Please don't buy this. I love Parkside stuff and it is generally good kit, especially for the money, but you'll end up tearing your hair out with the restriction to 8mm bit size.

I bought an equivalent from Aldi years ago and used it only a couple of times. Worked fine, I liked it. But when I came to do some proper grown up jobs with it, no good whatsoever, because all the bits I needed to use were either 1/4 inch or 1/2 inch.

In my case I needed to do a kitchen worktop (common job) and couldn't find even a 1/4 inch big long enough. Plus that could be dangerous, given it will be more 'flimsy'. In the end I bought a new 1/2 inch model from Screwfix (£100, but they do offers from time to time) and sold my Aldi one. Difference is definitely noticeable and the 1/2 inch bits are significantly more meaty and confidence inspiring.

It is possible to get a collet on Amazon for under a fiver that will convert from 8mm to 1/4 inch, so that could be an option for you, but if I were in the market again, I'd just go straight for the 1/2 inch and have all the bit options. (edited)

Something to be mindful of is that commonly router bits seem to be 1/4" rather than 6mm or 8mm.

Edit: I speak as someone who bought one of these years ago and have just bought a 1/4" collet for it for £13 (edited)

Yep, as much as I wish Imperial measurements would go the way of the dodo in the 21st century, being stuck with only being able to use 6mm and 8mm router bits is a major limitation unless you plan to buy them from the continent.
And no, routers run so fast that 6mm and 1/4" (i.e. 6.35mm) are not interchangable.

I'm not a tool snob, I have quite a few Parkside & Aldi tools, just pointing out it's an option. Voted hot OP

I wish they ditched this big ugly thing and made a standard palm router. It's not good enough for heavy jobs like kitchen worktops and too big for little jobs.
