To cycle in or just everyday wear?

to cycle in (got flat pedals) - the soles are very stiff, you can walk in them, but they aren't exactly quiet due to the hard compound...

as my pedals have metal spikes in them and they've ripped the soles of normal trainers, so hoping these will last a lot longer

    Bike shoes without cleats?

Yes for real bikers. Not the kind who shave their legs.

Same. I use them with flats and was pleased by how much difference the extra grip makes.

Handy to know thanks, yes I occasionally ride my mountain bike in trainers with fairly soft soles, tougher ones make a lot of sense.. My pedals are also pretty spiky!

Been looking for some of these after reading good reviews, ordered these for my leisure cycling.

Definitely recommend Five Ten's for MTB, the soles work great with the sharp pins on flat pedals. Very robust.

Love Five Tens and in my experience they last for ages. I've had 3 pairs in 10 years. I've never had a slip in mine and I've used DMRs and Saint pedals in that time. Id buy these in an instant if I didn't have about 3000 miles of wear left in my Maltese Falcons.

Agreed, quality has dropped since Adidas took over

My previous ones were adidas made too. They’ve been adidas for quite some time now, they just make a bigger deal of it these days.

For years I rode using any flat soled trainers thinking Five Ten's were just a gimmick but they are brilliant. Grip to the pedals like glue, i wouldn't wear anything else now.

One thing to note if they get soaked which is often the case in the UK they can take a while to dry out. I plan on buying a waterproof pair for the very wet/muddy winter months.

Why would you clip in on a mtb? Genuine question, I don't get it. Last thing I would want is to be attached to the bike when I'm flying through the air or headed straight for a tree at full speed. I run spd on my road bike, prefer the shoes than with spd-sl pedals but see no benefit in them for doing mtb. Each to their own though I just wondered. If it's just attaching them a 'mountain bike' and cycling along then that's different, would class that the same as a road bike.

Five Ten's with a set of V12's and I'm on my way down the hill as fast as I can.

I really enjoy riding clipless on mtb and I have much more control over the bike. But most of my riding is trail or xc.

Riding along trails then yeah, if that's all you plan to do when you are out. I wouldn't be riding down hill and jump lines which is what I use my MTB for. Maybe you can use them for that but it's not for me anyway.

    Made me laugh

I chucked my SPDs on my CX bike as I didn’t like being clipped in on a descent on my MTB. on the lookout for a decent pair of ‘mtb’ shoes that’ll take cleats, I snapped the metal plate after many miles / spinning sessions on a cheapo muddy fox pair, and the replacements I bought are far too “Lycra brigade” esque
