So how does this compare to the 9 Pro from the other day? I have a 7T currently and can get £80 off the 10T by trading it in

9 pro has much a much better camera system and the all important alert slider.

This has a flat screen, no alert slider and a less versatile camera system.

    Tbh don't think I would go from a p30 pro to a 10T

Just an example I picked out

You've used this service before from what I recall, takes absolutely ages for them to assess the handset, but does work in the end. Well that was my experience anyway

Decent prices, especially with trade-in. No wireless charging, no IP rating and a gimped camera system rule it out for me, but it's good value for the core specs.

Why is the camera system gimped? (Honest question, I want an upgrade from my Poco F1)

OnePlus ... no longer "flagship killer"
    MrSwitch's avatar

When the s23 ultra is £1299, I think this at £419 can still be classed as a flagship killer (price wise anyway)

Do be warned, OnePlus, once well regarded for company supported (root level) customisation, has now fully merged with OPPO. You can unlock your bootloader and flash recoveries and such, but as soon as you want to restore to stock (e.g. if you accidentally brick your phone), you're left with scraps... No working EDL (Qualcomm emergency flash mode) recovery method, no MSM tool, there's no way to restore your phone other than potentially getting help from OnePlus if they decide that your warranty isn't void (it's been over a year since release of the 10 pro and no progress has been made on XDA either, both the 10t and 10 pro have the exact same issue). This is why there's barely any ROM development for the latest OP+ phones.

This is applicable to any OnePlus phone since the 10 series, and is carried from OPPO. The difference is that OPPO makes it difficult to unlock the bootloader in the first place, with these new OnePlus phones there's nothing stopping you from going in, but there's no way out if you brick your device. The only ones who can unbrick the phone are technicians with access to the SERVER AUTHENITCATED software, so if you're out of warranty, you're out of luck. And I doubt there's going to be any workaround for a very long time.

I'm not saying other brands don't do these practices (🍎💀), but I feel that it's worth mentioning, OnePlus isn't the OnePlus it used to be, their phones are no longer flagship killers, they're just OPPOs with a different logo on them.

A bit of a summary/TLDR; Any OnePlus phones released since 2022, and any OPPO phones released since 2016 are sold to you with planned obsolescence in mind (under the guise of ""security"'", as are most developments in repairability these days), if you're interested in flashing ROMs on your phone at some point etc, steer clear of this phone. Oppo have always 'owned' OnePlus right from the start and they've always been made on oppo's production lines, there's just been a shift in approach to hardware/platform sharing and more significantly software sharing. The OnePlus brand has been really taken under the management of oppo rather than a separate business. It was inevitable really, small offshot grows and major investor wants to see more profit.

It's interesting that folk complain about OnePlus these days yet you see many positive noises about oppo devices.

I agree with your sentiments though - they are not the brand they used to be.

The OnePlus 8t with oxygen OS/android 11 was such a mighty device, possibly my favourite phone of all time. (edited)

Many ways to play YouTube with the screen off besides subscribing. Personally do subscribe via VPN so worth the 2£ a month for family plan. Otherwise some browsers allow YT background playback

I've currently got a pixel 5 had it 2 years and really impressed with everything still , except for the battery life and fingerprint scanner can be a bit of a pain , no face recognition. Tempted back to OnePlus but seen a lot of negative comments for newer phones last one I had was a 3T and loved it. Also considering Xioami but they used to have poor cameras. Do I got for Pixel 7 or a OP?
