This is the pedestal version of the occasionally available 10" Meaco "desk" fan - which I personally prefer.
Model 1056P, about £139.99 or more in other places.

Also available is the "desk" version, for a bit more than it was before, £89.99:

Description
Introducing the Meaco 10in Pedestal Air Circulator which circulates air within your room efficiently and quietly.

The fan head quietly moves side to side, up and down bouncing the air off the walls and ceiling to create a pleasant breeze within the room rather than just blowing the air directly at you. This means that the whole of your room is cooled, rather than just one or two areas, making your home or office a comfortable space to live or work. Also perfect for home gyms, conservatories and annexe office spaces, the Meaco pedestal fan is a great option for areas that regularly become too warm.
The Meaco10in Pedestal Air Circulator comes with a magnetic remote control and a display in the base to show you the room temperature and selected fan speed.

This fan also benefits from four modes of operation:
Normal – constant airflow at a speed setting of between 1 and 12.
Natural – the airflow moves between weak and strong, to replicate a natural breeze. Speed options are between 1 and 12.
Sleep – the fan speed will decrease by one level every 30 minutes until it reaches level 1.
ECO – the fan speed will change according to the changing temperature in the room.

In ECO mode the fan speed automatically changes as the temperature in the room changes. At night the off timer will silently turn the fan off and the display light can be turned on or off according to your preference.

  • Fan Speeds: 12

I'm on the hunt for a powerful child safe fan. P.s the Dysons are not powerful enough.

I have this fan and there is no way a child could get fit their fingers through the vents. Also fan is deep in a tunnel.
Its a pedestal fan however so they could topple it.

In addition to the other comments they run on a DC motor so are quiet.

Power consumption on high is 24w vs 60-80w on "normal" fans

What specifically was the difference you noticed?

I have the desk version, decent fan airflow with many settings and highlight for me is the quietness. It definitely cost much more than a standard fan so it's a luxury gadget and whether the quietness is essential for your use

I believe once the power is cut to our it sort of resets.

it does have a sleep setting that lowers the fan speed gradually over hours here is the snippet from the manual

The fan speed will decrease by one level every 30
minutes. When fan speed 1 has been reached, the fan will continue to run until it is

You can't automate turning it on, but you can tell it to turn itself off after a few hours.

When you connected mains power, the fan is off, even if it was running when you disconnected the mains. To automate turning it off and on you'd need a smart gadget with infrared.

I've had this in use since Thursday now - it's indeed very quiet, seems to "tunnel" air quite well which works well with the pretty much silent movement of the entire head.
    Happy so far!

I guarantee you it doesn't cool the room. No fans do that. They cool down people by evaporating their sweat. Air conditioning units will cool a room but not a fan, even at this price.

I have one of these and two of the non-pedestal versions. Very good and quiet enough to have on while sleeping and still moves a decent amount of air on lower speeds. I paid this at Costco last year when it was on offer. Stock became hard to get though as the summer heat kicked in.

What’s the advantage of this over the desktop version? (Apart from its floor standing ) does it shift more air? Is it bigger or more powerful ? Or are u paint 40-50 quid more just for it to stand on the floor as opp to a table

Yes it does Power Consumption 6 to 24 watts

I remember looking it to this when I got I it last year before energy price increase. One of the reasons I got this was because it uses DC motor is uses a lot less than a normal fan so it would end up paying for itself in saved energy costs.
  22. dodge747's avatar
My view on this fan is it is very good quality and well built item, but not worth the extra cost over a cheaper normal/non-DC fan. Yes it's quiet, but mainly at lower speeds, at higher speeds you still get air turbulence noise. It uses less leccy, but a non-DC fan is already a low usage item at around 30-50w so the energy saving is negligible in real money terms. And no, it doesn't cool the room as some might expect for the price, it's just a fan so blows the warm air already in the room around, hence "air circulator". In fact in my opinion, as it also points upwards when circulating, it actually brings the risen hot air back down so actually warms the lower part of the room up more than a normal fan.
I wish I hadn't bought mine in summary and saved around £60.

5-10 w less is around 5 pence saving , you will need 5 centuries to recoup the price

If you want a cheaper alternative the woozoo at Amazon is very quiet

The price seems to keep dropping to around £25 , .I paid £23 so don't pay the current £69 price ,it's as quiet as my Meaco fan but does not do the upright motion just left and right

That actually sounds really appealing. Only thing is we only use fans in our house for like a month or so out of the entire year. Then it just gets chucked into our outhouse

I was waiting for the first comment about this
The human-perceived effect is that of feeling cooler, which is the whole point. Totally agree that it doesn't cool the actual air.

A perceived effect and a statement, like the description on Costco site that this fan cools a room, are 2 very different things indeed.

I bought this a few weeks back from qvc as have a bonco fan and can tell you this is my best purchase of the year it looks nice in any room and has so many options and cools so well the little remote is so handy don't hesitate to buy this over a Dyson treat urself before the proper sumer is here you won't regret it.

I can't be certain as I don't have a small child. But I do have this fan, and my man fingers don't fit through the grille at their widest point (the edge). The blades are curved, and pretty far from the grille at the edge.

So while a small child might be able to force their finger through the gap near the edge, I don't think their finger would be long enough to hurt themselves.
