Seems like a pretty decent price on a pretty good wifi 5 mesh router. Useful for people getting linksys velop nodes when signing up with the various fttp fibre to home providers like community fibre that need a bit more coverage. Was initially looking at a 2nd hand mr8300 or even 7350 but they are still being sold for a similar price as this new.

If you had this which is triband but connected another linksys device which is dual band as a mesh setup, would you get any benefits of wireless backhaul being faster? Or do both have to be triband?

Both would need to be triband to benefit from wireless backhaul as it uses one of the 3 bands so that the other 2 are not impacted. But there are other options you may be able to use to get better speed if you feel it's necessary. You could connect the non triband node to the router via ethernet (either via a cable or a fast powerline adaptor if you can put both ends of it on the same power ring in your house). That way the data between the node and router would go via ethernet instead of on one of the 2 wifi channels.

Is this compatible with mx5500, gigaclear vloope, can I make this primary and the other vloope as mesh?

Yep definitely. That's exactly what i've done with my mx/ax5400. You will need to reset the mx5500 so it goes into setup mode (purple light on top) and then add it as a new child node

Does anyone know if you can connect two of these together via mesh?

Yes using the Linksys velop app

do these work with other manufacturers mesh networks?
    Andy_Ong's avatar
    Author
No it uses the velop mesh system which is linksys. It requires the linksys mobile app to add nodes to the mesh network so the nodes all need to be velop compatible

I bought one of these btw to use as a primary node and change the community fibre ax5400 to a child node at the back of the house. Am getting improved wifi signal strength with this compared to the ax5400 and adjusting the angle of one of the antenna has boosted the signal in the upstairs front room.
Also appears nat loopback is working on this router by default (which wasn't working on the ax5400) which means i can now access the website i'm hosting by its dns hostname.
Seems to be working really well. (edited)

I am with Community Fibre also, I have the adtran modem box setup so I guess that will be connected via cat5/6 cable to the back of this???

I have mr8300 already. 'ac2200'. What ACTUAL difference is there between mr8300 and this one.? I always thought the AC number was indicator of total bandwidth between nodes. Etc.

I believe the ac number is the total potential bandwidth of all the wifi channels combined. Like the max potential bandwidth of the 2.4ghz channel combined with the max potential of the 5ghz channel and if it's triband then the max potential of the additional 5ghz channel. In real world terms you would expect to see very little, if any, difference to the mr8300 so i wouldn't bother changing tbh

Im Virgin with Virgin router, I was planning on using this as a wifi router instead of a Virgin router. are these any good?
    Andy_Ong's avatar

Yes i've found the router to do everything i need so far and have the benefit of a mesh wifi network through the house now. You will need to login to your virginmedia router and change it to modem mode (instead of router mode) and then connect an ethernet cable to the wan (yellow) port on the mr9000 router and then all traffic will be managed by the mr9000 router.
