Evening folks, saw this deal pop up and possibly interested.

We currently have a Dell E7470 touchscreen and the screen has gone t*ts up and leaked etc.

Bit out of the game with laptops these days so wondering how this compares. I'd presume this is a better bit of kit.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

I have both, a Dell E7470 (non-touchscreen) and a T480. The processor in the Lenovo is a later generation (8th) quad-core (as opposed to the 6th generation) dual core in your E7470 so windows 11 is a no-go. I do like my dell - I am typing this on it - but the T480 is generally better all round (although the screen on the T480 is not as good as my E7470) so I blinged mine up with a 72% NTSC, 400 Nit N140HCG-GQ2 (£80 delivered from Aliexpress). It is the last Thinkpad with the 'Powerbridge' dual battery feature (Shame the second battery is omitted in this deal, (get a good Kingsener one on Aliexpress for around £30). The best thing about the T480 is its upgradability (sadly a lot of more recent Thinkpads do not allow as much tinkering and blinging up - with soldered RAM etc). I've stuck a WD 256GB NVME in the WWAN slot (to go with a WD 2TB NVME in the main slot - The T480 only has two PCIe lanes, but I'm getting 1700ish read/write speeds from both, which is fine by me. I've stuck a backlit UK keyboard in (cost £30, PM me if you are interested, I might know where to get some more). an additional 16GB of memory _ it came with one 16gb stick and I wanted to have dual channel, so it was either get another 16GB or swap it out for 2x 8GB's (but where is the fun in that!) Oh, and I have installed the discrete graphics fan with the dual heatpipes (I don't have discrete graphics, but the fan with the additional heatpipe fits perfectly, and gives you twice the cooling mass. I ran tests before and after and it's running more than 5 degrees cooler now, hopefully, this will improve a bit as it beds in. I've about finished blinging my T480 up, the last thing left is a glass touchpad - but it's a minefield finding the correct FRU number for a plug-and-play replacement, and the touchpad is like new on mine anyway. I ordered this two days ago, it came today. The condition is as almost new, no scratches anywhere. No wear to the keys or anywhere else. Battery has lost 20% of its capacity. I'm impressed by it. Its faster than my sandybridge 2600k.

Hi can you tell me what battery comes with this. Would I need to purchase an external clip on battery if I needed more battery? I need a pc to use on my travels. Thanks

Anyone no if this has a M.2 and 2.5 drive slot I can see different models showing one or other.

    2.5. We give them
out in work. Relatively easy to swap the ssds out.

Mine arrived this afternoon and seems to be in good condition. However, before I can do anything, it is asking me for my email address in order to progress the set up. It rejected my email and said that the email must be a business or academic email which I don't have. The default email that was on screen was an AstraZenica email which obvious I can't use. Has anyone else had this issue?

I attached two posts that answer your question but the moderators deleted both of them. Please search Reddit with keywords like Astra Zeneca, ThinkPad T480 and Lenovo. There's plentiful information and solutions within.

Where have you got that from?

    Very Good - Refurbished

Laptop will have minor wear to the lid and palm rest, and may have minor scratches/marks around the surface. There will be no physical damage to the laptop.

I know it comes with Windows 11, but if anyone's thinking of dual booting with Linux (or even wiping Windows with Linux entirely, which is what I'd do if I bought it :-) ), then you might find this page quite useful:

Out of interest. Why? I like the idea if it brings extra utility and how could it not but, what?

Just received a 16gb yoga370 for under £90 & a yoga L380 for £104 both with styluses from different eBay sellers with the 20% code...
    Very happy with them both.

Now with generations of tech overlap, second hand tech has never been a better buy- which bodes very badly for a tech industry in massive financial decline.

I mean there was that 60 quid new laptop here yesterday- which against a lot of criticism was amazing for the price, all things considered- BUT cheap new always means a ton of compromises, most especially in build quality. Second hand means you can go for the very best in build quality for a fraction of the original price, given that you do your research and target well specced, well supported devices with no design flaws.

And worse (for the industry), Intel, AMD and Nvidia are trying to palm off some serious rubbish in the new low end, as if it is a seller's market (which it is not).

However, I'd really recommend learning about the best light-weight app solutions for your second hand phones and laptops- there is an industry incentive to promote bloatware on the latest hardware to justify needing ever more CPU cores and RAM. Even that 60quid new laptop could run well with the right Windows programs (most of which are free- and often open-source- alternatives to the programs so many of you use). Media players, editors, graphics apps, PDF readers - just about everything can be run well on less cores with less RAM, if only you use the right programs. On the other hand, use MS rubbish apps for everything you do (I mean, for heaven's sake, there are people who use Microsoft's media player- and that is just unthinkably foolish), and even your latest Laptop will start feeling sluggish.

I have this laptop for work. It's okay.

Sadly seems oos now. That aside, is there much difference between this and (besides a year newer processor) T490 equivalent? Cheers.
    Pauley-B's avatar
Personally I think the T480 is better as it’s the latest you can get with Lenovos external battery, and non soldered RAM, but the T490 some came with a low power 1080p display which was much better, although you can put that screen in the T480
