    So I guess despite the photo, this is not some kind of monster syringe then?

    These things are mainly for off-road mountain biking?

    I always consider a modest seat high thing being good for road use: normal height for efficiency for longer distance, slightly lower for stop-start traffic.

    Slightly lower to allow easier starting and making it somewhat easier to get of the bike if you find yourself squeezed by cars. But then I far prefer step-through frames for the later reason too.

    They are very handy for all scenarios really - I don’t do any off-road biking just commute and gravel / canal paths - I use it a lot.
