An absolute bargain for A fulcrum 5 wheelset including two Continental Grand Prix 4000s tyres which are worth £70 alone, a fantastic tyre.

They also have 10% off other fulcrum and mavic wheelsets.

Also £5.04 topcashback or a little less through quidco.
Just ordered myself to replace my stock giant wheels.

DETAILS FROM WEBSITE:

Bundle Deal Fulcrum Racing 5 LG Road Wheelset, complete with Continental Grand Prix 4000s II 23mm road tyres and inner tubes. Wheels sold as front and rear pair with tyres and tubes fitted.

The same qualities that have made the RACING 5 such a popular wheel in the past combine with new elements to make an affordable but race ready wheel.

The new 20 spoke design in addition to the asymmetric rear rim profile offers notable performance increases in terms of both increased lateral and torsional rigidity as well as increased reactivity.

The new design allows for more homogenous spoke tensions and makes for a sturdier, higher performing wheelset that weighs in at over 100 grams less than its previous version.

Features:

Differentiated rim height - 24 mm at the front to provide optimal handling; 27,5 mm at the rear for transmitting all your power to the wheel.
New asymmetric rim profile - Asymmetrical rear rim profile allows for better balancing of spoke tensions between drive and non-drive side, giving better symmetry to an asymmetric component. Increased efficiency and reactivity are sure to be noted.
Double-butted steel spokes with aero profile - Enable maximum aerodynamic penetration.
Oversized hubs - Increase wheel stiffness and reactivity
High grade, top quality steel bearings with cup and cone construction - Reduce friction and ensure consistent performance over time.
Oversized flange on the drive side - Provides greater torsional stiffness, increases reactivity at each change in rhythm of the pedal stroke.
11 Speed but can be used 9 or 10 speed

Fulcrum 5s are a great value set of wheels.

They won't make you much faster though - placebo effect might.

    It's all about the engine.

I have a 2015 Giant Defy 1 and am looking to upgrade the wheels and tyres. Could anyone tell me if these would be a good upgrade. I've read the standard Giant wheels and rubber are pretty average. Any advice would be appreciated.

Yes these would be a good upgrade, similar wheels to what I'm replacing these with.
    Lighter wheels, better tyres

I was eyeing these up yesterday, great budget wheels that look fantastic!

I went with Aksium's for my budget road bike as I don't like the noise that the Campagnolo/Fulcrum pawls make - it's very loud!

I also made the switch from 23mm to 25mm tyres and won't be going back. Saying that though you get the tyres for £30 - I'm sure you could make money on selling them on an auction site...

I now find myself eyeing up the cosmic elite package for £226...

I upgraded to some Mavic Kyrsium Elite S and got a pair of Fulcrum Racing 3 for my wife and found that the Fulcrums were much quieter pawl-wise than the Fulcrums. I actually like the ticking sound, but my wife doesn't so we were both happy. Back to the original post, then this is a good deal I believe.

Agreed. I've had a few Giant road bikes and the stock wheels they come with leave a lot to be desired. Previously upgraded to Shimano RS21 from Merlin and these made a massive difference, so the Fulcrums would be even better I would have thought. Great price as well.

I was looking at R3's/Zondas originally, but couldn't justify spending £200+ on a set of wheels for a £365 Felt F95

Interesting about the pawls though, as the aksiums I have are quiet and the R7s I just got sold were so loud I assumed (wrongly it seems) that they were all going to be similar with higher models - cheers!

    I voted hot.:)

Great deal, although I always use 25mm tyres. Does anyone know the difference between the 2014 Racing 5's and the 2015 Racing 5 LG's? There's about £15 difference, but not sure what that extra gives you.

Not sure to be honest, can't be much difference, possible slight weight difference? Merlin don't list the weight of them

I have both the Racing 1s and 3s. The 1s are very loud, the 3s are silent. I actually like the the loud pawls as it makes others aware when you're near, it's a bit like a built in bell. X)

This is a great deal. If you're after the tyres, you could probably sell the wheels on eBay and still get the tyres considerably cheaper. I'm a Schwalbe fan, so I won't be pulling the trigger.

These are about 150 gms lighter than Defy 1 PR2 wheels the tyres and lighter tubes would be a cheaper update.
    RIP Cilla.

Not silent hubs but don't sound as noisy as old ones?

I'm a lot faster on these ... I used to get a puncture every other ride with my old wheels - not one puncture since installing these. Saves a good 5-10 mins every other ride ... Chris Froom would kill for a 10 min saving on a stage

The Defy 1 is a really nice bike - these would be a little lighter, but you will hardly notice the difference. I would only buy these if your current wheels are shot. May also be worth saving up in the meantime for the Fulcrum 3's.
