I’ve heard that the deal is happening later on this week but not sure of the exact date. But this is a fantastic deal as it’s an open return so you can get any train back within a month of your outward journey.

If it's a route you do often, you can buy a new return for each direction, leaving you open returns to use each way after the offer ends.

But only for one calendar month from the date of the outbound ticket - so this is still slightly limiting!

    Just get two tickets...

Many years ago when I was at university in England, Carlisle often counted in Scottish offers.

Weirdly tickets to Glasgow on the west coast line are sometimes cheaper than Lockerbie (the first stop used often). (edited)

Instead of spending billions on HS2 the government by using this type of service can allow more people the opportunity to move across country at off-peak times with their families

    HS2 will never reach Scotland.

It's a "look what we've got" rather than service for the majority.

I wouldn't worry about it too much. HS2 is of little use to most places in England too, even those on the route, unless they are regular travellers to the 'centre of the universe'. (edited)

I have no idea as for some reason ScotRail like to keep this a secret. I’ve tried phoning them and they won’t tell me. Should be soon as it’s been ages since the last £17 has been on.

Ticket from Glasgow to Lockerbie and then another from Lockerbie to Carlisle!

Although apparently the deals from Lockerbie to Manchester Airport are pretty good!

Can an "Over 50" club member buy more than 1 ticket for the same journey? ie. Could an over 50 member buy 2 tickets for the one journey? (1 for themselves, and 1 for their partner at the same price?) Thanks!

Strangely the cheapest ticket from Manchester Airport to Glasgow was normally Manchester to Oxenholme then Oxenholme to Glasgow.

But I doubt if adding in an additional £17 would lower that, although its likely 20% off the Lockerbie Glasgow run might make a difference.

No, the ticket goes with the rail card & you can also be asked for proof of age. (edited)

so the £17 deal runs three times a year - any idea of when and how long these periods are please? also, presumably the periods are for all travel, rather than ticket purchase? thanks (I did try the website but it’s not obvious)

Getting these fares at £17, is like finding hens teeth. Website is not clear, £17 return, but no mention how to get these fares !!!!!!! False advertising, shocking

They send you the link once you sign up & it applies to about 99% of tickets mentioned over £17 while the offer runs.

It doesn't show the £17 price if using the ScotRail app, but does show the normal discount.

It's about 6 weeks to 2 months it runs each time.

Mine lapsed during covid, but I'll sign up again & take you through the process once I find my credit card.

Most of the cheap tickets use a single operator end to end.
