Filmmaker Mode lets you see the picture exactly as originally intended
If you’re mad about movies, you’ll love Filmmaker Mode on this LG 55 inch TV. Designed in collaboration with filmmakers and Hollywood studios, Filmmaker Mode lets you experience the cinematic vision, exactly as the director intended. Overriding the TV’s own motion and picture processing, Filmmaker Mode presents the correct aspect ratio, colour and frame rate – just as the filmmakers intended.

Superior picture for all – wide viewing angle
Featuring an IPS 4K panel, this LG 55” TV
offers 100% colour accuracy, even from a 60-degree angle. This means everyone in the room gets to see the immersive picture, with life-like realism. True Colour Accuracy takes this realism to the next level, delivering sharper, richer and more natural colour.

HDR gives stunning detail
This LG includes support for HDR10 and HLG. HDR10 is widely used on UHD gaming consoles from Sony and Microsoft. HLG (Hybrid Log Gamma HDR) is a broadcast and user generated standard format that is seen as the standard for transmitting 4K signals.

AI Sound
If you fancy a more cinematic sound from your TV, then LG’s AI Sound should be music to your ears. Using AI algorithms, AI Sound up-mixes two-channel audio to virtual 5.1 sound – giving a much more immersive sound stage. The Quad-core processor also optimises the sound based on content type – giving clearer vocals with news and dramas. The powerful AI can also take account of your room’s acoustics and layout and adjusts to give the cleanest sound possible.

It's superb. I read a number of reviews and weighed up qled and oled and in the end went for a straight up LED. I'm not a cinema.. buff.. I don't play 4K Blue ray's etc. We watch TV during the day with curtains open and night with lamps turned on etc, and I don't think we'd ever have an optimal roomsetup to justify an OLED. That being said this TV has everything I need and compared to my 8 year old TV, I was
Able to 1) unplug my roku. The LG has every streaming service your likely to need 2)unplug my Infra Red TV channel changer. The LG can be controlled from an Alexa and 3) unplug my 3.5mm to bluetooth transmitter.. The LG will transmit audio to Bluetooth headphones.. Quality is excellent. I did need to purchase a vesa stand from amazon (22 quid) as the feet on this TV are too wide for our small TV stand. Wish I had of picked this up 12 months ago (edited)

Found some calibration settings which should help people to get a lot more potential from these sets.

Is it dark picture ? Saw reviews on YouTube and picture doesn’t seem bright

This is a basic low end 4K TV. The backlight is dim (it can't go past 300 nits), and the panel has low contrast, so dark scenes appear grey.

Still a good price for a big brand TV though.

    £189? It shows £249 for me…

The VIP price is £199 (price updates when you log in) and when you first sign-up for VIP you get a £10 off code.
VIP sign up is free, it's essentially just joining their mailing list.

I'd never had an RS online account until yesterday but had been on their mailing list for years following some instore purchases.
When I tried to sign up for VIP list I didn't get the £10 code even though I'd never ordered online.

Spoke to them via Messenger and was told it was because I'd previously been on their mailing list, rather than argue the point I just signed up as a VIP using a different email and immediately got the code.

Just in case anyone is in two minds about buying this tv, I had one delivered today. Setting up took about 5 mins to attach the feet and a further 5 minutes to configure the settings. The upshot is that it is a fabulous tv for the money I paid. (£239). The picture is great, the sound is way better than average and it’s fast to operate.

This TV is only 300 nits, so it's even relatively low compared to an OLED (around 400 nits). So you're room can't be that bright and is likely very suitable to OLED. When people bash OLED and bright rooms they really mean SUPER bright rooms. And my contention then is every TV actually looks horrible in those circumstances. you're just pumping brightness and contrast to a level where your experience is so bright that you miss the details anyway.

I have a Sony OLED in a bright room and it's fantastic. In the evening with no sunlight it's even better, and for movie watching with a lamp with ambient light, it's better still.

Anyway, there is no point in comparing this to an OLED which is a premium experience. The main thing I dislike about LED TVs is the digital looking image - I can never get over it. OLED gives you a picture, like the plasmas of old, that looks more natural and cinematic.

Not sure the 6 year's warranty is actually worth taking into consideration in the price, as the warranty will only get you a voucher worth 20% of what you paid if product and packaging is in pristine condition by year 6

I know this is cheap for a 55", and was going to pull the trigger.

But the fact that when watching movies in a dim / dark environment, the black borders or dark scenes will be grey kind of puts me off.

Great price but 2 x hdmi is blimming useless.

Yeah my plasma has 4 hdmi but you can always get an hdmi switch mine cost £7 and it works perfectly - for me i need at least 11 hdmi sockets so only having 2 like these tellies would require 2 hdmi switches bit of a bummer but it does have freesat and alexa so very tempted!

so you would not recommend this tv?

Depends what you want to do with it if its just watch telly then great go for it , it will upscale to 4k if that is your bag but for ordinary tv viewing it should be fine!

Modern gamers require 100hz and no motion blur so you would be talking £700 for a requisite tv so not sure why people are arguing over a £299 bargain!

I thought this was a forum for mainly skint folks who have either to chose to heat, eat or 50" telly lol

Dont expect to hook up your ps5 to this tv and be blown away.So then just keep your old tv? Or get a used decent 1080p? I got my mom an old 1080p plasma for 100£ recently, and it doesnt suffer from back-light bleed and ghosting and generally bad image processing that this most likely does.

My plasma IS decent and probably has a better picture than this telly!
I am one of the "old fashioned" electronics repair guys and i repair tellies so can keep it going indefinitely unless one of the screen ribbons goes phutt or the screen fails - already repaired the ysus board and the psu board for less than a quid and in these times of penury most folks i know cant afford a pot to p in never mind buy a new telly
Most led tellies can be fixed for a 25p all the boards are on ebay its sometimes as easy as plugging a new pci gfx card into a pc!

I play on my ancient Sony 1080p 60hz lcd. I know I can’t get hdmi 2.1 and 120fps big tvs for my budget. What I want to know is 4K 60hz still going to look a lot better or is it worth waiting until I can afford the 120hz displays?

A simple way to answer this really would be, is your budget going to change anytime soon?
As I am in the same boat, but those high refresh rate TV's are not going to be anywhere near my budget anytime soon. I.e around £300 like this lol.

Also, I can not justify paying all that extra money just for the extra FPS. I know you get a bit more too but honestly. I have always been happy with 60 FPS and TV's in this price range.

However, take that with a grain of salt because this is not my main gaming. I game on PC mostly with consoles second. I do love a big TV for consoles though but I just accept how it looks, and accept that I am paying less for a TV than the best. I also expect consoles to not run as good as my PC so I am ok with this. Though the latest consoles are impressive!

It's more of a case, do you want to pay £300 or £800 - £2000 lol?
Extra tip, have u ever seen above 60 FPS?
