Since Lyca moved to EE I can only get LTE signal and no 4G hence no data

EE reception round here is generally ok and we do get 4G

do any settings need to be changed?
    KodaBear's avatar
In the UK LTE is 4G. Literally the same thing with a different name. It’s just because there’s no carrier profile for iOS with LycaMobile so it reverts to the default Apple one which uses US Terminology.

5gb, 7gb and 10.5gb EU roaming cap on these if that's important to you.

I was about to ask about it,thanks for that. I'll use once again Tesco Mobile 100gb £20 rocket pack for my Europe travel (100 GB allowance in roaming). Haven't found yet a bigger data allowance on a prepaid sim than the Tesco Mobile's one.

Terrible and I mean terrible customer service if any issues arise and they do..

    Unbelievably bad!!
Had to experience it to believe it.

Anyone getting 4g/5g on an iPhone? My sons iPhone 12 is only getting LTE….any ideas? Thanks

LTE is 4G in the UK. Same thing. Just a different name because there's no iOS carrier profile for Lyca. It reverts to the default Apple one and uses US Terminology instead.

5G is also supported, provided EE have 5G Coverage where you are. Double check it's definitely available there. If it is, and you can't enable it in iOS reset the network settings and that should make it work.

I’ve just switched to Lyca and wouldn’t recommend. Barely get a signal and when I do the internet is so slow. Tried live chat waited 30 mins then agent ended chat. Emailed 5 days ago still no response. Will be going back to Lebara asap
    wunwun123's avatar
This is exactly what I just did, I have tried speaking to someone all week just to try and swap my old number and when I do the chat cuts off.. absolutely terrible service and instantly went back to Lebara.

Worst service ever, do not use this company.

Got a 89p 5gb sim to test out

Voice call is low for me due to not having VoLTE

Moved to Lyca 2 weeks ago for the EE network. Signal is awful so far, despite the EE signal map indicating it should be fine.

Also having issues with porting… my number has ported over but iMessage and FaceTime still use the old Lyca mobile number - does anybody know how to fix this?

I’ve rang their customer services, but both times I’ve been fobbed off and told they’d fix the issue, Only to receive a text saying it has been rectified… it hasn’t

After my experience with Lyca, my advice would be to AVOID

I found lebara a much better setup. From onboarding and registration, app and support.

Never again will I use Lyca.

I totally agree. In a sector where customer service is notoriously bad, these guys stood out for their poor service.

I was getting excellent signal with Lyca when they were on O2. Since they moved to EE few weeks ago I cant even make a phone call at home. I cancelled both my and my wife's sims and moved to Lebara
    kalico's avatar
    Who do Lebara use?
  11. swannyofficial's avatar
I moved over the Lyca once they changed to EE last week. I am getting no issues with calls and texts and internet speeds of up to 180mbps. Upload speeds of up to 40mbps. In poorer areas I am still getting 100mbps and 16/20 mbps upload. I had no issues porting my number over either. Done within 24 hours. Will stay with them for the promotional period then look for the best deal at the time.

Worst service ever, it is impossible to speak to their customer support, do not use this company.

What's the catch, is it less reliable signal? EE is by far the best coverage in my rural town and need it for daughter's medical devices? Thanks in advance
    KodaBear's avatar
There’s no Band 20 (800MHz) - Mostly used for VoLTE Purposes. Definitely compare the signal checkers for them against EE direct since you’re rural to see how much of a difference it will make.
  15. deleted2904274's avatar
Reception is pretty bad with them where I am. I'm in my last 49p a month deal with them and I won't be staying.
  16. Bargainhunt's avatar
Anyone can tell us what lyca / EE collaboration is like ?? Any better speeds etc
    underfamed's avatar
As much as everyone (including me) wishes there was a one-size-fits-all answer, it really does depend on your location - it’s worth checking some websites that provide location based coverage tracking
  17. tascheman's avatar
Waiting for Lebara to punch back at this - been with them on multiple accounts over the past few years, service has been fine.

