Decent price for the 256gb version of the original Surface Duo. I’ve previously had one, but couldn’t get on with some of the well documented niggles, so returned it.

Can anyone who bought or own the Duo kindly share their thoughts please? I'm on the fence. Don't ever use a tablet but think it may make easier reviewing emails and documents on the go. Thanks

If you take alot of pictures I'd pass and no nfc but I use my watch so that's a work around. That's the only down side to having one for me anyway. I don't take many pictures so never been an issue. I've had one since the Costco deal 499 I think so this is a steal and if I didn't have one would be all over this. The amount of times I whip it out in work or shops and people look and ask what it is. Battery surprised me and is fine untill you span across two screen and it drops alot. Update after update its been a dream to own now and haven't had any issues at all. When you see one and hold one for the first time it really is something. It's so thin and light if you don't rock a pouch or case you won't even notice it in your pocket. That's one other down side lack of accessories but I've been using outterbox pouch and it's brilliant. Multitasking is a dream on this. For example right now uk deals is on the right and ebay is open on the left it's so cool speakers are meh but I rock bluetooth headphones. If your on the fence jump off it and buy one. For this price you won't regret it (edited)

I have the duo 2. Fantastic device. I also had the Duo 1. Complete dud, overspecced and underpowered processor. Do not waste your money! Great price for a reason!

It's a terrific price and I would get one again if Microsoft fixed the screen gap issue that means you don't get to see all the text on a (web) page that looks to use both screens like a mini tablet. Not a hardware problem but a problem created by 'clever' software and fixed in software. This page covers it: answers.microsoft.com/en-…70b

I had Galaxy Notes and now use Duo 1/256 from Technoworld as daily driver phone and find its fantastic, albeit it's really a mini laptop. Everything Microsoft works great. Spanning apps across both screens. Opening two apps at once, say Bolt and Uber to compare process. So versatile. And cool. As stated, many of the niggles have been ironed out and you soon learn how to get around any little probs that may still crop up. Bendy screens will all break in time. Ye cannae defy the laws of physics Jim! If I have to wait a year or three for a Duo two or three, fine.

Have you tried using office 365 on it? How is that? Just wondering if it could be an on the go device whilst on the move.
  5. 5hooey's avatar
Can you have the keyboard on the bottom screen and your main app (e.g. WhatsApp) on the top?
    toodeep's avatar
Yes. If you choose to span screens, ie drag an app from either of the separate screens to the device middle, then the keyboard & app share both screens. Rotating the Duo 90 degrees from normal then presents as a mini-laptop.

Hoping 2 will drop soon like 1 did. February/March 500 mark like 1 did.

Absolutely no chance mate. There's barely enough stock of the Duo 2 as is. You often see people complaining on reddit about it. Even MS themselves are struggling to fulfil warranty replacements. When the Duo 3 comes out later this year I expect MS will buy back the remaining stock of the Duo 2 to use for warranty claims.

Great price for this if it suits you. Same company who had them for £350 before too. Having used one it does seem to be very clever but feels unfinished in ways, the SoC is dragging on a bit and the camera is near useless by modern standards. It feels more professional than a Galaxy Fold but the Fold is the better all round device hands-down imo, it’s a Samsung, so they get a lot of the basics right and everything just fits together better.

Surface Lifecycle for Android-based devices, looks like 3 years only from release. So this will be EOL September 2023.

The 3 years of support is for Android feature updates. So it will get one more update. Should still get security patches for the foreseeable future though.

Looks like this is stuck on Android 10

Been setting it up and playing around with it tonight. It upgraded itself to Android 12 on start up and I managed to clone my phone to it quite quickly.

Screens and form factor are brilliant and it's a marvellous bit of techy kit. It's simply an awesome device. Stonking Bargain

Bought this from TechnoWorld few months back. TechnoWorld - excellent service, they couldn't have been more helpful in arranging special delivery.

Phone - I don't have much of issues, apart of the screen being useless when watching full screen as it keeps on disabling one of the screens for no reason and the gap between the screens is GIGANTIC. Also, the battery life is rubbish. If you travel frequently, even on short flights, don't expect to make it from A to B on a single charge, more like 2 to 2.5 charges and honestly, who can be bothered to do not much else but constantly look for a plug and carry around charger with all the different adapts. Aside of these issues, very happy with it.

Would not recommend as main, or even secondary phone, but thanks to the folding feature, nippiness and 2 SIM support it wins as a tablet any time of the day.

Picked up these carbon skins from Amazon.

Nice fit and skins have a nice feel. Bonus you get 2 pairs in the pack.

I bought off eBay around £4.50 for three pack, looks the same.

Always wanted one since they first came out
More as a portable tablet/reader/video player to replace a 7" tablet
Price very good so gone for it
Android 12 update seems to have fixed most of the issues previously reported so fingers x will be OK

I had one for a few months, and that was about half a year ago. It's a lovely device, although the camera is very poor. I just couldn't bare it for a primary device, it's painfully slow for certain things, eg taking out of your pocket, unlock, click Gmail and check emails, that would take a second on current phone, but would take an age on Surface. The dual screen games, being able to watch YouTube on one screen and take notes on the other etc were all fantastic, but some aspects of it would make a sane man go crazy.

