, as they are locking them down and making it as hard as possible to install third party software (aka custom launcher).

I do however, prefer the firestick remote. The volume buttons on Chromecast are, imo and pain in the bum to use.

My 4K is super quick and smooth with all the latest updates, I also have an IPTV app installed and that runs like a dream...you might of had a dodgy unit.

My TV has frequent WiFi dropouts, so I gave up and just do this and it's absolutely fine. Does the job.

Is it easy to install apks on this, or is it a sideloading situation? I basically require SmartTube and Cloudstream etc. Is it fully useable without a smartphone? (edited)

I have the 2nd Gen, has anyone any experience how much better this HD newer version performs? If at all
