This is just a heads up that PlayStation UK have confirmed on Twitter it will be available to pre-order on-line in the UK from 14 Aug at 10am, at retailers inc Amazon, Game, Smyths Toys, ShopTo.net, Very & Currys.
If you want one you need to get a pre-order in early I think.

Firstly you haven't considered the fact that not everyone will already own the original version of console.
Secondly there is the fact that it's entirely up to the customer whether they want to purchase a newer version or not, no-one is forcing them to upgrade.

I don't think it's too bad, considering. It's a Limited Edition console, +1TB on the standard PlayStation Pro and comes with a matching PlayStation camera in the box. At £150 above the ideal deal price for a standard PlayStation Pro, I don't think it's going to appeal to everybody. It's limited to 50,000 units world wide and matches the RRP of the Xbox One X.
Tepid at best, it'd be a bargain at £399.99

Using your reasoning superior technology should never exist because that should have been the initial release. Horse and cart? Why didn’t they start with the Ferrari?
If you do want to know though the main reason is because technology costs decrease over time. The only mainstream video game console maker to ever sell hardware at a profit at launch is Nintendo and even then only on a few occasions.
When this console generation started offering 4K video would have increased the cost of the product massively and given the tiny market share of displays over 1080p the massively increased cost would have benefited only a tiny number of customers.
Consider how much it would have cost the average customer to buy parts to buy a PC capable of running games at 4K.
Now, 5 years later the cost of components has come down and 4K adoption is much higher. As a result the lower spec models are available at much lower prices than when the console originally came out and the newer hardware can be priced at something that customers will actually pay.
Also consider the fact that years after a product launches the company selling it might learn more about what the consumer wants and update the product accordingly. The 2DS being a great example, a significant number of people didn’t want the 3D feature of the 3DS so Nintendo produced a cheaper model that was limited to 2D which allowed the consumer more choice, pay more for higher spec or pay lower for a lower spec but either way you can still play the same games just like with the various models of the XBox and PS4.- Guys, currys, quick:

Successful people got redirected to GAME (I think?) to make their purchase. I know because I got close one day when the Work internet went stumbled and I lost my place. EVERYONE hasn't purchased an original PS4 and just because there is a newer version doesn't mean that is the right version for every customer, if you own an original PS4 then for most consumers it doesn't make sense to replace it with a PS4 Pro unless you have a 4K TV and really care about getting the best image possible. Again using the example of the 2DS, it is newer than the 3DS but it isn't an upgrade, it's a downgrade because a lot of people weren't interested in the 3D and/or didn't value it enough so Nintendo released a cheaper model. The Wii is enough example, Nintendo released a smaller budget version late in the console's lifespan that did a lot less than the regular version, it wasn't designed to prompt people to upgrade it was aimed at people that hadn't bought a Wii by trying to appeal to them with a very competitive price point and for people that wanted to own multiple consoles but wouldn't buy the normal version because of the price.
Again going by your logic no technology would ever be updated. Is it a scam that you can but a basic model of a car or an alternative version with optional extras? Is it a scam that the standard for TV is moving from 1080p to 4K? Is it a scam that biplanes were replaced with jet engines? These things aren't scams they are progress, they are advancements. Just because you know or think you know that better technology might be available or sufficiently affordable in the future and you plan for that doesn't make it a scam to offer a product and then upgrade that product years later.
Whether you believe me or not, it isn't all some massive conspiracy and you can look everything I've said up if you are willing to take the time to do so. If your beliefs are that strong then what do you have to lose by testing them?mosesxd3 m ago
