I've been on the lookout for a bargain 29er with a decentish spec for getting out on the trails and this seems to fit the bill.

Got to admit I'm no expert but the spec looks better than any others I've seen in the sub £400 mark. The XCM 30 is better than the XCE 28 you see on most bikes in this price range. Also I like the 1x gearing, Shimano all round and Alivio rear mech seems nice at this price point.

Aye, seems a lot of bike for the money. I ordered one tonight before I posted it on here - looking forward to getting it! They have a few other colours and sizes and also a couple of 2x9 versions in stock too.

You can even choose your size, huh.
When I was a kid you get only what you get, lol.

Hi all. I am new to the biking world and was wondering if someone can guide me please. I need a bike to be able to take my son out cycling. I have already bought him a MTB from Smyths. I need a bike for myself and was unsure if getting this will be better than the GT Agressor. I am 6ft 1 and not sure what size I should be getting. Also, looking at this particular one, it shows a 17in and 19in, both have 29inch wheels. What is the difference? Also, just to give an idea of my use, I live close to a nature reseve park, so will be using 50% offroad and 50% on public roads/tarmac cycling lanes. You help will be highly appreciated.

    Thanks

At 6ft 1 you would generally need a L or XL depending on the brand and bike geometry. For this particular bike the 19" would fit but the 21" (not stocked) would also have been ok depening on how you intend to ride. There is a sizing guide on the product page and most good website will have a sizing guide for each bike or brand.

This bike is a mountain bike and really designed for trails like you might find in a woods or forest. It is not ideal for public roads or footpaths - it will be obviously be ok but there are better options for those types of riding for both comfort and effort.

I am not sure what you mean by "offroad" locally to you, but if you mean tow paths etc then In your position I would probably consider a hybrid (not a gravel bike), and depending on budget I would look at second hand as there is a lot of value in second hand bikes. I have a hybrid, a road bike, a folding bike and now this mountain bike. This mountain bike is the only one I have bought new. The hybrid gets used the most because it is just so versatile, very comfortable, and is especially good for those family rides out.

Hope this helps a bit. Enjoy your cycling with your boy!

I'm thinking of getting a bike to..only 5ft 7 though..so what size is good.? This looks spot on and reviews are good?

In this bike the 17" frame would fit you best. There is sizing info on the page. You could drop down to the 15" if you want a very sporty feel, but I would probably not recommend it.

Worth noting I have received mine and rear mech is Altus not Alivio. Bit of a bummer but not a deal breaker.

How much do you think it weighs?