Android 12 has been more buggy on my Duo than 11 ever was, but nevertheless this is a good deal provided that one doesn't expect the continuation of monthly updates beyond September.
    julianmile's avatar
What does that mean? Sorry for being ignorant, does that mean I won't be able to install software as the system can't update further?
  16. quadnas's avatar
Microsoft has promised Windows 11 ARM. With the upcoming ARM CPUs (like Apples M1) we will see i7 performances and dedicated vgraphics, tensor cores.

The Duo Windows 11 phones will be great
    YourSongIsEnding's avatar
Microsoft are not making windows 11 phones sadly. Only android.
  17. Mister35mm's avatar
Does the SINGLE camera, have a flash or simple light source?
    KodaBear's avatar
Yes there’s a small flash. But don’t expect it to be impressive with anything photography related.
  18. lewc73's avatar
I would love to hear from any owners how easy and effective is the device for editing word documents. Thanks

I just bought one of these to use as a work device and by golly is it strange. When spanning an app there are some simulated pixels in the gap so bits of UI in the middle just aren't shown, but fullscreen spanned YouTube covers more area than my z fold 3. When rotating the device some apps will keep a portrait width which I don't remember happening on the fold. In laptop mode it's much better due to the squarer aspect ratio and lack of camera bump making it stable on a desk, but the window movement controls stay mostly in place when you rotate which doesn't feel natural.

This is day 1, I'm sure it will get better but it's interesting enough that I'll keep it.

Mine is awesome but as a secondary device. And for the price it is worth it. Cheaper than an iPad. Latest android on it, also great for notes and working. I bought it from them for around 340£. Don't regret it at that price. 49226911-joseh.jpg

Insane price for this type of hardware....come on Duo 2 ....let's see that price drop 🤞

Incredible price for what it is. Had a couple for £350 from them, didn’t use much but they are great if you need a tablet type device

showing as £326.34 with delivery for me.

    Just charging and updating now

Got one from Technoworld last October time, quick delivery.
The Duo is by far and away my favourite phone, but does have its querks. I use as my main device
  26. ekko.star's avatar
Ordered today. The foldable tablet form factor is very appealing and it should be good. Looks a really stunning bit of kit as well and runs Android 12L.

Lots of good things said about it now with the latest updates. Looks like Microsoft ironed out all the initial issues through updates. Can't go wrong at this price now, great bit of tech. (edited)

Ordered yesterday afternoon standard delivery. Arrived this morning via dpd. Brand new and sealed. Charging it up as we speak.

Well done HUKD and Technoworld. It's stayed in stock long enough to tempt me to keep clicking back to the deal and finally order one.

I tried one on launch and ultimately gave up on it. But at this price, and with the good things I have heard about Microsoft's continuous updates and improvements I just couldn't help myself.

Useless camera, atrocious battery, no 5G, clunky when used as a phone, will shatter into 1000 pieces if you even look at it; I *love* this device, it's the most joyous handset I've owned since the Mate 20X, with multitasking being an absolute dream. Thanks to the OP, a great deal on a beautifully intuitive piece of engineering.

  32. thibaut_daviaud's avatar
This is normal price for technoworld, bought one few months back on this website, extremely fast delivery and the device is great, a bit slow when you push it but as secondary device, it's perfect. Impressive piece of hardware.
    plewis00's avatar
A few months ago it was £349. This was the former ex VAT price and the lowest it has been from them.
  33. emlin's avatar
I would like to get a bumper case for one of these. Any offers?
    KodaBear's avatar
Don't you get a bumper in the box with it? You certainly did back at launch.
  34. msharif911's avatar
Thanks OP, just bought one to give it a try. Will be nice to have a phone no one else in the Office has for a change.
  35. msharif911's avatar
Does this come with the pen? The unboxing video I'm watching on YouTube does.
    msharif911's avatar
Ignore that, it was the Duo 2 I was watching the YouTube Video for. Not this one.
  36. Patchwork's avatar
Anyone find a decent cheapish case/pouch for this?
    nonameduser's avatar
It comes with bumper case. I bought this in amazon amzn.eu/d/1…jt5
It provides great protection but stops it from folding back on itself which was a deal breaker so I guess just be aware of that when you're looking for a case.

For those that have one, do you need to buy an office 365 subscription to run those apps or is it included? Also, how is the Teams/video call quality?

    Thanks
    ern's avatar
I have not used team so cant comment on that
    No free 365 unfortunately
the free version works great though - I have the office app set to open on both screens then tap on the sheet or word doc on the left screen and it pops open on the right ready for edit
  38. Vids_Upload's avatar
has anyone who's purchased this, had a problem with the screens un-sticking from inside the phone ?
just received mine and the right hand screen side seems to have this problem, un-sticking sound when touching the sreen.
    KodaBear's avatar
No such problem to speak of here.

What I can say is that I remember having this issue with my old iPhone 6 many years ago where you could hear it when you press the screen. Apple confirmed it was fine and there was no defect. Sure enough it worked fine for the 2 and a half years I had it then sold it to CeX where it passed their testing just fine.

If you’re concerned you should reach out to the retailer and see what they say. Maybe they could swap it for you.
  39. lewc73's avatar
Wish I'd never bought this. The day after I received it my work announced that we can't use devices that dont have android 13 so I've never used it. No sign of any 13 update so this has proven to be a complete waste of money. Annoying.

....... which has nothing to do with the phone and everything to do with your workplace. It is still a fantastic device for a large number of users and could have been for the person you should have sold your phone to instead of letting it depreciate in a drawer.
