I picked up the xperia 1 IV from giffgaff in 'fair' (or maybe it was 'good') condition. It turned up as if it had never been used. Not so much as a speck of dust on it. It's currently out of stock but it could pop back up again.

I've been super happy with it. It's a bit tall coming from an xz1 compact but because it's narrow, it's actually very easy to handle.
Some complain of overheating but either my unit is a unicorn or they fixed it with firmware updates because I've yet to see any kind of overheat warning or slowdown.

Here are some things I like about this device:
The 4K OLED 120Hz screen is totally ridiculous. In a really good way. Yes, it's overkill, but it's only 4K for 4K content and not on menus etc so the battery doesn't suffer too much for it. 4K HDR content looks crazy sharp and crispy. Coupled with the front firing stereo speakers, this is a top notch (without a top notch!) media device.

    No notch.

I've never not had a headphone jack and SD slot and both are still present here.

Seemless performance. Not noticed any slowdown outside of battery saving mode.

Camera system is really nice and if you like using DSLRs, everything will be familar and intuitive, especially if you use a Sony Alpha camera. Expect natural photos with minimal processing. No crazy AI oversharpening here.

Near stock android with some thoughtful additions like Game Enhancer that enables various performance tweaks and can power the phone directly from the USB port so your battery isn't being charged all the time if not needed. This preserves the battery and generates much less heat.

The 1 V is undoubtedly the better device with the new stacked sensor and gen2 chip but it's also well over double the price at the minute.

If you want a flagship Sony experience at a middling price, this is probably the way.

New at John Lewis at £199 with 2 year warranty

This has a 1 year warranty so don’t think it’s worth paying £84 for an extra years warranty on a £115 phone!

    That seems very cheap!

2 year old phone in used condition. Good value for what you get but it is a lower mid range phone.

Which? phone support calculator also states the estimated security update expiry was July 2023. So typical Sony on your own after 2 years. So it's likely already not getting anymore security updates.

That's not crapping on this deal, it is still a usable phone and the price reflects what I describe above. (edited)

So phone arrived today and its a little banger for the cost.
Gambled on the fair £114 delivered via DHL and it came with 4 light cosmetic scratches to the screen of a few millimetres. The kind you have to hold up to the light and wiggle around before you can find them. The rear looks perfect so probably had a case but no screen protector in the past. Using my Steam deck charger it charged from flat to 53% in 15 minutes. Phone is snappy and very responsive, screen is OLED and looks great, camera is decent, usual Sony offering with manual adjustments needed in challenging conditions. Audio via the head phone port is awesome basically combined with an SD card and small size this makes a great smart music player for the gym or out and about.
    Pros.
Small size, OLED, 6GB Ram, 128GB mem. SD Card up to 1TB, Headphone socket and 5G.
    Cons.
    None at £114..
If I had paid the Original RRP £350 then maybe I would feel a bit underwhelmed but for £114 its a steal.

Hey I recently broke my Xiaomi mi 10 which I loved (I'm just apparently an idiot when I'm drunk)
Loved the camera and never really experienced many issues.

In the market for a new phone. Looking around £350 at most, was going to wait for amazon deals just see if anything was a bargain, anything in particular you'd suggest keeping an eye on?

Camera and battery probably the main things. And access to banking apps.

I think Xiaomi 12t pro is top of my list ATM if the price drops down.

Sorry to hijack thread and ask. (edited)

Why not buy a 2nd hand Mi10 or maybe the following years model (or similar) if that is a decent upgrade.

How much life is left in the battery? maybe not even a year. Not voting either way

Fine. It's a phone. Not a good phone imo and why the price stooped so low!
