The Merida Big trail is a 140mm travel trail monster. From epic cross-country days to sending it down your local bike park, the Big Trail will grow as your skills progress.

The Merida Big Trail has been a hit with the mountain bike press and trail riders alike. Bikeboard.cc confirmed that we 'nailed it', while MBR, IMB and many more confirmed that the Big Trail is firmly at the top of the trail hardtail game.

Conversations between UK bike shops and Merida's German R & D team resulted in the development of a fun-packed and hugely capable bike.

Trail bike geometry combined with a long travel 140 mm fork and grippy 2.4" wide 29er trail tyres make this the perfect companion for exciting trail sessions and demanding all-day rides over rough terrain. It's perfectly suited to UK riding.

The modern trail bike geometry has a slack enduro inspired 65.5° head angle, steep seat angle and a long reach.

A short seat tube delivers a low standover height giving plenty of space to manoeuvre on the bike when the trail gets technical but still accommodates a long travel dropper post.

The geometry means most sizes work for most body sizes so riding style can be factored in. If you want to go crazy fast, take the longer size, for agility, take a shorter size.

The Big Trail has hidden talents, in addition to two sets of bottle bosses, there's a trail mount under the top tube giving the ability to carry tools and extra gear on the bike. It's also possible to fit mudguards and a rack if you want to trek further afield.

Extra 10% off for bluelight - bought this for £1142 a month ago and it’s been great! The only thing I’d comment on are the brakes and grips. The brakes are adequate but by may need changing for the hardcore trail riders. Grips feel stiff and give me a bit of hand fatigue, so I’ll swap these out for some ESI chunky’s. Other than that, it’s light, practical and the rims make for an easy tubeless conversion (first time doing this and took about 5 mins). Took it to the local trails and as soon as I took it out of the car someone yelled “wow, nice bike!” - worth it !

Also, tredz have an amazing deal on the Troy lee A3 in jade green - likely because it’s not a popular colour - but it matches this bike perfectly

Probably a daft question, but there's a couple of full sus bikes on hukd atm for the same price. What's the draw here? Paintwork on this one trumps everything else for sure, but I'm less clear on the rest! thanks

The Bomber Z2's are good forks and easily the most expensive part on that bike.

Nice bike but bigger saving on the Whyte 905. Which is better?

I have the big trail 500, great hardtail MTB . Though be careful with sizing, size up. I am currently selling mine in N.Ireland as wanting a slightly larger frame.

I'm 6'3" so was looking at the XL. When I use the size calc on the Merida website it shows XXL (just) :/
