I got the 2800H for this price in December. not sure if you still can though.

Yeah, it's not been that price since. Has been stuck at the £600 mark at Richersounds.

My 3300 powers down a few seconds after I turn it on Where's the best place to get it fixed?

Check you don't have any short circuits first, they have a protection mode if there's a problem with your wiring

I would avoid the X1000 and X2000 series, because they are missing Audyssey XT32 room correction, they only get the seriously compromised Audyssey XT. X3000 series and up get XT32. I upgraded from the X2400H to the X3700H and this particular feature made a huge difference as it works all the way across the frequency range. The XT version on this model is too cut down and only corrects high frequencies, and is missing many of the powerful features of the XT32 version.

It also allows a lot more customisation using the android/IOS Audyssey app

Lots more info on the topic if you search on google/youtube - I didnt realise when I bought my X2400H and was disappointed to find this out. I got my X3700H a year about for £450 second hand. I would look out for a good deal on an X3700H rather than X1800H personally.

Obviously if you don't have a 5.1 (or greater) setup and/or don't care about room correction, go ahead. It's probably not worth it for stereo music etc. (edited)

Don't know what's happened to AV receiver prices. This level of amp would have been 299 at the most as it was considered entry level. I have a 3500h and that was only 500ish and that is technically 2 levels higher than this. I wonder if it's the popularity of Sonos and such makes them more niche now?

Covid seemed to put a stop to those old prices. That and greed of course!

I would recommend a Yamaha av2 or av4 over this. Much better sound for similar prices!

    Not Atmos support though

Decent receiver, I've got a Marantz NR1711 currently but would like to go for a 9.2 in the future as have a couple of spare speakers.

Would you not rather utilise atmos (5.1.4) instead of the 9.2?

I own a Denon 2400H and i hate how long it takes to power on, where as my Yamahas and ive own a few over the years seems to be instant. (edited)

I don't think that's usual? I have the 2400H and it comes on instantly. Well, maybe 4-5 seconds? (edited)

I have the X1700H, personally don't rate HEOS that much so I got a Wiim Pro to pair with it, a lot better IMO.
    bensbb's avatar
Agreed, Heos is pretty woeful, due to the app mostly. I wouldn't buy it for the strength of this feature.

OK, what would any recommend for a good AV?

I currently have a Denon 3500, which is paired with Monitor Audio Gold 300’s, Gold 250 (Centre) and a Gold W12 sub.

I know it’s a little under powered for the speakers, even though I get good sound quality from it. Would changing the AV or adding an Amp make so much difference, as I generally listen to it a lower levels and not crank it up loud…

    Is that the X3500H?

I wouldn't think you'd actually benefit much from an upgrade really. The only notable features added that I can see are support for 8k and 4k/120hz. If you don't have a PS5/Series X, or aren't planning to get one, I wouldn't bother. Video wise it supports 4k/60hz and Dolby Vision which is really the best you can get still

Really if you are looking to go for a lot of power you'd want to be looking at external power amps at that point. Your AVR has pre-out connections for this so you wouldn't need to upgrade it, and you could take your power amps forward to another AVR in the future. Usually most people will just go for a power amp for their front left and right, and then let the AVR power the other channels. Do you only have 3 channels powered? If so the AVR is under even less stress.

As your unit supports XT32 I would get the Audyssey app your phone and use that to tweak it and see if you like the sound after (How I Setup Audyssey Using the MultEQ App on My Denon X4500H - Step by Step Instructions - YouTube) - it costs £20 which is a lot of an app but not a lot as far as home theatre is concerned! This for me was honestly a much better upgrade than messing around with my equipment. (edited)
