Much difference in the newer gen hubs?
    shappinbegs's avatar
I've got both. Realistically the new one has some sleep tracking features and the sound is a little better / the interface is a little snappier. There's some gestures too that I've never found that useful. (edited)

Do people think this a good price for 1st gen?
    shappinbegs's avatar
They usually go for about £40 so it's not a bad price

Excellent price really if you consider what this thing can do. Makes a great alarm clock, but also great in other rooms of the house. For example, if you have a nest doorbell this will also stream the video when someone rings, which is a nice feature

    £24 for employees

Are you offering to buy for me at that price, buy now pay later?

    Says £49 for me?
    kobrakaan1's avatar
    OP states 'selected accounts'

Funny that, they sent out a staff discount last week for £24 each.

I'd avoid. Google smart devices are getting more stupid by the day & losing functionallity.

My Google devices have definitely deteriorated in the last 6 months.
They struggle to hear me, answer from the wrong device and even come out with random answers to questions I never asked. Often the Google nest hubs will go off on a rant that can't be stopped without shouting at it.

Great price for this. I've got both the 1st and 2nd Gen, not much of a difference that I notice in terms of sound quality. I've got lots of Google Home devices dotted around the house to listen to music / view photo albums. Heat from me!

Just seen the email and ordered! Hopefully I can leave Matilda the Musical streaming on it which should occupy the kids for a few days...

So how do I get this price? I'm not BT employee, nor on any of their mailing lists
  14. sutty's avatar
Get 2nd gen, sound is so much better on 2nd
  15. sheffield788's avatar
I don't know why people mentioned BT employees. I'm not one of them, but I've received this e-mail.

I mentioned employees as its an extra £5 off at £24
  16. johntaylor81's avatar
Don't do it. The new ones have much better sound and worth the extra few quid
    Andrew_K's avatar
Extra few quid? £50 more, nearly triple the price...

I’ve still got two new and sealed second gen ones from the fire pad John Lewis deal from 2021…that I got for free….(y)
    jimjim79's avatar
    whats your price, message me.
  18. danniyazi's avatar
Cheers OP, ordered. The speaker in my 3rd Gen Echo dot has gone fuzzy so this seems like a good replacement. Not too fussed about sound quality as I never have it very loud in any case.
  19. colindglen's avatar
    Sadly not for me
  20. Brutes's avatar
    Oh, nearly ordered it.
But then realized 2 of these are lying in my stock room.
Thank you, OP for the heads up though.

Weren’t these going free with John Lewis recently? Is it the same model or different?
    gazzamatt's avatar
Yes in late 2021 with the 10” firepad…..(y)

Anyone know how to get Ring doorbells and Blink cameras to work on these? (I know it's not officially on there due to both companies above are owned by Amazon) it's just I have multiple Echos shows around the house but these days they're absolutely rubbish, hardly ever listens or responds, claims it 'can't do that' on commands though it can or responds to Alexa then does nothing when asked, it gets to the point where I shout and swear at it!
    L33TL33's avatar
You can get it to work, but honestly it’s not very useful. There’s a 20-30 second delay and it constantly keeps stopping and buffering. Seems to be an issue on both Google and Alexa devices and you’re just better off viewing cameras on your phone

That’s my honest opinion. I have 3 Google displays and absolutely love them (edited)

anyone know if google store will price match?
    dwaindigital's avatar
Lol never. To be honest you can get these around this price on ebay
