There's a newer book by the same author Dr Steve Peters > A Path through the Jungle (A Psychological Health and Wellbeing Programme to Develop Robustness and Resilience).

Whichever you read I'd recommend combining it with Finding Peace in a Frantic World by Prof Mark Williams (Bangor University) which is an 8 week Mindfulness course. Also The Mind Illuminated by John Yates PhD.

Some free mindfulness apps that aren't BS >

    UCLA Mindful
    Insight Timer

Also the NHS have trialled a headset (see link below) that seems promising for treating Depression and Anxiety and was mentioned on the BBC R5 Live today. Anxiety medications are generally very poor even in 2023. Anxiety is a struggle to treat because it is an intrinsic survival mechanism, as stated current drug treatments are very poor for treating anxiety. So if you can get on with the books and apps above it all helps.

I should probably disclaim this as in I only heard about it on the Radio today, it has been trialled by the NHS, after reading more about it I remain skeptical, as I said Anxiety isn't something that can be cured. Anxiety disorders can be treated, normal Anxiety is fine and most humans suffer from Anxiety that is normal. When it becomes a disorder then it requires treatment, although as stated, current drug treatments for anxiety are generally very poor. (edited)

This was the first "self help" kind of book I read. I enjoyed it.
Definitely read any books by Eckhart Tolle.. His first 'The Power of Now' had a huge impact on me...

I've never had a google play ebook before, but top tip, you can download a sample and it's a 38 page sample which isn't too shabby.