As I now have a dual sim phone, will port my main number out to 1p Mobile on the £36 a year deal and pick up cheap offers for data.
    Professor_Chaos's avatar
on dual sim phones can you disable data on one sim whilst keeping it active and use data on the other?
  18. lmulli's avatar
I signed up to Lyca, which at the time was with O2. Unfortunately, the day before my Sim arrived, it would appear that they signed a deal with EE. The result being that for around 80-85% of my time I have no reliable Data connection. I thought Three were, bad, Lyca (via EE) are terrible!!!

Thanks voda contract ending soon this is perfect.

    Anyone getting transaction failures?
I've called the company and the customer services is shocking, even when you find a way to talk to somebody!
    emz_bail's avatar
Yes had the email this morning saying payment failure after I signed up with them a month ago. They are so bad I’d rather pay more with another company.

T&Cs prohibit use in a router. Not a problem if you'll use it in a phone, but something to be aware of. (edited)
    r4w80's avatar
Where does it say that? Had a quick look but I didn't find that
  22. samsmith66's avatar
I am switching to Virgin SIM, signal seems good and with EU roaming you can use your whole allowance, no cap, 1 month contract. Once they move you to o2, they will give you double data too. Didn't cost me anything as you get £10 topcashback too. (edited)
    Professor_Chaos's avatar
They seem to have good deals currently
  23. williemaykit's avatar
Be aware that if your cashback doesn't track, you cannot raise a claim for Quidco SIM compare. If the same deal is available via one of the aggregators (e.g. uSwitch, MSM, etc), best to use them as they will be treated as any other merchant. (edited)

    Can you get free sim?
    I keep getting this error

It uses the EE signal now and that’s my speed. I have used Vodafone and O2 in the past and would never go back. So far the service has been brilliant can’t complain. Only issue is for some reason when using Lyca on iPhone it comes up as LTE not 5G?
    KodaBear's avatar
LTE is 4G. No difference between the two it's just the carrier profile configuration.
As for 5G, It's supported. Make sure it's enabled in your device settings, and that EE have 5G available where you are.

With that said, if you're getting 400+Mbps on 4G I wouldn't be too worried about 5G. That's already a really good speed. Stepping up to 5G isn't likely to make a noticeable improvement to your experience, but it will use more battery.
  26. BonzyBuddy's avatar
Lowest network priority. My dad that hardly uses his phone couldn’t even make a call to me on a one off they don’t even get all of EE bands
  27. MgBossHogg's avatar
Any 2017 esc features? Volte / WiFi calling / visual voicemail?
    KodaBear's avatar
VoLTE and WiFi calling are coming soon now they have moved to EE. Visual Voicemail will probably never become a thing though. Very few providers have this and it tends to just be the big networks only.
  28. markgo's avatar
No wifi calling so it's a no from me.
    MgBossHogg's avatar
Yip . It's 2023. WiFi calling and volte are a must.

    HORRENDOUS SERVICE...!
What company doesn't work on a Sunday. I have purchased top ups on an existing lyca SIM. And even bought an esim to buy pass. But sure they are closed all day Sundays. Useless. Aule Lizzie the live BOT answers are as if she is only home from an all nighter and regret texting all her fallen soldiers. Useless. Thank goodness only a 30 day contract.
  30. sjg_jsg2003's avatar
Switched to lyca no issues but can't send long text messages, can send texts less than 160 characters
    KodaBear's avatar
Check your settings. Your phone is probably trying to send long texts as picture messages.
  31. Coolio's avatar
When does the promotional period start...on ordering the sim or activating it?
    KodaBear's avatar
Activation - Which can be any time up to 30 days from the date of ordering.
  32. jimbo23's avatar
How do you check your remaining data on these?
    KodaBear's avatar
Send the command *131# or check your online account/app.

Alternatively your phone should have a data counter to help keep track of usage too.

Got this text from Lyca, am I wise signing up or will my deal change?
  35. Gravesy166's avatar
Be careful if you have a Google phone. 5G not supported so you'll only get 4G at best. Ported number successfully using Live Chat. Just type "Live agent" in the chat box and you'll be transferred. It's a very good deal with limitations, not sure if I'll keep it though.
  36. originalli's avatar
Google phones don't support WiFi calling on virtual operators.

I think 5g is the setup they have for all phones.
It's not a big difference between 4g and 5g anyway.

I left after 2 months with them and poor reception everywhere. Now with O2, only slightly better I must say
