What is the difference between the branded expensive light strips and the cheap Chinese ones please? I have Philips Hue smart bulbs, which are great, and £7 Chinese lighting strips, which are also great! Apart from Alexa voice control, I can't see that there would be much difference for what is a vast difference in price? It's not like the lighting strips will burn my house down, as they are powered by low voltage USB connection, which are unplugged at night anyway. Can anyone enlighten me, please?

I assume they do a better job of reacting to tv/music, but I prefer to have them set on a particular colour anyway? (edited)

I don't think those are able to sync with the video content on the screen, the ones that are able to do that arent half as good as Hue in my imo. if your after the standard light strips though I'd probably not bother with Hue.

Have you considered Govee @aaron1uk ?

Love Govee as a brand but oh my god that little camera on the top of your TV is an absolute dealbreaker - I don't understand how you could have something so obvious in your eyeline. Hue is definitely worth the premium purely for that reason.

The Govee ones from Amazon are terrible, mine only lasted a week and the led strip packed in. Avoid!

Nonsense. I have 3 and they're doing just fine.

Lytmi seems a good alternative with new 2.1 sync box coming out later this year

I saw this myself - promising company (with awful website :D) but they dont yet have the range of products hue do so it's difficult buying into the ecosystem as the prices aren't significantly less. More competition is always good though!!

Been waiting for this. Will add this to my S95B, get the hue app on there and easy peasy, no box and can be used for anything at all. Thanks OP! HEEEEEAT!

No box, but I hear the app is £115, plus it's tied to your TV, so can't be transferred to a new TV when it's time to upgrade

I bought this for £120 back in 2021 but have never used it other than testing as didn't have a large enough TV! Getting my C2 delivered today hopefully so will finally be able to use it! The last thing to add to my Hue setup

Do you know what? After reading all this, I'm happy to stick with my TV as is and my cheap and cheerful Chinese lights, as long as they last! I'm just not feeling it...

I upgraded from regular hue strip to the gradient with the sync box. Night and day difference. The movies are so atmospheric and can easily light the whole ceiling and sidewalls in certain scenes.

Even if you don't get the box, just having multi colour ambient light scenes on at night looks great.

Can you get gradient strips for non-TV? I'd consider changing my kitchen cupboard ones to gradient and selling the GU10 colour bulbs.

If this came with the sync box it might be worth while, but £130 for an LED strip? Absolute joke.

The sync box has been behind the times since release as I remember reading, not supporting latest HDMI protocols etc
